  2. As some of you know, I have personally met several of the scroll saw family members. As a result, I have some new friends that I contact whenever I have the opportunity to do so. I have been able to go to Paul's (scrappile) house several times and we have become great friends and talk often on the phone. The first person I met from here was Travis, our chief cook and bottle washer. You know, the person that does all the hard work to keep us up and running smoothly. We had lunch together, a couple of years ago. And Ralph who lives in Aloha, Oregon. We too have met and chatted a couple of times. Anyway yesterday I had the opportunity to drive 45 minutes and meet yet another rather new and very talented member. He is not only very talented but he was very enjoyable to talk with. His name is Bill and he goes by 'cashew', here. Usually after I have visited with one of our members, people ask, "where are the photos ?". So this time I took a photo of both of us to show you. I am the ugly one on the left side in the photo. If you have never met any of the members here, I would suggest that you take the time to do so. An hour drive is worth your time. Dick heppnerguy

    Razorback ornament

I designed this Razorback ornament the other day. My first attempt at drawing my own design. I need to make a few modifications, but I think it turned out good for the first one.

  7. So yesterday I had a repeat customer ask about making a 1965 Corvette ( her dad is a car collector and I've made them about 8 - 10 clocks they tell me each one get's more detail ) and asked me if I would be able to do the side pipes and the wheels, LOL.. Just so happen that I recently ordered the "Stingray " puzzle from Scott not long ago.. that has side pipes and the wheel style they was looking for.. I asked about having the word cut out and showed the pattern to them.. They liked the idea but I said I would cut both ways and see what way they like it.. I intended to show her both today but the first cut I messed up the cutting in the back wheel and it fell apart, LOL.. I gotta say.. the puzzle version is much easier to cut because to make this a clock I had to shrink the size of the car down by about 35% which makes all the cutting smaller and the distance between some bridges etc. much smaller too.. Hoping since I showed them just the one maybe they'll just want it and i won't need to make the other, LOL... actually now that I've cut it once or twice I know tricks and what to watch out for so it won't be as bad next time.. I didn't show the side view of their car as they was in it for those photos... but this view shows the side pipes and wheels.. I'll show the finished piece once it's done.. Might be a few more days as I've got a Nova order and a Plymouth GTX order to do.. that just came in..

  8. There are a few of us in TN. There is a scroller, I don't know if a member, from Elizabethton, TN. He may stop by on Saturday for a visit. Through the years many scrollers stopped by ArtCrafters.

    Willie Revisited

I have scrolled a lot of Charles Dearing patterns recently. Charles writes that he gets requests to simplify his patterns. I like his more detailed works. He has a simplified Willie Nelson pattern that, though I liked, I found it too simple. So, after I finished it, I randomly drilled a bunch more holes Willy-Nilly, and just free formed my way to a bit fuller finished product. As I often do, I reduced the size down to 9 1/2”x 6 1/2.” I’m pretty happy with how it turn out.

  12. My daughter was here in Arizona for a couple of weeks with her new husband, helping my younger son to ready and move into his new house. While they were here, my daughter told me her husband's birthday is next month and since we will be going up to Oregon for a couple of months, she wondered if I could make a plaque of Chris's Jeep, as it is something he really enjoys. She sent me a photo of his jeep so I made a pattern from it and cut this plaque for her to give to her husband on his birthday. She saw it before she left for home a couple of days ago and said that she really liked it. I was about 1/3 finished cutting it at that time. Here is the results. Dick heppnerguy

    Adhesives

I've got adhesives by the number Adhesives by the score Every time I turn around I swear I find some more! Actually this is a two part question, adhesives and frame clamps. I make most of my frames from cedar fence stakes. They are very rough, often cupped, uneven thickness, etc. I like the looks of the frames because they are rustic. In spite of of problems with the materials I try to make the frames as accurately as possible. I have old Craftsman corner clamps, Pony strap clamps as well as H/F strap clamps. Of the three I like the H/F straps the best. My dilemma is the adhesive. It take a fair bit of time to get the straps positioned accurately. The adhesive needs to remain open until the straps or clamps can be tightened. There has been discussion on clamps previously but not on adhesives that I know of. Need some advice on adhesives. Currently I glue the best I can then pop some staples in the corners from the back. I also have thin, medium and gap filling ca, tube of Loctite cement, JB Weld and more. What to use?

    Used blades

I have a old pop corn tin that I throw mine in. I use them to help cleat out holes and veining. Every time I look at how full the can is getting I think about how much time I have spent in the garage and how much money I have made. I enjoy my garage time and the money I have made . Mimi

I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in here. Someone suggested 30 minute epoxy and for the project you described I think that is a solid suggestion. Wood glue works best when the faces meet well. If your stock is 'off' and gaps are created IMHO epoxy will fill gaps and hold better that poly glues. And the nice thing is they can be tinted to match your stock. Then the clamping. I like band clamps and use one but for difficult work I use this crazy system. I've made these little corner jigs. The bottom (the part that comes in contact with your frame) has 100g sand paper attached with DST. Prevents slippage in clamping. Just look at the pic. The jigs are clamped to the frame members first and then a F style clamp pulls the corner together. This lets you focus on each joint individually. I usually just clamp half the project, let the glue set up and then do the other corners.

  48. It's a beautiful spring day in WA! My first stab at Intarsia -- a box with a rose on the lid. I saw one by Robert Ardizzoni and thought it would be a nice mother's day present for my wife. It's made from walnut and maple. She has a bit of trouble getting the lid to sit properly, as it is hardly symmetrical!

  50. The items that immediately come to mind are the two Spring themed Welcome Plaques that we hand on our front door (only one at a time ). The first one is a Sheila Landry design: The second is my design but incorporates bird patterns that I purchased from Sheila: Right now, the second plaque is on our door to welcome visitors (I'm sorry to say, from a distance of 2 metres).
