    Purple Box

I made this box for a friend who has had a ruff time, things are looking better for her. I used Popular. The top and bottom has natural danish pit and the center I used purple trans tint. The inside has a soft cushion covered with fabric to match. The picture makes it look more blue, but it really is a deep purple.

  6. As some of you know, I have personally met several of the scroll saw family members. As a result, I have some new friends that I contact whenever I have the opportunity to do so. I have been able to go to Paul's (scrappile) house several times and we have become great friends and talk often on the phone. The first person I met from here was Travis, our chief cook and bottle washer. You know, the person that does all the hard work to keep us up and running smoothly. We had lunch together, a couple of years ago. And Ralph who lives in Aloha, Oregon. We too have met and chatted a couple of times. Anyway yesterday I had the opportunity to drive 45 minutes and meet yet another rather new and very talented member. He is not only very talented but he was very enjoyable to talk with. His name is Bill and he goes by 'cashew', here. Usually after I have visited with one of our members, people ask, "where are the photos ?". So this time I took a photo of both of us to show you. I am the ugly one on the left side in the photo. If you have never met any of the members here, I would suggest that you take the time to do so. An hour drive is worth your time. Dick heppnerguy

Hello friends, a little work of my favorite hero. I hope you like it, in advance thanks for your comments. Be very careful during the corona virus-19 pandemic, ok?

  10. While I don't have any project to show for, I do have a recipe to share. The link https://www.charbroil.com/learn/how-to-smoke-ribs-in-an-electric-smoker. The instructions say electric smoker, but I can tell you from first hand experience that following the temps in a charcoal grill will get the same results. Only thing is prior to wrapping the ribs, put some olive oil and honey on them, then wrap. Just thought I would share because who doesn't like grilling?

    super cut bandsaw blades

does anyone on here use supercut bandsaw blades? i bought the premium gold carbide blade for my 14 inch delta. 1/2 wide 3 hook. it cuts thru cherry like butter. my question is how long will it last? not that expensive either on amazon. it was like $30 with prime.this is not a true carbide tooth blade,it is carbide impregnated. my guess is the teeth have some carbide in them.i had posted about wanting a new bandsaw for resawing wood for scrolling. looked at all the stuff i cut and make and none is over 6 inches tall.i came to the conclusion i dont need a bigger saw.would like one, but i dont need one. plus anything really big i cut out of baltic birch plywood. doug

    Just another TOL

About 8" in diameter, finished with a light coat of Watco Danish Oil. 1/2" BB #3 Pegas MG. Pattern was just an image from Internet that I grabbed from some site and sized to fit.

  15. Like you I have tried many different spiral blades in all the sizes. Threw out or gave most away. When I do use them they are mostly 2/0 or #1 FD New Spirals.

    Seahorse

Pretty piece but what inquiring minds want to know is how long it took you to clean up your saw so that it looks like it just came out of the box.

  17. I am not a big spiral fan though I do use them when I need to. I know I will take some heat for this but in my opinion they tear more then they cut and because of that they are tough on fragile areas. Also in my opinion cutting a single piece of 1/4" plywood is a recipe for trouble. Add a piece of 1/8" or another piece 1/4" plywood as a backer to reduce tear out. Using flat blades like a Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse I would use a #1 or 2/0. Pegas MG will also work in the same sizes but since they are more aggressive you have to be more careful and reduce speed. Good Luck and keep us posted.

  35. Well Ray, where in our great state are you looking? TN covers a lot of territory from East to West in particular. Just like any where, you have people of all thoughts and beliefs and the entire state and it’s populous is not RED. (just don’t want you to be mislead .) We do get a lot of retirees from other states since we do not have an income tax per se (there is a “Hall tax” which is on investments so some do pay some taxes on income from that. Sales tax is high - almost 10% and paid on almost anything including groceries. Some exceptions. Property taxes are relatively low, and not much taxes on annual car tags though some pay a little wheel tax on top of car registrations in some areas. All that is reliant on the county and/or city you live in. We get a lot of Northerners (And some from out west) who retiree further south, find it too hot or miss the “seasons” and move “half way” back. While I love my state, just like any where, it’s not perfect. When are you thinking about making the move? I recall not that long ago you said you would like to move from CA but your wife wouldn’t.

  38. How true, Marg. I was so disappointed to not have that honor. Things just didn't allow it to, but you are always welcome to come back to the States and this time, maybe Arizona would have something that might interest you enough to spend a little time here Dick heppnerguy

    Captain is a Slob

I can't believe anyone sitting to have their pattern made would not take the time to do something with their hair! 1/4" BB, #2 Pike jewelers blade. Still needs a 50/50 BLO bath, a backer and a frame. Dimitri posted this picture a while back but am not sure if he is the designer.

  42. I have been trying to spend more time with my wife and less in my shop. She does not complain of my time there but we are getting up there in age and I know we do not have a lot of time left to be together, so I do not want to spend too much time away from her and then have to regret that I put my hobby time in front of our time together. . That said, The Jones plaque is for my older son as part of his upcoming birthday. The letter plaque is an added present to my great granddaughter who is having an birthday this week and I thought she might like this little tuck in. It is a Steve Good pattern. The Baby star plaque is for our third new great grandbaby born within this calendar year. This one is a Sue Mey pattern and I have another new great grandson who will be born this month also and I am just waiting for the date to get that one finished. Dick heppnerguy

    Final Exam

SSV nation, I joined in January and one of the first things I saw was a skull pattern. It reminded me of a good friend whom I have known for 20 years. I made a promise to myself that once I cut this skull, I have achieved my goal and I can cut just about anything. Below is the photo with 1/4 maple plywood and thin backing. The lesson learned here is to only have friends that like unicorns and not skull.

  44. The pattern is by Diana Thompson, but I modified it by inlaying a horse. I follower Jim Finn's recommendation to use 3/8" stock for the inlay. My wife suggested the white horse inlayed into the Walnut. All other woods are scraps. It was cut on the EX21 using FD Polar #3 and #9 blades. Yes, I still have some FD blades at home. The finish is three coats of Minwax spray Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

    My First Mini Bird House

OK I finally took a couple of photos. I have no idea what any of the woods are except one is Camphor Laurel. I am really enjoying making these, I don't know what I was frightened of. I am using Flying Dutchman Polar blades #3 and #5 but one was so dense that I used 2 #5's so I had to get some #7's, they go through the wood like it's butter. (Thanks Dan) Marg My First. 3 New ones

  46. Might just be me, but I would be far more interested in the clock being cut out on the scroll saw than the base. I couldn't care less about the base; it's only a means to an end to display the real handcrafted work, which would be the clock section. I think you've found a way to speed up production while keeping your focus on the real handcrafted draw to your pieces: the clock. Goodonya!

  49. A bit late, but this is a project I have been working on over the weekends during this time. This is the first project I have completed in over 30 years. I learned that I need to work on patience, scrolling requires much patience and I am glad I picked this back up again. I learned can not feed the wood quickly or "force feed" the saw to get done faster. I should have known better than cut the outside first! This was my first try at epoxy resin, I like the idea and may try this in some other projects that I am planning, like drink coasters. Comments and suggestions are definitely welcome. Tom
