Don from Brooklyn in Ontario provided me with this pattern. What I love about his patterns is the thin red outline with a light green fill. Makes cutting a real pleasure. The plaque is 14" X 5" X 1/2" oak. #1 PMG with 50/50 BLO. I nearly screwed up the edges on the router. My router is just a 1/4" trim router on a very makeshift table. The vertical adjustment is very crude and it was set too deep causing the router to bog down. I should have made a couple of shallow cuts then a finish cut. Worked out eventually. Still needs a backer and a couple of coats of poly semi gloss to finish.2 points -
I think this is a shoulder bolt and inside the arm will be a pressed in brass bearing / bushing.. If there is slop.. it's probably most likely the brass bushing since it is softer than the shoulder bolt.. Though for some reason I tend to change both even though likely no wear or very little on the bolt itself.. If you have a dial caliper you could measure the wear.. I believe the new arm will come with a new bushing pressed in.. I'm not 100% sure on all of this as i have no experience with the Hegner type saws.. but looking at them over the years I've come to the conclusion that this is the case.. maybe not on all of their saws? I don't know..2 points

Tiffany was booked, so.... Put this pattern together the other day, after watching the Clint Eastwood movie on TV (yet again). This is one of the best lines in a movie full of memorable quotes ("Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy." "You gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?") and one of the iconic poses from the movie posters. Dang thing is huge, there were parts where the distance between blade and corner of piece exceeded the 16" throat of my saw. Makes for some interesting cutting, having to run off into the waste areas and come back from the other direction. 3/8" ply, #1 Pegas MG blades (two of em), stack cut two at once. Next up, trimming the backers to size and seeing if Lowes has enough lumber to build a frame. Once I figure out a way to stain these (I'm thinking about "building" a container out of aluminum foil), these will be a dark color, probably Minwax Provincial or Honey, and the backer will be as light as I can get it. Probably do the frame dark, too. Pattern is linked here:1 point -

It may just be so you can use it as a blower also. But it might quiet it too. Win/win.1 point

Well it would appear that the 'bushings' on the upper arm of my saw need replacing. So off I went to order new. However, they have none in stock and not likely to have in the near future. However, they had a new 'upper arm' in stock so I bought that It cost me £56 !! Now off to tell Tony I will explain that it's cheaper than a new saw that would cost £700+ ---- If I've not posted by this time next week get them to dig up the garden as I'm likely to be under the lawn.1 point

If I remember correctly you have basically a Hegner with a different name? I believe they have a brass bushing / bearing.. In my mind a bearing has rollers ( ie balls or needle rollers in them ) I know they are considered bearings but I call them bushings LOL.. Anyway that said.. those brass bushings can give fits trying to press them in...especially without proper tools.. so you might be ahead by buying the arm anyway.. Before I got the proper tools to press those bushings in.. I broke a few of those brass bushings trying to press them in years ago while rebuilding a front end on a lawn tractor.. The bushing it soft brass and if you can't press it in evenly and easily they break or deform quite easily.. also depends on the thickness of the bushing wall I'm sure.. the ones I was working with were real thin walled.. maybe 1/16 wall thickness if that..1 point

He may grumble some, but in the end it'll be alright Sometimes you can get the number off the bearing and go to a bearing house to match it, something to keep in mind if there is a next time1 point

Ray, living in NY, I am curious what the average taxes are where you live now in CA and where you plan to go in TN. We have some friends that just had a house built near Asheville NC. Your idea of investigating different areas in your motor home is brilliant! most people go somewhere on vacation for a week or two, fall in love buy house ,move , and then find it is not as great as they thought it was. Good luck in your search. I did live in Merced CA for a few years. I live in an incorporated village so it has its own taxes. My wife and I love being near the water (3/4 mile from the bay and 2 miles by boat to the Ocean) I rented down the street from my current home for 16 years. always wanted the house that we now own. I swore I would never go back to Long Island after 11 years in the AF, I will be here for the duration, everywhere that I lived around the country had some thing special to offer, but this is home. Our combined county and village taxes are less than 1K a month. We could not rent an apartment for that. Just as an eye opener A magnificent house on the bay just south of us has county taxes of 56K a year plus village tax which ads at least another 2K.1 point

Very impressive. Lovely finish too. Terry is just starting to learn how to make bandsaw boxes, but just using pine until he feels more confident. Marg1 point

Impressed how tight the drawer is after all the sanding you had to do. Your pieces probably matched up better than mine do. Nice job!1 point -

I must say that there are two or three close to me here is South Carolina, but all are inactive. I have found one where I work, but she is just starting. In fact, She has a saw she got from Harbor Freight (I know, first problem) that isnt cutting right. I am going to take it home and see if I can align it up. I dont want her to lose interest just because of a bad saw. I may be asking for some advice in the future.1 point

BBQ Scroll Saw Challenge
Lucky2 reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Well, I'd rather *eat* BBQ than scroll it, but every good BBQ needs a couple of things: dragon coasters, paper towels, a table, and a hammock to relax in during/afterwards. And for me....well...there's always books if I'm not scrollin'. Flynn seems to make it into a lot of photos. He's Dane/Bloodhound mix. As for grub...well, I'm a burger-n-brats kind of guy, leaning more towards the brats side of the grill. Found an amazing recipe for bacon-wrapped brats....basically, you cook the brats, then slice em open like a hot dog bun (keep the ends closed), jam them full of spicy mustard and shredded cheddar cheese, then use the universal kitchen duct tape (ie, bacon) to wrap them and keep them closed. Throw back in the oven for an amount of temp and time I couldn't begin to tell you off the top of my head (I've burned cold cereal, so I'm generally only allowed in the kitchen during cleanup). Pure frikkin bliss. (recipes vary, but this'll give you an idea) https://www.stockpilingmoms.com/bacon-wrapped-cheese-stuffed-brats/1 point -
We bought a motor home to use in our search. We will go back there in it and spend a couple of months looking at areas. Once we determine where we want to live, we will come back here and sell our home. Once it is sold, we will pack, ship and store everything back there. Then we go back for good in the motor home and find/buy a home. We can live in the motor home until everything is done. Once we buy a place, we'll immediately start saving about $15k a year because we won't be paying rent. We can buy back there for less than what our mobile home is worth. And property taxes are about the same outside city limits. I've done some homework but still have some to do. Thanks for your wishes.1 point

Well count me in on the MetroVac owner now.. I've been watching these on eBay ever since Ray bought his.. I almost took the plunge when Ray first posted the link to the one he got.. but I waited to see what he thought of it.. well the price kept inching upwards.. and got up to $90.. sorry I'm not paying that then having to fiddle around with making a setup to work.. when I could just buy one from Ray all ready to go with all that I'd need for it.. Anyway I found one this morning new in the box for $35 so I snagged it up... My question is.. I see two different looking ones.. one looks like it has a cone on the end of it.. and I'm wondering if this is some sort of muffler.. kinda like Ray made for his.. I'll post images of both so you can see where one is flat at the end and the other has a cone shaped end to it.. suppose that's a muffler.. Seyco shows the one used is a cone shape.. and claims it to be 67db sound level.. Just wondering if the reason some mentioned them being a little louder than expected maybe it's this cone shape??0 points
