Well, it arrived today and I couldn't be more pleased. It runs as smooth as silk. I've cleaned the table and waxed it and dusted it off. Tony says I've been such a giddy kipper all morning that he'll be glad when I go in my shop and give him some peace . Excuse the background noise, Tony was tinkering 20200625_172033[1].mp48 points

Word-within-word pattern. Instead of cutting it with straight edges, I thought I'd try something a bit different. I think I like it this way over straight edges. 1"x8" whiteboard, stained Minwax Honey. Used Pegas #3MG blades. There are some fragile bridges in some of the inner letters, but I found that, since they are pretty much cut out in one section anyway, the rest of the scrap gave the bridges enough strength that they weren't any problem. I left the scrap in place when sanding the few burrs off the back of the piece, for the same reason.3 points -
He fixed the old one yesterday Ray, he filed and tinkered until everything was flush and it works like a good one. He said if I'd just had the patience to wait, I could have saved myself a fortune. However, too late for me to send my new one back. He'd have to prise it out of my hands with a crowbar, now I've got it I'm not letting it go. I told him It's worth every penny just to make me smile3 points

I met another Scoll saw Village member
danny and one other reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
As some of you know, I have personally met several of the scroll saw family members. As a result, I have some new friends that I contact whenever I have the opportunity to do so. I have been able to go to Paul's (scrappile) house several times and we have become great friends and talk often on the phone. The first person I met from here was Travis, our chief cook and bottle washer. You know, the person that does all the hard work to keep us up and running smoothly. We had lunch together, a couple of years ago. And Ralph who lives in Aloha, Oregon. We too have met and chatted a couple of times. Anyway yesterday I had the opportunity to drive 45 minutes and meet yet another rather new and very talented member. He is not only very talented but he was very enjoyable to talk with. His name is Bill and he goes by 'cashew', here. Usually after I have visited with one of our members, people ask, "where are the photos ?". So this time I took a photo of both of us to show you. I am the ugly one on the left side in the photo. If you have never met any of the members here, I would suggest that you take the time to do so. An hour drive is worth your time. G'day Rolf, When I started my apprenticeship we still used animal glue. Had it in an electric pot which we used to fill with pellets of glue. I don't know if it was any better than PVA, but it wasn't any worse just a lot more mucking about. The beauty with it was, that if a piece needed repairs, and I mean an OLD piece you could heat the joint and pop it apart.2 points

I've been using Dewalts type 1 for close to 15 years and wanted to upgrade to a smoother saw with a larger table. I debated the Pegas or the Excelsior ex-30 but after discussing this with Ray from Seyco, he convinced me to wait for a Seyco. I have to say that this is a solid saw and the table is enormous. I know I will enjoie this saw for years to come. I'm not getting rid of my Dewalts as I do demos quite often and it is the perfect size to transport for demos. Christian1 point

No the saw looks fine as you said it's out of the way. Been a few years since I have been behind my saw so Im looking forward to getting on it this weekend1 point

In the UK the stop button is mandatory for 'Health + Safety' although I think a lot of people bypass it for a footswitch. It's all I've ever known so it doesn't bother me. I have been told that the Axminster Trade Series saws are very much Hegner clones.1 point

Great looking saw, looks similar to my Hegner clone except mine doesn't have that big emergency stop button1 point

Museum quality work! I'm about like Fish in that, I would love to make some of these but, No room in my home for one, no-one in this small, rural area that would pay what it is worth (even the cost of supplies),and I would hate to do that much work and spend that much time without a very deserving place to donate it. Even if they were very deserving, it would be hard to just give it away! Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse1 point -
That's awesome Brenda. I hope you got a good one and your troubles are over. Now just get that old one resurrected and you'll wonder whant to cut next. I know having two great saws, the biggest problem is figuring out which saw to use. That's not a bad problem to have. Best of luck with your new toy.1 point

I know he is back to trucking again. Not that he wanted to but it became a necessity. He's had a tough run of luck over the last few years. I hope God shines on him and his wife at some point and they get a break. I go back and forth with him on Messenger almost daily.1 point

If folks want I can start a different thread about this. I know the talk of lasers was deadly not so long ago. But here is the thing, some of us bought expensive custom irons or wood burning sets to brand our logo or name on things we sell. The irons are consistent but custom engraving with a wood burner takes some real skill. Iggy is doing some beautiful work and personalizing it. With a laser engraver you can use any font and scale that you want. All of the information bellow is things that I have found in my digging. I should have done this before buying the laser that I have. I am no expert by any means, but I did use an industrial laser for many years to precisely cut Silicone wafers into custom shapes. First all of these smaller laser power ratings are misleading. the 3.5 , 7, 20 watt are in reality the power consumed by the entire unit, NOT the power of the laser. The actual power of a 7w (7000mw) laser is only 2.5watts. the 20w laser is only 5.5w. Most of these NEJE lasers with their controller and software only turn the laser on and off, If you want o burn gray scale images you want a laser with Puls width modulation. In english that means it has to capability to vary the laser intensity as it goes along. LaserGrbl is a control software http://lasergrbl.com/ that will do this as long as the laser is compatible. As far as cutting goes, these lasers have a very narrow focal point so these small lasers even the 5.5W (advertised as 20) will only cut "The 5.6 watt laser easily cuts plywood and acrylic 3-5 mm (0,1-0,2″) thick, and it even cuts plywood 8 mm (1/3″) thick with many passes (requires Z axes for that)." The "z" axis will move the laser up and down to maintain the focus. The cheaper laser have to be focused manually. If you want to primarily cut you will need a more powerful laser, that will require, water cooling etc.1 point

The way I see it Les, once we pass 75, we are all in the same group. Thanks for the well wishes and we will be stopping in Colo. Springs on our way East to visit our son & family sometime right after Labor Day. We will spend 2-3 months this trip in our search of Tennessee. I will wave each time we pass by.1 point

I phoned Paul a couple of weeks ago and he is fine and healthy. He has taken some time off from scrolling to get his property all in shape from the winter. I will be going to his house in 2 or 3 weeks for another visit with him. I told him he was missed here in The Village. No need to worry about him. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

Welcome to our family from Southern Arizona. Hope to see you around often in The Village. You probably have noticed by now that we have other people here from the UK and in fact pretty much all over the world. We are all friendly and helpful so you just might wish to share some of your 20 years of scroll saw knowledge with us as well. Be sure and check out our library as there are many patterns posted there by our members. You are free to download and make any that might catch your interest. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

That's the plan. We want to move to Tennesse for many reasons. One, many friends have already moved there. Far cheaper to live, the opportunity to have an actual house again. And, it's a RED state. More our style of thinking. I might even have a big shop. My dream is a home with a walkout basement with living quarters upstairs.1 point

It would be nice to know another scroller to share a hobby with. Overall, there does not seem to be many scrollers as opposed to other hobbies. While I was a model railroader for more than 40 years I met literally hundreds of fellow modelers.1 point
