  1. I've been using Dewalts type 1 for close to 15 years and wanted to upgrade to a smoother saw with a larger table. I debated the Pegas or the Excelsior ex-30 but after discussing this with Ray from Seyco, he convinced me to wait for a Seyco. I have to say that this is a solid saw and the table is enormous. I know I will enjoie this saw for years to come. I'm not getting rid of my Dewalts as I do demos quite often and it is the perfect size to transport for demos. Christian

    My Finished Box

Well, finally finished !! I'll give it a quick buff up on the day it leaves home. A Birthday present for my 'best' friend of 30yrs (a cat lady)I just hope she likes it. Don't know if it belongs here on this forum but the 'white wood' bits were done on my scrollsaw

  3. Since I'm new to the forum I figured I'd post a few pictures of projects I've done. Of course I can't find photos of the majority since I usually just gave them away. The picture with the "I love my saw" was my first and second project I ever did. I only scrolled the doberman on the dog bowl holder, but the project still turned out great so I figured I'd share. I also made the cake topper for my wedding out of purpleheart. You'll have to excuse the gross glue residue on the wood, this was taken right after I peeled it all off...of course I can't find the picture of it on the actual cake...

  4. Well, I know I haven't posted many projects lately. Sometimes I hate the work to get it done to share! Plus, while I have done a few things - I haven't done a lot for various reasons. I did recently really like the curved lid box that Steve Good shared on his blog a few days ago. You can find it on his site here: http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2020/06/curved-lid-box.html; On his pattern, he used a lotus flower I believe, but I decided to use the butterfly in honor of my mother's love for them since this week would have been her 82nd birthday. We unfortunately lost her 4 years ago to Alzheimer's. I wanted a simple butterfly design so did a google search for a simple butterfly silhouette image. The box body is cherry, top of lid is maple, and inside of butterfly is purple heart. I have not completely finished the box. I had just finished sanding it and wiping it down with MS and thought I better go get a picture! So, while I was going to take the picture of my box, I figured I would take a picture of the hot air ballon puzzles that I did a while back as well. The hot air ballon puzzles were designed by Sarah Lyn Chamberlain. The Orange and white one was published in the Summer, 2020, Issue 79 of Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Magazine. It is the one with the tree frog Intarsia on the front cover found here: https://www.foxchapelpublishing.com/scroll-saw-woodworking-crafts-issue-79-summer-2020.html - Besides the pattern they put in the magazine, - they provided the second puzzle as a free download from their website which can be found here: https://1.shortstack.com/0tCJnG - They were cut from poplar wood and then painted full strength with Unicorn Spit paints. I thought they needed some bright colors as most hot air balloons do. The orange and white was in honor of my beloved hometown TN Vols and my daughter, who was here quarantine at the time, picked the colors for the other one. Just wanted you all to know that I am still scrolling some.

  19. Simply amazing! I watched my Dad make a band saw box once similar to this and I always wondered if it could be done using a scroll saw (since I don't have a band saw!). Great job!

  31. Don from Brooklyn in Ontario provided me with this pattern. What I love about his patterns is the thin red outline with a light green fill. Makes cutting a real pleasure. The plaque is 14" X 5" X 1/2" oak. #1 PMG with 50/50 BLO. I nearly screwed up the edges on the router. My router is just a 1/4" trim router on a very makeshift table. The vertical adjustment is very crude and it was set too deep causing the router to bog down. I should have made a couple of shallow cuts then a finish cut. Worked out eventually. Still needs a backer and a couple of coats of poly semi gloss to finish.

  35. Oh i will indeed let him know how people are wondering how he is doing. Paul and I have become really good friends and I am so glad my wife and I called them and met them for lunch when we did. Paul and I chat a lot on the phone and I always try to go see him when we are in Oregon, which is at least a couple of times a year. This is the very reason I always try to suggest that others take the time to go meet different members who might be only a couple of hours of driving time to do so. You never know when you might just meet a person as wonderful as my friend Paul Dick heppnerguy

    One of my clocks

Very nice piece of work, Ive done a few of them, the cathedral clock I cant remember where I got the pattern from, it comes in hard copy and I got it sent from the states. first thing I did was dissect it and scanned it on to the computer, so I have endless plans of it. Over the years I have collected dozens of clock plans, some simple that I really dont do, others quite a bit of time and cutting involved, which I prefer

  39. Hi Ron Thanks for the posts of all the pictures. I love this forum as it give me inspiration. I forgot that I even had this book and now I am going to make a couple for my Granddaughters. Question - On the face do you still do the straight cut and glue back together. I was wondering for the face if I could drill a starter hole. I can't see glue line on yours. Thanks Don

  44. Been really busy with Fathers Day orders since about 4 weeks ago.. Not a order yet today.. which is actually kind of nice maybe I'll get caught up so I can sort through my stickered lumber pile as I want to move it inside up in the upstairs of my shop and up on top of the rafters.. Probably about 500 bdft to move.. Be a day of exercise since I'm taking it from all the way from the end of my property ( probably 500ft to my shop and then upstairs and up a ladder to the top, LOL.. Think I'll take my chainsaw and chop the 12 footers in half.. maybe even the 10 ft ones.. Free lumber from my brothers mill I got last year.. not sure how good a deal free is when I have to sticker it move it.. move it again then sort it and move it again.. then it's rough cut so i have to plane it.. maybe resaw it and plane it again, LOL.. Probably worth it since most of it is birdseye hard maple and walnut..

    BBQ Scroll Saw Challenge

Few BBQ Scrapers to get rid of the wire scrapers.
    1 point
  46. Well, I'd rather *eat* BBQ than scroll it, but every good BBQ needs a couple of things: dragon coasters, paper towels, a table, and a hammock to relax in during/afterwards. And for me....well...there's always books if I'm not scrollin'. Flynn seems to make it into a lot of photos. He's Dane/Bloodhound mix. As for grub...well, I'm a burger-n-brats kind of guy, leaning more towards the brats side of the grill. Found an amazing recipe for bacon-wrapped brats....basically, you cook the brats, then slice em open like a hot dog bun (keep the ends closed), jam them full of spicy mustard and shredded cheddar cheese, then use the universal kitchen duct tape (ie, bacon) to wrap them and keep them closed. Throw back in the oven for an amount of temp and time I couldn't begin to tell you off the top of my head (I've burned cold cereal, so I'm generally only allowed in the kitchen during cleanup). Pure frikkin bliss. (recipes vary, but this'll give you an idea) https://www.stockpilingmoms.com/bacon-wrapped-cheese-stuffed-brats/

  48. Here is a drink coaster I just finished. The pattern I used came from Scroller and I reduced it down to 40%. I did this as a test to see how it would come out. It is about 1/8" thick so I'm thinking if I do this again I will stack about 6(?). Next time I will pour in a small amount of color epoxy and let that set before finishing with all clear epoxy. I think I would also use water color paint to give the coral some color. A little lighter on the shark and it should be pretty good. Happy scrolling all …

  49. These are pictures I took at Lake of the Woods in Ontario. This is where I keep my boat and we are able to explore the thousands of bays and island. Turned them into puzzles. One of my favorite, very easy meals to do while out and about is a Steak Teriyaki recipe that was my mom's. So--- for 2 pounds of thinly sliced beef (or chicken and I will use eye of round): 2/3 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup salad oil, 6 cloves minced garlic, 1 Tbsp fresh grated ginger (or 2 tsp dry ginger), 2 tsp dry mustard, 2 tbsp molasses. Combine all ingredients in a glass bowl. Add meat. Let stand for 24 hours. (I usually put this in a "zip" bag). Tips for the recipe. if you are cutting the meat yourself, partially freeze the roast before cutting. It is easier to cut very thin slices that way. I will often portion the meat and marinade into smaller bags and then freeze. Serve with rice, a big salad and garlic toast. Very easy to prep. Very quick to cook, basically put on the grill, turn and serve!
