From reclaimed plywood.
Tomanydogs and 9 others reacted to Foxfold for a topic
I've got some wood from a company that refurbishes vans. It's the stuff they rip out and throw away. It's not the holy grail of Birch Ply, but I'm quite pleased with the results anyway. Good enough to oil and put a backer on I think. It's just laid on my kitchen table at the minute. An H.Botas Pattern.10 points -

I haven’t done much lately but I cut this last week. I had an interesting piece of walnut my brother gave me. The grain might take to much away from the tree itself though. I used a #7 skip tooth, it’s pretty thick. About 1 1/8”. I’m not sure what I’ll do with it probably hang it in the garage. The store I was selling stuff at, Art Z Studio had to close so I have nowhere else to take it. Its about 11” I did the pattern frame a stencil.10 points -

The Greatest Of These

Word-within-word pattern. Instead of cutting it with straight edges, I thought I'd try something a bit different. I think I like it this way over straight edges. 1"x8" whiteboard, stained Minwax Honey. Used Pegas #3MG blades. There are some fragile bridges in some of the inner letters, but I found that, since they are pretty much cut out in one section anyway, the rest of the scrap gave the bridges enough strength that they weren't any problem. I left the scrap in place when sanding the few burrs off the back of the piece, for the same reason.3 points -
Drum sander from Hegner

I will keep my 16/32 supermax drum sander it works great.3 points -
You could buy me one and I'll tell you how good it works, Not really, lol I doubt I'd use something like that.. I'd like a drum sander.. but I'm talking about the open end deal so I could sand a whole board that would be wider than my planer..3 points

Look like a sandflee. Just a bit expensive but might pay for itself if you do production work like a few of us do. Why don’t you buy one Jim and let us know how you like it!3 points -

Nicely cut! I tend to balk away from those repetitive cuts (like the border), but when I do a pattern with them, I find they go pretty quick.2 points -

Some of my projects over the years
Tomanydogs reacted to DJ2772 for a topic
Since I'm new to the forum I figured I'd post a few pictures of projects I've done. Of course I can't find photos of the majority since I usually just gave them away. The picture with the "I love my saw" was my first and second project I ever did. I only scrolled the doberman on the dog bowl holder, but the project still turned out great so I figured I'd share. I also made the cake topper for my wedding out of purpleheart. You'll have to excuse the gross glue residue on the wood, this was taken right after I peeled it all off...of course I can't find the picture of it on the actual cake...1 point -
Curved Lid Box and Hot Air Ballon Puzzles
Tomanydogs reacted to meflick for a topic
Well, I know I haven't posted many projects lately. Sometimes I hate the work to get it done to share! Plus, while I have done a few things - I haven't done a lot for various reasons. I did recently really like the curved lid box that Steve Good shared on his blog a few days ago. You can find it on his site here: http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2020/06/curved-lid-box.html; On his pattern, he used a lotus flower I believe, but I decided to use the butterfly in honor of my mother's love for them since this week would have been her 82nd birthday. We unfortunately lost her 4 years ago to Alzheimer's. I wanted a simple butterfly design so did a google search for a simple butterfly silhouette image. The box body is cherry, top of lid is maple, and inside of butterfly is purple heart. I have not completely finished the box. I had just finished sanding it and wiping it down with MS and thought I better go get a picture! So, while I was going to take the picture of my box, I figured I would take a picture of the hot air ballon puzzles that I did a while back as well. The hot air ballon puzzles were designed by Sarah Lyn Chamberlain. The Orange and white one was published in the Summer, 2020, Issue 79 of Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Magazine. It is the one with the tree frog Intarsia on the front cover found here: https://www.foxchapelpublishing.com/scroll-saw-woodworking-crafts-issue-79-summer-2020.html - Besides the pattern they put in the magazine, - they provided the second puzzle as a free download from their website which can be found here: https://1.shortstack.com/0tCJnG - They were cut from poplar wood and then painted full strength with Unicorn Spit paints. I thought they needed some bright colors as most hot air balloons do. The orange and white was in honor of my beloved hometown TN Vols and my daughter, who was here quarantine at the time, picked the colors for the other one. Just wanted you all to know that I am still scrolling some.1 point -

No it's the square style blade holders. All size blades from #2 To 12 I emailed Bushton with the serial number and they got right back to me. It was made in 1999 so it was older than I thought. I don't think it has had much use though.1 point -

I got it from pinterest, adjusted it a bit, en looked for a wallpaper on internet. i then used a battery operated ledstrip. the square frames are two picture frames glued together. the round ones are stack cut. the patterns (on pinterest or Google) are silhouette, so just type in: cat silhouette for example and you get loads. hope this helps a bit.1 point -
looks great, the grain in the wood adds to it nicely. Sorry to hear about your outlet closing. Got that going on everywhere. Take care. jim1 point

Yeah the logo on the back uprights is the newer style logo.. I'm not sure when they started using this logo.. but I know it's newer than my 1998.. I'm thinking this logo style came around 2003 ish.. Looks like you got a decent deal for sure..1 point

1/4 inch wood paneling I got at an estate sale....lol As for blades, I always use sharktooth blades from scroller online....I used the #2OR reverse tooth straight blade.1 point -
An oil based finish will darken the Ebony. What I would do is dip the pieces in a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. Wipe off the excess oil, then let it dry. Then apply a topcoat of your choice. Keep in mind anything that claims U.V. protection requires re application every year. It’s best just to keep it out of direct sunlight.1 point

Nice saw! That would be on my list as one of the choices.1 point -
Congrats on the new to you Hawk.. I sure like the Ultra model Hawks.. I've been watching one that is local to me waiting it out to see if it sells or not.. I might message them if it's still for sale in a few weeks to see if I can strike a deal.. I really don't need 4 Hawks though.. But if I land a deal I'll sell my old round barrel clamp style one and the Ex - 21 is probably going to be finding a new home soon to..1 point

I agree Kevin. However, keeping in mind how fragile it is I love it for certain projects and it cuts beautifully. Smells good too.1 point

Congratulations on your new saw. My hubby bought me one a few years ago now when they first came out for my joint birthday/mother's day gift that year, it was one of the first ones out and I have enjoyed using it and is my go to saw. Ray is great to have behind the saw for sure.1 point
