I cut these recently on my Pegas saw. They are an Alex Fox design, the first of his I have cut. The top 2 layers are 1/4 bb ply but I cut the base layer from 1/2 poplar to add some stability and a thicker backing for hangers. The art work was meticulously hand painted by my wife and daughter. I stack cut four each of the top two layers which worked out nicely. Enjoy.7 points

What tips/tricks have you learned this year?
WayneMahler and 3 others reacted to Fedido for a topic
I built 20 birdhouses so some orphans can paint them. Found measurements online and about halfway through, realized a better way to assemble. As long as the kids have fun, that is all that matters.4 points -
Playful Dolphins
meflick and 2 others reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
The Playful Dolphins are a pattern by Steve Good I needed something quick to cut. I used 3/4" Pine and cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #5R MGT blades. I stained them with SamaN stain. Azure on the water and Whitewash with a few drops of black to make the gray. Finish was dipping in diluted Shellac. Comments welcome3 points -
Intarsia Horse
meflick and one other reacted to jvbscroller for a topic
This is an intarsia horse I made for a grand daughter. I used a pattern from Kathy Wise' book, Intarsia - Woodworking for Beginners. Overall dimensions: 13" wide by 14.5" high. Wood used: walnut for mane cherry for head and neck wenge for eye, nostril and mouth I also used a medium brown wood but I do not know the name of that wood. Here are some photos taken while building this horse. *** Pattern still applied. First cut done except for pieces to be cut from wenge. I had a lot of trouble with the eye area. Had to cut that section twice. Cutting done and some sanding done. For sanding, I used belt sander and found it left some flat marks. Using a sanding mop removed the flat sections and showed contours much better. Ready for top coat.2 points -

For any of my puzzle zombies that aren't subscribed to my You Tube channel, I just did this quick video about minor modifications to Harvey Byler's patterns. https://youtu.be/JKbhJq-Dkvw1 point

I'm just guessing here.. but I suspect the reason they cannot ship to you.. is maybe you are not in the USA? Because of the Covid19 a lot of places are not shipping products outside of the USA.. I would try to give them a call and see what they say.. If you can post a photo of what roll pin etc. you are talking about.. I or someone might be able to help with a solution.. Does this saw have the round barrel style bottom blade holder? I suspect it does and I also suspect that the upper blade chuck that I think you are talking about is non adjustable.. so the whole assembly would need changed.. If this is the case then the upgrade to the new style whole assembly is probably the best option but does cost slightly more.. but it's a much better design... and adjustable... and you then can buy the wear parts individually.. I did this upgrade on my old 220VS..1 point

Enlarging a plan

I take mine to the school where I taught CAD and use their large format plotter. I may get shut off someday once all my contacts retire but that will be 30 years. So hopefully when I am 97 I still need to use that option.1 point -

Sawdust Static?
amazingkevin reacted to Rockytime for a topic
Perhaps this only happens to me, but...I'm cutting 1/2" Cedar with #1 PMG blade. As I'm cutting fine sawdust piles up both behind the blade as well as in front of the blade which obscures the line I'm cutting. My dust collection is adequate. While it does not pick up the sawdust when the cut is completed it often sucks up the piece that was cut out. The DC orifice is 1/2" tubing. I've tried a Lock-Line nozzle which does not work as well I'm assuming it is static holding the sawdust in place. I tried wiping the pattern down with fabric anti-static sheets. Dumb, but it did not help. I just finished cutting 1/2" Oak with #3 PMG blade. No problem. So...just wondering, could it be the Cedar and small blade causing the condition. I don't call it a problem. When it occurs I just lift my foot off the foot switch, brush off the dust with an acid brush and continue. I would not post something so trite or weird but things are awfully slow in the Village this summer.1 point -

You made minced meat out of that piece of wood, I'll bet it was extremely fragile to cut half way into it. your right at home with the infamous spirals.1 point -

Birdhouses can be addictive--just ask Denny.1 point -
I learnt to make mini bird houses. Have always loved them but my previous attempts at any 3D work always ended in near tears. However my first bird house was perfect so now I am hooked. Marg1 point

Open excel or any spreadsheet program you have. Insert pic. Now you can size it to whatever size you like with the little grabby things and it will print across multiple pages. If it is a pdf, you can change it to a jpg online or just take a pic with your phone and email it to yourself.1 point -

You are a master of the crafts, busy, busy just like a bee.1 point -
I always apply clear packing tape on top of the pattern. The trick is to burnish the tape down with a block of wood so the tape is perfectly adhered to the pattern. If you do this, dust can’t get under the tape.1 point

Les, most cedar is not kiln dried. It also contains a lot of oil. So you get a moist, oily powder rather than dry dust. It’s probably not dry enough for your dust collection to pick up. Like trackman above, I have my blower pointed at my dust collection port. I don’t have a remedy for you, just wanted you to know what your problem was.1 point

Sawdust Static?
amazingkevin reacted to OzarkSawdust for a topic
I get that also Les, but a much smaller pile...with a blower on my King. But I get it with different woods, and not all the time. I can even be cutting a line and get it for a couple of inches then turn a corner and it's gone. I just figured it had something to do with the piece of wood, maybe the clear shelf paper/pattern printed on a label, or humid/dry air in the shop. In other words...I have no idea!!!1 point -
Sawdust Static?
amazingkevin reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
I quit cutting cedar shortly after starting.. there was two reasons.. and this was one of them.. The other reason was it was quite fragile.. not much strength to it after cutting out all the inside cuts.. I made ornaments with it thinking they'd be pretty out of the reddish color plus many people like the smell of it.. But for me they broke very easily.. the sawdust around the blade as you are experiencing.. also to me the smell was quite strong and irritating.. But I'll admit I cut it back when I was first learning scroll work back in 2005 ish.. never cut it again, LOL1 point -
