A couple of projects
OzarkSawdust and 4 others reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Horses are an H. Botas pattern that was posted on his Facebook page. Backer is, of course, reclaimed pallet wood (sawzaw with a metal-cutting blade, then a Phillips screwdriver and hammer to pop the nail heads out, sand the whole thing with 80-grit to clean off the grunge and...stuff, then a couple of pieces across the back to hold them together). Backer is stained Minwax Honey, horses are Weathered Oak. I did put a second coat on the middle slat of the left-hand backer, it seemed kinda light to me, and the horse kinda disappears into it. After the second coat, it looks MUCH better, greater contrast. The planes...well, I'm a military history geek, so when I saw this pattern pop up in one of Steve Good's newsletters, I had to do it. Stains (all Minwax) are "Honey", "cherry red", "grey", and "classic navy". Back piece has a light coat of rattlecan matte white.5 points -

Playful Dolphins
meflick and one other reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
The Playful Dolphins are a pattern by Steve Good I needed something quick to cut. I used 3/4" Pine and cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #5R MGT blades. I stained them with SamaN stain. Azure on the water and Whitewash with a few drops of black to make the gray. Finish was dipping in diluted Shellac. Comments welcome2 points -

SSV's Political Platform
Mark SW and one other reacted to Jim McDonald for a topic
Not only do Travis and Clayon keep the place straight, it is largely due to the folks here wanting a place to discuss a common interest and for the most part, we push our chairs back under the table and turn out the lights when we leave. It's Travis's house and he invited us come sit around the fireplace and talk.2 points -
Hi all. Just a reminder political discussions are not allowed on SSV. Please read the first post of this thread as it spells it out pretty clearly. We try hard to keep things on topic and free of political and religious discussions. However, SSV is a big place and I'm not able to read everything. So if you see something that needs attention, please report it so I or Clayton can review it. It's a much better solution than getting worked up, or rage quitting SSV. Thanks All!2 points

Thanks for the introduction Clem. Always nice to know who is visiting us as it helps to establish comradery. I think that is a word even if spell-check says no. My wife is Canadian and hails from Alberta and her sister lives in Abotsford, BC.2 points

He'll be kicking that Devils arse again Nice cutting. I often use both flat and spiral blades, just for that sort of thing. Long straight, looping cuts the flat lots of twists and turns = Spiral2 points -
i would call and talk to frank pozsgai and see what he has that will get him back up and running. if he does not have it he can probably make it for you. doug2 points

This Buds For You!!
amazingkevin and one other reacted to Rockytime for a topic
Great! I don't understand what you did exactly. Is it one or several layers? How did you paint it? If you used a rattle can did you use frisket film? I really would like to understand how you do that beautiful work.2 points -
I cut these recently on my Pegas saw. They are an Alex Fox design, the first of his I have cut. The top 2 layers are 1/4 bb ply but I cut the base layer from 1/2 poplar to add some stability and a thicker backing for hangers. The art work was meticulously hand painted by my wife and daughter. I stack cut four each of the top two layers which worked out nicely. Enjoy.1 point

Yes, It's a kit they designed to repair the older saws.. The older ones like mine have no set screw to adjust the cam tension so when they got worn a little bit they just sell you a new cam and you have to push the roll pin out and remove the whole thing just to change the cam.. some of them I believe you had to change the whole front nose piece.. anyway.. this kit is an awesome upgrade for those older saws that have no set screw adjustment.. Here is a link to the kit.. http://stores.bushtonhawkstore.com/upper-blade-holder-bracket-conversion-kit/ This is a nice thing about Hawk and I guess? Hegner.. they support parts for saws that are 35 years old..1 point

Okay, so I've seen some questionable post here and there.. a couple times I was going to report it but I couldn't figure out how to report it.. I just came here to ask how to and then while reading the topic I found it. I've clicked on all the things at the bottom of a posting next to the Quote button but couldn't find it.. Now I see it at the top right of the post.. it's kinda grayed out until the mouse is hovered over it.. Now I Know.. and hopefully now that I pointed that out.. maybe someone else will benefit by knowing where it's at.. Thanks Travis and Clayton for keeping the site cleaned up..1 point

I'm glad you posted a first topic... hope it's not your last one as we like people to be active on posting topics.. it's what keeps this site interesting and draws in more people to post more topics which keeps it interesting, Hahaha As for the upgraded kit.. It will fit your saw.. the upgrade kit is to upgrade the old saws but works well through the years.. I believe the kit was made for upgrading the newer Ultra line of saws..to the newest latest style.. but the kit works on the older Hawks with the round barrel style lower blade holders too.. as they guided me 2 years ago when Ii upgraded mine.. Sounds like if you have the little square style lower blade holders then your saw is a Ultra..1 point

My youngest son has followed in his old man's footsteps and is proudly selling Cornwell Tools. Their first line hand tools are all made in USA. Their toolboxes are all made in USA. They sell a lot of Milwaukee power tools and my son says they are top quality. The many tools that they sell which are not made by Cornwell are made in many places but all are top quality. Cornwell Tools is still privately owned by their employees and sold on trucks owned and operated by licensed dealers. If you want to be your own boss, I highly recommend the mobile tool business.1 point

Bushton inquiry frustrating
Woodrush reacted to Clem's woodies for a topic
Thanks for all your comments. I was a little annoyed with the response from Bushton support when I entered my not very thoughtful topic. I'm more calm and relaxed now. The RBI model is 220VS S# 30976 It has the latest , blade holders from looking at pictures. upper holder is machined rectangular block with wing screw. It attaches to a bracket that has the tension lever. The two pivot points which are 1/8" roll pins have at least 1/16" movement . I haven't measured with calibers , when cutting 3/4" oak the noise and vibration is intense if I try and push wood faster. Slow is a reasonable vibration at 1/2 rotation on speed control. Already ready replaced pitman arm bearings that was a big improvement a few months back. Yes, I'm not in USA. My second request to support got a better answer. They only ship within USA. There web store does not indicate that at all.. Still no confirmation that there Blade holder assy conversion kit will fit my 220vs. I'm sure it will by looking at pictures. Frank P does not supply upgrades any more per website. I'm in Vancouver BC Canada area and would normally ship to Blaine WA but border lock down has stopped cross border shopping. My daughter works in San Francisco area so I will ship to her. I hope they will accept a different Bill address and ship address will try that tomorrow. This self isolation has many people working from home and finding new hobbies or doing more gardening. Certainly is annoying occassionally. This seems to be working for BC (2K cases) and Canada (around 200K cases) THanks for all your input. This is the first time I have ever gone on a forum and opened a topic. I am making toys from toymakingplans site. Currently making Dinosaurs . I grew up in a wood boat building shop , dad and grandad pleasue craft and commercial trollers . I am 80 and doing well, no meds , busy from 6am til 10pm. Try and do 3 hours scroll saw a day. Wish all good health and stay safe Gord C1 point -

What tips/tricks have you learned this year?
WayneMahler reacted to Woodmaster1 for a topic
I learned to buy tools without the wife finding out. I also learned don't make the first project so you won't have to make more. I built one farmhouse table for daughter in law which led to a second one for my daughter this will be my final one.( haha )1 point -

I'm just guessing here.. but I suspect the reason they cannot ship to you.. is maybe you are not in the USA? Because of the Covid19 a lot of places are not shipping products outside of the USA.. I would try to give them a call and see what they say.. If you can post a photo of what roll pin etc. you are talking about.. I or someone might be able to help with a solution.. Does this saw have the round barrel style bottom blade holder? I suspect it does and I also suspect that the upper blade chuck that I think you are talking about is non adjustable.. so the whole assembly would need changed.. If this is the case then the upgrade to the new style whole assembly is probably the best option but does cost slightly more.. but it's a much better design... and adjustable... and you then can buy the wear parts individually.. I did this upgrade on my old 220VS..1 point

I did the original Howard 500 plaque for a friend back in 7/17 because he had flown this aircraft many years ago. He invited me to join a FB group dedicated to recip corp aircraft. I posted it on that site an a member said that his Dad (+) had brought it back from Canada for restoration at his shop in FFL and he had also flown it for a few years before they sold it. Made a plaque for him also but added his Dad's company name. I made some mods to the original pattern for easier cutting. Some of the peninsulares were kind of floppy and thin on the nose.1 point

I understand the political rules. But, I don't understand the religious rules. Many religious items are posted and accepted. Is it just that we get to look at them but that we are not allowed to comment on them with a different point f view?1 point
