My Joint Box tool was bored
amazingkevin and 6 others reacted to munzieb for a topic
My creative juices were running dry and my wife asked about me making another joint box box she could paint a still life. I had plenty of 1/4" poplar so the sawdust started flying. Once my I-Box tool was set up, I was was done with the cutting in a few minutes. I added a tray too. Painting came out great!7 points -
Combination Project - Intarsia, Frame, Wood burning
Woodrush and 4 others reacted to jvbscroller for a topic
This project combined four steps. If you would like more information about any of these steps, let me know. 1. Make an octagonal frame and background. 2. Prepare a pattern for an eagle. 3. Make a wooden eagle to fit the octagonal frame. Dimensions of this eagle: 8.5" wide, 3.75" high. 4. Wood burn a verse onto the background. Glue eagle and frame to the background. I also added a sawtooth hanger to the back of the frame.5 points -

I think location plays a big part in the pricing. I sold mine for $200 a few years ago. It was 10-12 years old, but in very good condition. It wasn't used as a production saw and never exhibited any of the problems that seemed to be common in Dewalts. I don't know if I could have gotten $350. I sold it to a member of my wife's extended family, so I wasn't trying to get top dollar for it. Both parties were satisfied with the transaction.3 points -

I sold mine for $200 along with $200 worth of bearings and sleeves etc to rebuild it, LOL It was on the factory stand and I keep my tools clean waxed.. it looked new.. but I ran it hard for 11-12 years.. rebuilt it once and needed it again when I sold it.. even throw in the foot switch the Jim Dandy easy lift and some other odds and ends.. I would have sold it for more but my sons best friend bought it and I was thrilled that he had interest in trying to saw.. I also sold it with the option of getting first dibs on it if he should decide to sell it. He's been using it " hobbyist " for 2 years now and never has rebuilt it yet, LOL3 points -
Current Issue of Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts Thought I'd let everyone know that the new issue of "Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts" is now (or will be soon) available on the newsstand. Lots of nice projects in it and they have also included one of mine on making wizard wands on the scroll saw, using the compound cutting technique. I came up with the idea after working on compound cut of different varieties, and was wondering if I could cut something nice and long. What better than a Wizard's Wand (can also be used as a pointer or conductor's baton). Well you can check out the article in the Fall issue #80 if you like. I'm also offering a special eBook of 16 wand patterns, in case you get the wand cutting bug. It is available for $3.50 in my Etsy store. https://www.etsy.com/listing/822012980/magic-wand-compound-cut-scroll-saw?ref=shop_home_active_12 points

Lets Talk Sanding Disc For Random Orbit Sanders
John B and one other reacted to Bill WIlson for a topic
I like the Klingspor discs. I've also used the Diablo discs when I wanted to just pick up something locally. From Klingspor, I get the PS33 Stearate Aluminum Oxide H&L discs. I have no problems with them loading up. I don't typically sand a lot of resinous woods, but the zinc stearate in these discs is supposed to help prevent the discs from clogging.2 points -

I am lucky. Klingspor has a couple locations in NC. The closest one is 5 minutes from my dentist office. I also belong to a couple wood working groups that use one of their locations for meetings and we do demos there from time to time. Well we did prior to Covid-19. I have tried many brands and I find the Klingspor paper, while more expensive, lasts a lot longer and is thus worth the upfront cost.2 points -

Thanks Cashew, I'll check them both out. I have 4 Clapton cd's and I put them in my player out in the shop and just zone out to the blues. Great music for working. Ooh, I like that J.J. Cale. I just downloaded it.2 points

SSV's Political Platform

Not only do Travis and Clayon keep the place straight, it is largely due to the folks here wanting a place to discuss a common interest and for the most part, we push our chairs back under the table and turn out the lights when we leave. It's Travis's house and he invited us come sit around the fireplace and talk.2 points -
Yes, It's a kit they designed to repair the older saws.. The older ones like mine have no set screw to adjust the cam tension so when they got worn a little bit they just sell you a new cam and you have to push the roll pin out and remove the whole thing just to change the cam.. some of them I believe you had to change the whole front nose piece.. anyway.. this kit is an awesome upgrade for those older saws that have no set screw adjustment.. Here is a link to the kit.. http://stores.bushtonhawkstore.com/upper-blade-holder-bracket-conversion-kit/ This is a nice thing about Hawk and I guess? Hegner.. they support parts for saws that are 35 years old..2 points

SSV's Political Platform
Roberta Moreton reacted to Travis for a topic
We are heading into a political season here in the US. I'm sure it's not surprising to you that politics is a seriously divisive topic. I just want to remind everybody that political discussions and debates are not allowed on SSV. Politics is the quickest way to ruin friendships we've tried so hard to create. If you want to ruin friendships, Facebook is the place you want. If you want to talk about making sawdust, SSV is the place to be. Here are a few things that ARE NOT allowed: Inflammatory patterns/cuttings Political soapboxes discussions Political hot-button topics Political Jokes/Cartoons Political Internet Memes "I can't believe..." discussions. (c'mon...you know it when you see it) Here are a few things that ARE allowed: Respectful cuttings Respectful portraits Respectful patterns (seeing a theme here?) This certainly isn't an exhaustive list, but it gives you an idea. Here are the rules regarding politics and religion found in the User Guidelines: If you have a question regarding the appropriateness of a pattern, cutting, or discussion, let me know. If you see anything that you feel is inappropriate, please flag it and a moderator will take a look. More Scrolling! A political platform I can stand by.1 point -

I have been using Diablo and am very happy with it. I have read or seen a video about a product called Abrenet (?) . It's more of a mesh sanding disc instead of the paper backed stuff. I believe it is hook and loop also. Wish I could remember more about it.1 point -

I think you'll like cutting on this saw.. read the manual good.. many people think that knob at the back is for adjusting tension.. but it's not.. read the book and adjust as they say in the book... These are really nice saws for doing angle cuts.. Boy they didn't mess around with getting this shipped to you did they.. Where did you order it from? Enjoy making sawdust with your new toy1 point

What tips/tricks have you learned this year?
WayneMahler reacted to Woodmaster1 for a topic
I learned to buy tools without the wife finding out. I also learned don't make the first project so you won't have to make more. I built one farmhouse table for daughter in law which led to a second one for my daughter this will be my final one.( haha )1 point -
