  8. My mother-in-law requested a small name plaque for one oh her best friend. I contacted Don in Brooklin who came up with the design. He told me that he is not an artist but I do not see anything wrong with this pattern. Again thanks a lot Don.

    Fallen Warrior

The last two weeks have been horrible as there was an accident at work. I lost a fellow coworker whom I only known for a few months, but could tell he was special. So I have braved the South Carolina heat and my garage to make a few things in his honor. I thought I would share with the SSV nation my grief/healing.

  11. I've been using Dewalts type 1 for close to 15 years and wanted to upgrade to a smoother saw with a larger table. I debated the Pegas or the Excelsior ex-30 but after discussing this with Ray from Seyco, he convinced me to wait for a Seyco. I have to say that this is a solid saw and the table is enormous. I know I will enjoie this saw for years to come. I'm not getting rid of my Dewalts as I do demos quite often and it is the perfect size to transport for demos. Christian

    Hello from Wisconsin

I’m actually from Iowa. I came up here to Wisconsin when I retired. I have a $25 used Ryobi. It’s worth every penny I spend on it. I’m doing my first ambitious piece. I will show it on the site when it’s done. I’m learning a whole lot on this piece and I think I will be going and doing puzzles next time It seem easier. Later

    Framed

I framed Charlie Daniels today. I picked up a 11" x 14" frame at Wally World the other day and was just going to cut the window out to fit with an X-Acto knife. I've been wanting to start building my own frames for my art and other stuff...so I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a Logan mat cutter, a rig to insert V nails in frame corners, and a rig to inert points and brad nails to hold it all in the frame. It was fairly easy to use the mat cutter, and it made nice 45* beveled cuts to enlarge the window. I used black card stock for a backer to keep the thickness down. I could get use to doing this all the time. Those of you that frame your art: 1 Do you buy frames. New or garage sale finds? 2 Do you make your own frames? Details on wood thickness, rabbit depth, any other helpful tips? 3 Do you use glass or plexi-glass? 4 I cut the mat to cover 1/16th of the piece on all 4 sides...is that enough or is it better to have 1/8th or 1/4 "overhang"? 5 What do you use to "fill in" from the mat to the back cover? Normally 1/8th or 1/4 thick wood. Lots of questions...sorry. This is just another facet of the obsession/hobby that I need to learn to evolve.

    Framed

Nice job on your cutting and framing. When I need a frame I make my own. I use 3/4" x 2". If I paint it I use poplar. I usually rabbit the back about 3/8" x 3/8". I have never used matting or glass. Everyone has to develop their own style and way of doing things. When I first started doing portrait for people I would ask if they wanted it framed for and extra $25. They always chose for me to leave my 1/2" backer painted black sticking out 1/2" all the way around.

    Phone Amplifier

I was really feeling frustrated by my wooden gear clock so I thought I try one of these amplifiers. There are hundreds of examples on Youtube. This looked straight ahead so I gave it a try. I'm not sure what the wood is, except for the maple highlight. I went through my wood recently and found these items which I could neither identify nor remember where they came from. The finish is just Watco Danish Oil (natural) although the sound channel has a couple of coats of shellac. My hearing is very bad but to me there a marked improved when playing music through it.

that is most defently fantastic and beautiful!! now is that on a reall gun or is the whole gun the project? we always had bb guns and 22s and shot guns in the house when i was growing up....something like that would have been beautiful on them . my dad hunted a little bit but mostly they were just used to shoot at cans and targets

  36. Since the design came from a photo of Egyptian artifacts I would imagine it does say something. The portion of the artifact that I copied is about a tenth of the whole image. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
