  1. Our club was asked to come up with a project that could be sent out to the Seniors in Oshawa. With the lock down in place, the seniors who would normally come to the center for activities were being sent an monthly goodie bag that also included an activity. We were asked to come up with the July project so we did a group effort. I did the scrolling of the flowers and leaves and the turners in the club did wooden pots. (This was an idea that I borrowed from Rolf from a number of years ago). The total was 160. Been a great project to get a number of our club members involved and hopefully some seniors a break in these troubling times. Would be a good project for Senior homes too,

    Filigree Owls

The patterns are by Keith Fenton and found in the current issue of SWWC. I used 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R MGT blades. After sanding with the Sand Flee, dipped in diluted Shellac. After drying, a final sanding with the Mac Mop. Jute string for hanging. Comments welcome.

  3. I spent the last week cutting 4 commissioned wedding signs. They are 18” in diameter and double layer. Top is 1/4 bb ply and the backer is 1/4 mdf using a #1 MGT blade on my Pegas saw. The design is done by my son. Backer is painted gloss black and the top is stained and then has a coat of spray polyurethane. I edge band with copper foil to dress the edge.

    Seahorse

Harvey apparently had too much time on his hands... His newest design was very detailed. I kept the stand as a single piece whereas he drew it to be 3 pieces. I chose to keep it a little more stable. This may be a one of a kind cutting from me, like the Octopus was. LOL

    Couple of Botas cuts

A couple of quick and easy ones from the weekend. Both Botas Helder patterns. Loved the female face one first time I saw it, 6 X 13". The woman one is on a black poplar burl slab, approx. 11 X 14. Jeff

    Seahorse

I'm working on my second Octopus, this one as a leash/key holder. Knew I shouldn't have posted a pic of the first one. That's why if I ever do this one, no pics. lmao

  17. Welcome to the Village. Lots of good information and some friendly people here. Two things are required on this forum; ask lots of questions and show pictures. Didn't happen if no pictures. Tom

    Fallen Warrior

The last two weeks have been horrible as there was an accident at work. I lost a fellow coworker whom I only known for a few months, but could tell he was special. So I have braved the South Carolina heat and my garage to make a few things in his honor. I thought I would share with the SSV nation my grief/healing.

  19. I had been looking at this car for a while. I was impressed with its style and innovative design. Even though the company went out of business in 1938 I was always impressed with it Art Deco features. Only 8 were ever sold and probably had to do with the cost of $10,000 back in 1933 during the middle of the depression. One of the most unique features of this car is that they put the spare tires behind the front tires in a concealed panel. Different from cars of that era that had them mounted on the running board. I believe that gave them more room on the interior. As usual, the design clean up took longer than the actual cutting. (2.5 days) I went bigger because I wanted to get the grill right. I used my straight edge scoring technique for the grill lines and I painted in some of the bridges on the hub cap and body lines. The 1/8" plaque is 11.5 x 18" on 1/4" backer. Finish is shellac with Clear Gloss Lacquer.

    It made me chuckle.

I saw this and had to cut it, for no other reason than it made me chuckle. Straight off the saw so no finish or finesse or backer added yet. 20200712_175958[1].mp4

  23. This is no cheating I hope like super glueing the nickle, lol Boy that must be a quiet saw.My dw type 1 has my planner underneath it so that deadens some of the roughness I don't see.I can't do the nickle test as my saw is tilted much.
