    Police Officer

I'm not bragging about the project but rather about my 21 year old grandson. Out of 163 applicants to the police department there were five finalists and my grandson was the one they hired. He graduated from college with a football scholarship at the same time working for the campus police and security in a halfway house. I'm bustin' my buttons with pride! Pattern is by Sue Mey and top is metallic gold.

Fresh off the saw. Literally. Pattern and tape are still in place, outer edges need to be cut. Double-stacked this one, and good thing, there's so many delicate cuts that the bottom edge started to catch on the edge of my saw's table and delaminated in several spots (had to be careful, cuz this tended to send the sawblade shooting off in odd directions, and NEVER into waste wood). The top piece will be fine, the bottom may be really fancy firewood. Pattern by Grampa, available in the pattern library.

    Router Burning

One thing you might try is taking a spray bottle of water and spraying the areas with burning. Let the board dry. The water will leave the grain raised just enough that another light pass with the router and the burning should be gone. Give it a try. Regards Mike in TN

  6. Well when I ordered the parts from Seyco to rebuild my saw I also ordered the small dust vac system..... I got it all hooked up to the EX after the rebuild.. have run about 3 hours of cutting time on it and it sure is nice not having a pile of sawdust in my lap, shoes, and all over the floor.. I do still get a slight amount that is from the top side of the table... certainly need a collection hose from the top but for now this is 90% better than with nothing at all, LOL.. I had purchased just the Vac and the C-pap hose with a mini cyclone dust separator as well... in fact before I ordered the Seyco system.. but I have yet to receive the dust separator... believe it's coming from China as Amazons shipping said ship by Sept 10th or something around that time.. That system was way cheaper at about $60.. because I found a new open box vac for $28, C-pap hose at $6 and the mini cyclone was around $25 for the aluminum one.. I'll hook this one up to one of the Hawk saws once the cyclone shows up.. I cut one stack of 5 Christmas ornaments from BB ply and then cut two of these clocks.. The photo shows the amount of sawdust in the canister.. Virtually no dust in the Vac filter!!

    Air Brush

I have a cheap air brush set up with lots of extra containers to quickly change colors, etc and I believe you will spend a lot more time getting the air brush and attachments out and then cleaning them to put them away than if you just went to a wipe on stain of some type. God Bless! Spirithorse

Done in real cheap fiberboard thinking it was Masonite 1/4" pink craft paper backing for the lady. the hands in spirals blades and the rest with a number #5 from Denny's he sent me to try. 10. Coffee House is a place for off topic conversations, but the same forum rules still apply (those are found here). Even though it's off topic, politics and religion are not allowed. A conversation may feel lighthearted to the original poster, but these subjects will spin wildly out of control. Most of us identify with with a certain belief system that is core to our identity. When we attack or poke fun at one of those belief systems, it's easy to take it as a personal attack. So that is why we have that long-standing rule. I want to focus on what brings us together, not what tears us apart. I have several posts within this thread that clarifies a lot of stuff, so that might be helpful for new folks. I hope that helps.

  12. I cut this Russ Beard pattern today. 1/8 Baltic Birch ply. First time I cut something with Pegas 2/0 spirals that didn't end up in the trash! But I only had 2 blades left, that I had abused before, and they broke. Finished Charlie's coat with a #1 Pegas.

Hi everyone. Just want to let you know I won't be on for a few days. Going in for sinus surgery; Have to take it easy for about 7 days the doctor said. Haven't been in my workshop for over a month. Doing a lot of packing and will be moving to Florida.Hopefully by the end of the year.

  14. Even us "veterans" of scrolling have bad weeks. I thought the beginners would appreciate knowing that. I had 2 pieces become trash this week... I was engraving the cat wall hook and I bumped the table and it threw everything off... TRASH #1. Then yesterday I was cutting a custom piece with the dog's name and after I finished and removed the pattern, a minor blemish on the wood that I would never have paid attention to while laying out the patterns, made it look like he had a black eye... TRASH #2. No way I could send that to the customer so I cut another one.

    Air Brush

RATHER THAN AIR BRUSH (WHICH ARE A PAIN TO KEEP CLEAN) LOOK AT THE CRITTER SPRAY GUN. they ARE INEXPENSIVE AND i ASSUME YOU HAVE A COMPRESSOR. iT TAKES ABOUT 40 LBS FOR LACQUER FOR EXAMPLE. THE MATERIAL IS PUT IN A MASON JAR THAT CLEANS EASILY WITH ACETONE IN A SEPARATE JAR. THE ONLY DOWN SIDE IS THAT THE SPRAY PATTERN IS NOT ADJUSTABLE SO YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO USE THE TILT OF THE GUN TO CHANGE TO SP[RAY PATTERN. IF YOU GET 0ONE GET IT WITH THE STAINLESS FEEDER TUBE CAUSE THE ALUMINUM BREAKS WHEN DROP[ED ON THE FLOOR. DAKMHIK

    Air Brush

I have an air brush, actually a couple of cheapies. I used them for painting my toys, Stripes on Tigers and Zebras etc, with my big compressor. No worries. What I would suggest are some cheap touch up guns. I have 4 of them and use them for different coloured paints etc. but they should work fine for any other finishes.

    Air Brush

I have painting equipment and airbrushes that I use in the autobody collision repair work.. I'd love to be able to use the spray equipment for my woodwork stuff but as the others said.. cleanup is a lot of work.. I've thought about getting a cheap HF set or something that I would be able to just leave the stain or clear in and just clean up every few weeks.. But not happening in my $400+ spray guns and my pricey airbrush set either, LOL They are very rebuild-able but that job is also not fun.. so I refuse to use them for my crafts work.. Spray cans for these smaller projects is the way to go or most things I just dip in Danish oil as it's quick and easy.. The BLO you mention is basically the same thing as natural color Danish oil.. You can get Danish oil with color stains added. I use the dark walnut and the cherry one from time to time.. The bottom of this puzzle is done in the walnut Danish oil.. all cut fro the same board.. I just dipped the dog in natural danish oil and the bottom part in the walnut..

  45. It's not really "paper" John. Don't know if you've used it down under, but it's a clear plastic like laminate. Not sure if it would cut on a hack saw blade like a roll of paper does...but it's a good idea that I may try !

Many thanks for all the information. I cleaned up the project to be usable. I did sharpen the HF bit somewhat. However, I will get a quality bit. Unfortunately I need it so infrequently. Were I 10 years younger I would not hesitate. But since...How long will I be around?

  47. I cut 1/8 from time to time without a scrap sacrificial.. actually cut thin stock quite often around the holidays doing personalized ornaments.. I also use the #3 MG blades.. The hardest for any scroll sawer to learn is feeding the wood to the blade control.. many people will adjust a saws speed to help them control.. or they'll cut easy to cut areas until a blade starts to dull a bit before doing some delicate works that might go too fast for them with a new blade etc.. I learned to saw on a old two speed saw that low speed didn't work, LOL.. I now like to run my saws speed nearly full speed and I never adjust the speed unless I'm cutting metal or plastic.. My point is.. the saw isn't cutting too fast.. it's you feeding the wood to the blade too fast for you to control.. I think a faster blade speed gives a smoother cut edge and back side of the wood than a slow speed.. Everyone has their way of cutting.. and if you have to use a sacrificial piece or slow the blade down etc.. that's okay.. whatever gets you to a final piece and puts a smile on you is really all that matters..

    SSV's Political Platform

I wish I had a list. I really do. It would make things so much easier. It's all in the User Guidelines. But we can look at these individually: Allah be praised - (Result: OK) Inflammatory: No Defamatory: No Flaming: No Taunting: No General Disrespect: No Vulgar language: No Strong political or religious sentiment: No Intended to incite political or religious debate: No Racist, sexist, sexual orientation/identity intolerance, religious intolerance or other offensive comments: No Trudeau for Prime Minister - (Result: OK) Inflammatory: No Defamatory: No Flaming: No Taunting: No General Disrespect: No Vulgar language: No Strong political or religious sentiment: No Intended to incite political or religious debate: No Racist, sexist, sexual orientation/identity intolerance, religious intolerance or other offensive comments: No Hindus, see the Light and Convert to Christianity - (Result: Probably not OK) Inflammatory: Probably - You're implying that they're wrong and you know the true answer. Defamatory: No Flaming: No Taunting: No General Disrespect: Yes - You're singling out a specific group Vulgar language: No Strong political or religious sentiment: Maybe - Not strong, but it's there. Intended to incite political or religious debate: Not really Racist, sexist, sexual orientation/identity intolerance, religious intolerance or other offensive comments: No Vote Trudeau Out - (Result: OK) Inflammatory: No Defamatory: No Flaming: No Taunting: No General Disrespect: No Vulgar language: No Strong political or religious sentiment: No Intended to incite political or religious debate: No Racist, sexist, sexual orientation/identity intolerance, religious intolerance or other offensive comments: No A little story time: My aunt and uncle have strong political and religious beliefs. I know what they are, and for the most part I disagree. They're unlikely to change my mind. I'm unlikely to change their mind. When I go to their house for dinner, do you know what we talk about? Mostly fishing and camping, and that time all us cousins ganged up on Grandma in a game of Aggravation marble game (but we're pretty sure she let us win). Why? Because I value our time together and our relationship. If you think it something will cause problems or ill will, don't post it. Again, I think we all know it if we see it. If it was me, I wouldn't post anything political, but as you can see, there some wiggle room. We're here to talk shop with our friends, not spiral into a black hole of debate where nobody wins.
