    A-26 Invader

Back to planes. I belong to a forum on Facebook dedicated to recip engine powered corporate aircraft and I have been adding some of my related aircraft plaques to that group. The A-26 was a modified A-20 Marauder used in WWII with the same R2800 radial engines. It was operational in Korea and Vietnam as a ground attack aircraft. As they went out of service many were bought by private operators and modified for corporate transport use. The On Mark company upgraded several, (40-60) removing the bomb bays and military equipment and adding corporate interiors with seating for 6-8 passengers and additional side windows and upgraded avionics. The aircraft was fast at 360 mph and was popular with corporate operator until the advent of turbo prop and jets like the G-I and Learjets. I used the Umbria font. I like it because it doesn't need any bridges. Size of plaque is 11 x 14 BBPW with 1/4" backer. Finish, Shellac with gloss Lacquer.

    My Owl

Cut and framed a H. Botas Owl pattern that I've been wanting to do. It's a single 1/8" BB ply done with a Pegas #3 finished with spray Shellac. I think it would sell...may have to do more of them.

  9. If you have been following my patterns for the scroll saw, you have probably noticed a common theme: Old. Yes, I'm old and love a lot of the things from the past, so you will probably have to put up with a lot of "old" patterns. Find out more and download free pattern.

    Police Officer

I'm not bragging about the project but rather about my 21 year old grandson. Out of 163 applicants to the police department there were five finalists and my grandson was the one they hired. He graduated from college with a football scholarship at the same time working for the campus police and security in a halfway house. I'm bustin' my buttons with pride! Pattern is by Sue Mey and top is metallic gold.

    Hello JT?

I PM'd him a while back to say we were missing him. He is just trying to stay out of the fray so to speak. I do think he is reading everything posted but just not entering the conversations. Sometimes, that's the smart way to be.

    Cursive font

I use a free program called Nexusfont. I have all my font classified as scrollable, script etc. If you want to give me the names I can give back as a PDF and let bride decide. (Groom doesn't get a vote) Don't forget you will have to add bridges and sometimes that really changes the look. If you are cutting out the letters and sticking them on your sign you don't have to worry about bridges.

Most of these would require that you add some bridges but, here are some fonts to look up and consider. I would use and have used Script MT Bold on several occasions. Script MT Bold is my first choice. Brush Script MT Cursive Elegant Lucida Handwriting French Script MT Edwardian Script Palace Script MT Good luck with your project, I hope you show us the completed work, and God Bless! Spirithorse

    Tension or not?

Anytime something has pull on it either mechanical or gravity something has to give at some point. May not break but will weaken to the point that the pull, pressure, is released.

    First fret box

I spent some time this week cutting this fret box from the summer 2018 issue of SSW mag. Nice pattern although I was sweating a few bullets on some of the stems. Well either that our the fact that it is almost a 100 F outside with no cooling in my shop. Still trying to make a decision on how to finish it including using the marbling technique for the top they suggested in the article.

  19. I'm working on a Mick Jagger pattern by Steve Good. I'll work on the name tomorrow. It looks like it is raised and the cut outs are meant to look like shadows. I'll have to see if I have a drill bit small enough to make the blade holes! A spiral would be a one pass in that narrow spot...but I would wreck it for sure. I'm thinking maybe a Pegas #1, don't think a #3 would turn around. Has anyone done this one? If so what did you use on the name? I like it so far! Well, Here's the finished product.

    A-26 Invader

I was going to add the Wikipedia link but after reading it, I got confused too. I kind of made it a generic design to try and cover all bases.

  23. A bit late to the party, I loved Klingspoor. I purchased 200 of the 360, 220 and 180 and 120 quite a few years ago. Have run out iof a few now and have been getting Diablo from the local hardware. If our Dollar improves a bit, I'll be placing another order with klingsore. I also use their paper for my Drum sander and their rolls for the oscillating drum sander.

  25. For you guys that like Harbor Freight, try this out. Buy a cheap sander, and keep this on it permanently. I’ve had the same one on a cheap 20$ sander for 4 years now, never changed it. https://duragrit.com/DuraDisc-Carbide-Sanding-Disc.html Then keep whatever fine paper you normally use for finish sanding on your good Dewalt, Mikita, Bosch sander, and just switch between the two. Also one of these is a must. https://www.harborfreight.com/sanding-belt-cleaner-30766.html Works on belt sanders, disc sanders, hell it even works on nail files. Quit wasting money on sandpaper. Spend that money on lumber, or spray lacquer, or beverages.

  34. I use a gallon poured into a coated aluminum pot that my wife gave me. When I'm done dipping I hang my project over that pot until it stops dripping. Then I take a lint free rag and wipe it down. Then set it aside to dry. I have a large plastic funnel that fits the screw cap opening on the can pretty well. I pour it all back in the can and cap it off tightly. I took a piece of 1 x and bored a hole just bigger than the cap and turn the can upside down with the cap in that hole so it sits flat. That puts the air gap at the top. I do that with all of my paint cans too. Keeps the paint from skinning over. I figured it might help the oil too. So far I've not had any problems with the oil going bad.

    Cameo Box

Dave, not much I can say, that I have said before on your work, another beautiful piece, very well cut with the inlay, RJ

  37. I would not ever pour it back in the container it came from unless I had emptied the container. Most, if not all, of the finishes, I have used tell you not to do that in the instructions. I would save it to a separate container or throw it out.

I have cut 1/8” stacked 3 pieces with no problem, maybe your blade is too aggressive, I would use a #3 or even a #1 blade. Hope this help

  48. I like the Klingspor discs. I've also used the Diablo discs when I wanted to just pick up something locally. From Klingspor, I get the PS33 Stearate Aluminum Oxide H&L discs. I have no problems with them loading up. I don't typically sand a lot of resinous woods, but the zinc stearate in these discs is supposed to help prevent the discs from clogging.

  49. I am lucky. Klingspor has a couple locations in NC. The closest one is 5 minutes from my dentist office. I also belong to a couple wood working groups that use one of their locations for meetings and we do demos there from time to time. Well we did prior to Covid-19. I have tried many brands and I find the Klingspor paper, while more expensive, lasts a lot longer and is thus worth the upfront cost.
