I cut this for Tony, it's a surprise for him, I hope he likes it. I started it a while back and I can't remember where I got the pattern from, but if I do recall I'll give credit as I think it's a great pattern. It's a Jim Blume pattern.

    Jewelry Box

I did this jewelry box pattern by Alex Fox over the weekend. Man...that's a lot of pieces for a little box! It's 1/8" BB ply done with a #1 Pegas blade. I think it would sell at the craft shows this winter, so I might get some 1/8" Walnut and Hard Maple from Ocooch and try it with hardwood.

  8. Finally got back to the scroll saw for a few hours. Been busy making pens on the lathe for co-workers. Not the best that I have cut, but needed something simple to ease back into it. Sheila Landry designs. Walnut and Maple

    Tension or not?

I release the tension on the scroll saw, band saw, belt sander and my Shopsmith which has variable speed belt drive. I wish releasing MY tension were that simple.

Thanks Marg! I like the way it came out...my wife did too, she snatched it right away! Now to experiment with some different colored hardwoods.

  11. I was going to blacken the cross hairs but chickened out! May still do it, but the areas that doesn’t show the cross hairs, scared I’ll mess it up. Pretty cool pattern!

  12. Like everyone, i get those blowouts due to that unsupported area where the blade goes through the table. Dewalt saw. I have been using a playing card with a hole in the middle of it taped to the table top. That works ok but the wood catches on the edge of the card and its irritating. Figured I needed something bigger. Went to walmart and in the shelf liner section they have rolls of self adhesive clear lamination for about $6. Worked perfect. Taped a sheet to a blank of some scrap wood and drilled a hole in the middle. Taped it on the sides to the edge of the table and works great.

    Excalibur 21

I had thought about having my top powder coated because it is a very hard finish but the local company closed down. Oh well...

    Excalibur 21

About that table top, whenever I see that, I know the user has some hours under his belt, and their reputation in my mind skyrockets. Using that when judging how much a used EX has been used, is very handy. Unless they had it covered, a pristine EX table would be a good indicator of low hours. Secondly, I would look at it's country of origin, I wouldn't pay anything for the chinese version, life is too short. It doesn't hurt to put it on the market for $500, you can always come down if it doesn't sell. It's really asking $400 for the saw, and $100 for the upgrades, which sounds better when worded that way.

    Jewelry Box

Nice job, interesting to see this box in an exotic hardwood. Yes, she likes small boxes, but sometimes she cant find separated top of the box, so I made one with rotating inner part.

  19. Good Job Kevin. i am fully aware of that problem. I used to make toys and purchased my paint in 4 litre tins, then decant it into 1;litre or 500ml jars. After not doing anything for a number of years, I had to chuck litres of the stuff out,it stank. I did save some, but it was a waste.

    Tension or not?

every single time Im done with the saw for the day - the tension comes off - think its smart and helps the longevity of the saw- have done this since day 1

  41. I subscribe to an web site called fontbundles.net. They have freebee Friday and this was one of the freebees but it also is on dafont. I am a font junkie and collect neat stuff. A lot of these are used with Cricut machines. I have designed a few signs for a friend and so I am always on the look out.

  49. Not only do Travis and Clayon keep the place straight, it is largely due to the folks here wanting a place to discuss a common interest and for the most part, we push our chairs back under the table and turn out the lights when we leave. It's Travis's house and he invited us come sit around the fireplace and talk.
