Iv been working on my wizzard fret work mostly at my saw, so decided to finish some things i have shoved in a boxs.... I love doing the compound cut patterns and im sure the rest of you do this too. I dont throw away the side pieces most of the time, i toss them into a box, and then when it gets to hot to scroll in the wood shop I grab a box of what ever needs to be finished and make myself at home at the kitchen table. lol this time i decided it was time to work with the compound cut wast wood. Now what i do is this IF on the inside of the side piecees have to many different thickness i carefuly take the peice to my saw and saw down the higher parts and then finish it with my dremal... most of the work is done with the dremal making that side flat or carved so it looks right. that way i get 3 or 4 projects from one compound cut. when there finished i make magnets out of them , or glue them to crocheted headbands, or use them for inlays or what ever comes to mind at the time lol i know im not expling this to well but the pictures will help make it clear and like i said im sure you guys do this too so you'll really understand what im trying to saywhen you see the pics ok well of course the pics arent all in order but the first 2 pics are of the little tub i throw the my compound cut waist pieces. The next 3 pictures are of the wizard pattern im cutting out...the left side is where i made the inside cuts just in case you cant tell. the next 3 are of the compound cut and waist pieces all done and painted, I have to glue the wiggle eyes on the bunnys and frogs they just have to have the finishe put on them the 3 snowmen i made out of the wast from the pencle bunny topper i got on here.... i crocheted each one a hat and scarf and im going to go see if i can find some small enough brances in that big pile of sticks and brances we have in the back yard, if i do i'll give them arms lol the last 2 pictures are of some of the peices im working on now. lol now remember i DIDNT cut all of these things out now, im just taking the ones in the box and finishing them.... now i know i can put a plastic bag over my foot so sawdust dosnt get in the toe but before i can do more work on them i have to find a way to prop up my left foot while at the kitchen table. lol same with the sawing...have to find a way to prop up my foot as they want it elevated. im sure i'll think of something!! unless of course spike has a fit about my doing woodworking with a stithed up foot. lol im glad he didnt live with me when i was younger and totaly housebound, i dont think he could have handled it. lol i had to dr myself up when ever i got hurt... or sick lol it was not aways a pretty sight!! lol well im going to get off here and see if i can figure out a way to prop my foot so i can do some more work on those cast off pieces2 points -
Like everyone, i get those blowouts due to that unsupported area where the blade goes through the table. Dewalt saw. I have been using a playing card with a hole in the middle of it taped to the table top. That works ok but the wood catches on the edge of the card and its irritating. Figured I needed something bigger. Went to walmart and in the shelf liner section they have rolls of self adhesive clear lamination for about $6. Worked perfect. Taped a sheet to a blank of some scrap wood and drilled a hole in the middle. Taped it on the sides to the edge of the table and works great.2 points

Harbor Freight has some 4 ft LED lights on sale most of the time for $19.95. I bought 4 of them and let me tell you, they are bright. I only use 2 of them most of the time. Well worth the cost. So much better than the florescent lights that I had.2 points -

You might check into having it epoxy coated.. That is ( I believe ) stronger than powder coat.. also believe that is what the Pegas table has on it..2 points

I'm assuming you're talking about the table top? I've thought about re-painting mine.. Yours looks much more worn than mine does.. I assume you must have several hours on the machine.. If I was going to actually re-paint mine I would suggest taking the table off since it's only 4 screws.. this way you're not getting over spray on the rest of the saw.. If I do mine with paint I'll be using a automotive Urethane base coat clear coat on it.. Real durable stuff... Or a single stage Urethane... If I was just cleaning it up to sell then I would try matching the color as best as you can and then use a quality spray can of paint.. NOT rust-o-lium either.. as that stuff take a long time to cure good and solid.. it's more of a cheap oil base paint...but doesn't hold up real well.. I'd go with Dupi-color or Krylon enamel.. Not cheap but some auto paint supply stores will mix up a single stage Urethane and put it into a spray can for you.. One can should coat it several times.. keep it stored in a cool dry place and it might last for a long time.. Thing with Urethane paints is it has a catylist / activator and once it's mixed.. you don't have forever to hold onto it and use a will.. Should also wear quality respirator with these types of paints.. I had also thought about asking a powder coat place what it would cost.. that would hold up quite a long time too.. If you do decide to spray it.. you should use a de-waxing solvent on it.. especially if you've waxed it.. then sand it down.. I'd use 400 grit wet sanding paper and then follow up with a 600 grit wet sanding paper.. Drop of dish soap in the bucket of water will help the sandpaper last longer and also helps remove any contaminants .2 points

Do you do other woodworking along with scrolling? What other machines and tools will be in the shop? I would totally put the A/C in, but I am a wimp and have a narrow happy temperature window. I love the fridge idea, I would totally want that if I was away from the house. I would also look at the floor. I used peel and stick laminate tiles to upgrade the floor of my basement shop and it really made me happy. It was easier to clean than the concrete, and looked so much more finished. Another option would be the foam anti-fatigue type tiles, especially if you stand while you scroll.2 points

Penguin Surface Puzzle Pattern
Tomanydogs and one other reacted to baggetta for a topic
If this puzzle looks a little bit odd, it's because it is. I call it a surface puzzle because the actual puzzle floats on the top of a backboard surface and locks into place by special pins at strategic points. So a flat puzzle with no real locking pieces can become a meaty stand up puzzle. See how to video and Download Here.2 points -

Hi everyone, I'm back for a little while. Surgery went well and I'm home taking it easy for a week or so. I think I mentioned that I will be moving from Georgia to Florida around January. Selling off a lot of my tools so I don't have to cart them with me. I already sold my DeWalt 788 and now I'm thinking about selling my Excalibur 21 inch. I thinking on maybe buying the new Pegus from Bearwoods when I get to Florida. Wondering what you all think I could get for it. It comes with the stand, foot switch, light and I also put the new pegus blocks on it. I also have the chair i'll throw in with it. It's around three years old. It's all a little dusty and I didn't have time to wipe everything off. I thought maybe $500 or more. Thanks for all your input, Ralph.1 point

This was my first attempt on using different stains on the same project. I didn’t tape off the different areas so stain ran, especially on the horse. So to try and help the project, I used water colors to try and cover up some of the issues. Then added more on the reflection to draw attention. Probably won’t try this again!1 point -

I started releasing blade tension when I had a Delta P20 scroll saw because the parallel arms were made of a composite material. My thinking was if the saw wasn't used for a long time a memory might be developed in the arm material. It has just become a part of shutting my saw down now.1 point

Zero tolerance feed hole simple fix

I remember seeing someone post about using a full sheet of that white magnet stuff on his table top. I was going to buy some but just never did get around to it.1 point -
I have had that happen to me once or twice. The ways I get around it is either finishing wax on the table to the point it is smoother than a babies bottom or what I have done on the cast iron table saw when I didn’t have finishing wax is to use pledge spray. Same results.1 point

Thank you all for your inputs. The floor is plywood, but just replaced outdoor rubber mats/fake brick with real brick and I tend to use them to soften the floor. I already have LED light bulbs in sockets. Maybe upgrade at a later time. besides scrolling stuff, I have an ancient delta cabinet style table saw with a cast iron top. I just replaced the motor so it should last another thirty years. Other than that, just a miter saw stand and I am looking forward to not lugging around a Dewalt miter saw that weights more than a baby elephant. I think the next thing will be a dust collection system. The AC will be drawing air from outside, but blowing it around in theory on the inside. If I keep it off, I can stay on my weight management of sweating 10 pounds a day out. Thanks again for all the comments.1 point -

Excalibur 21
WayneMahler reacted to hotshot for a topic
About that table top, whenever I see that, I know the user has some hours under his belt, and their reputation in my mind skyrockets. Using that when judging how much a used EX has been used, is very handy. Unless they had it covered, a pristine EX table would be a good indicator of low hours. Secondly, I would look at it's country of origin, I wouldn't pay anything for the chinese version, life is too short. It doesn't hurt to put it on the market for $500, you can always come down if it doesn't sell. It's really asking $400 for the saw, and $100 for the upgrades, which sounds better when worded that way.1 point -

I usually leave the blade with no tension, but mostly because I do fretwork and to put the project away I have to un-do the blade. I also like to start new projects with new blades and often toss the blade at the end of my cutting session. I do remove tension on my school saws (band saw and scroll saws) when I leave for the summer. 3 months of no use seems a bit long.1 point

howling wolf bookmarks
Tomanydogs reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Howling wolf bookmarks. Found these ovals (I didn't cut the outer edges at all, that's how they came out of the pack) at the crafts store (Michaels), next to all the popsicle sticks. They're MUCH better to cut than balsa (they were completely out of BB ply), cheap, and come 8 to a pack. These may be my go-to if I need to cut any more bookmarks. The craft sticks: https://www.michaels.com/wide-wood-craft-sticks-by-creatology/10433016.html1 point -

What tips/tricks have you learned this year?
Angelo reacted to barb.j.enders for a topic
I can so relate to the time issue. I stopped reading any of the blogs for a while because people kept putting in the time it took them to cut a project. I have realized that I cut at the speed and time I cut and it doesn't matter to any one how long it took. I don't sell at markets, so there is no time line. The only one putting the "time" issue on an item was me. It is still frustrating seeing someone post something with a time frame and I wonder "HOW THE H3ll" did they do that in that time????1 point -
I release mine just because it is a habit to do things like this. Just try to take care of the equipment.1 point

What tips/tricks have you learned this year?
WayneMahler reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
That one is been on my list to make.. I seen a laser cut design on etsy back around March.. and I've been wanting to make a pattern to cut them.. I think they'll be a hit as ornaments as a gag gift but also to remember the pandemic of 2020.. Cutting the letters small enough to fit into an ornament has been my issue with trying to design a pattern.. I like to give my ornaments out in a gift box and the box size is around 5 x 3-3/4 so the ornament with that much text is quite small letters to cut.. I may have to make the roll and change up the wording.. Maybe I just need to set up my laser, LOL.. rather keep scroll stuff on my main website as its predominantly hand made.. am doing another site for CNC / Laser stuff..1 point -

I learned to buy tools without the wife finding out. I also learned don't make the first project so you won't have to make more. I built one farmhouse table for daughter in law which led to a second one for my daughter this will be my final one.( haha )1 point
