  1. 1/8" laminated flag and backer. Sprayed with rattle can paint. Still deciding how I want to frame it. #1 Pike blade. Backer painted ivory. Pattern came from a clip art site. There are several and don't recall which one.

    Parrot Wall Plaque

This is a 9"X15" wall plaque that I made from a ZM Creations Royalty Free Parrot Ilustration and not a scrollsaw specific pattern. The top layer is 5/32" Maple solid core plywood over a double layer of inexpensive 1/4" Luan backer. I took a few liberties with the cut out work and then painted the colors on the backer with acrilic craft paint following the colors of the ilustration. I muted the maple with a single coat of natural clear stain to embelish the grain pattern of the maple and finished the panel with about 7 or 8 coats of high gloss lacquer. I did light sanding using 1500 grit sanpaper between coats. I finished the piece by framing the plywood to hide the exposed edges with a an upside down corner molding painted, with a shaker can, gloss black. Using a wood burning tool I signd and dated the back side and then added picture hanger brackets. The quickest part of the project was the scrollsaw work. Waiting for stain, paint, laquer and glue to dry takes up a lot of time! . Patience is not my strong suit.

    Braided Box

First off,I did not make this box. It's one I've had around the house. It was pretty, but plain, so I decided to spruce it up a little. The braid design was one I saw on a piece of leather. It was so striking to me that I wanted to see if I could reproduce it in wood. It came out okay, but there are some things I'd do differently if I was to ever do it again. Sorry about the blurred photo of the open box.

  10. Born and raised on LINY and retired and relocated in 1996 to the Mountains of Western North Carolina and subsequently moved to Florida in 2014. In NC I had a 24'x 32' fully equiped wood workshop where I did alot of wood turning and flatwork projects. I had a scrollsaw in the shop but it did not see much uses as other woodworking projects kept me busy. When I moved to Florida losing the wood shop broke my heart. A few of the major shop tools I did take with me was a rdial arm saw, a sanding station, a router table and the scrollsaw. I moved into a small duplex with no garage so most of the tools had to go into a rented storage unit until recently. A few months ago I placed a concrete a slab and built (assembled) an 8' x 12' resin shed that I have made into my MINI woodshop. Cannot do any large projects but a small work bench, a fold up contractors table saw, my sanding station and the scrollsaw at least got me back being able to do some woodworking...now mainly scrollsaw projects. At least I'm making sawdust again! I'm also an advid motorcyclye rider so a few of my early projects relfected that subject. I also made a desk sign that reflects my look on life. Looking fowward to participating in this forum.

    Deer Head

I finally fired my DW up yesterday, also got my printer working in the shop so I can print my patterns now....this one is 1/2” sanded ply painted hunter green......I have several more requests from friends to make with their last name in the middle.......first time scrolling since my accident.......it’s been a hell of a year so far, first my accident & now Covid-19 in our house (daughter)......she’s on the mend though, but we are quarantined til August 15th praying no one else gets sick.....so might as well make some sawdust....

    First pice

This is my first pice. Made on a $25 Ryobi pin end. I learned a lot on it. When I look at all I see are my mistakes. I have a Cricut that I made the template on . Then traced it on the green tape, drilled holes and cut out. The finished picture is in bad lighting the stain is even. my questions are. 1. Are the pin end blades at the dutchman store better than Menards? 2. Puzzles look like some thing I would like. Where can I get full size patterns? I don’t have a printer. Thanks in advance for all of your comments.

You asked about puzzles and I am going to assume jigsaw puzzles from photographs. With a little practice, cutting freehand, or no pattern, can be fun. Look on YouTube and there are some great puzzle cutters. Find Carter Johnson for small freehand cuttings.

Ever since I saw the Meme about these I knew I needed to build one. (neighbors have chickens) Found a "new" pallet at my work that had only been used to bring in a large piece of equipment so was clean and fresh. And Voila! Chick-nic table!

    What hinges to use?

I am not optimistic enough to use 1/4, I would go with 3/8, even the pic looks like it is done in 3/8ths. Using 3/8ths makes fitting up hinges easier too. Just my thought, YMMV, great looking box though

    Shutter Project

Are these shutters interior or exterior? Exterior shutters means dealing with weather, sun, and cupping if you use hard wood. For exterior I would use marine grade plywood and paint. The pattern you show for the shutter is nice, but for it to work that means cutting out the white. I would use 3/8 for the fretwork, and 1/2 for the backer

Im just glad that i was able to be of some help to someone. lol when you cant really draw you have to find other ways to do things. My youngest daughter just graudated from collage this sumer and starts her first job when school starts... She became an art teacher...and i am so proud of her!! She will be starting her teaching by teaching at least at first on line. with this pandemic a lot of things are hard to find these days.... another place you can often find line drawings is in magazines.... best advice i can give you is to just keep your eyes opened while you going about your days.... there are many places a pic could show up. im so sorry your having tremmers now... it must be terrabley hard not to be able to doi the art work you love so much!! Trying to relearn how to live is not an easy task. I am having to do that myself these days. i have spent my entire life multi tasking...but as i am getting older and my health is getting worse i am finding this much harder to do. lolo my boy friend is always telling me to just do one thing at a time and then go on to the next one. lol now you would think that would be easy enough to do. lol but some how regardless of what im doing im thinking about and planning and working ou in my head the next 2 - 5 things im going to do or getting ready to do or alread am doing lol .... oh in case you didnt guess it im a 62 year old lady!! lol pace yourself if you can and try to to just consintrate on the project at hand. and when you get get frustrated with yourself you can always talk to me about it knowing that im going through the same type of thing lol and we can just be frustrated together!! lol let me know if theres ever any thing i can do to help you

This is for Dragonkort, I I don’t know how to make a reply to someone that replied to my post. When I try to make it just a reply to my post it comes up with the heading above and I have no idea why. There was a quote from his reply that I deleted so I can type in here. thank you for your very great reply to me. I have been looking at coloring books and I do understand the line drawings negative space and the topics that you spoke of . I am an artist I have tremors and it is difficult for me to draw now. I have been looking for coloring books. Most of the stores are closed near hear. I will look on Amazon. Thanks for the advice.

  36. This pattern is by Keith Fenton and found in CWWC August 2014, the last published issue. I used Red Oak 1/2" x 8" x 10" and backed with Baltic Birch plywood stained black with SamaN stain. It was cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #3R MGT blades. After sanding, finished with spray Shellac.

    Hawk model 220VS

On the Hawks it's really kinda hard to tell how much a saw has been used.. A really well used saw would have a worn wedge at the back of the saw.. The wedge is under the tension adjuster at the back of the saw.. it should be quite pointed edge on it.. not rounded at all.. another thing to look for is the front tension cam lever.. It should meet resistance before it touches the arm without a blade installed flip the lever back.. if there is no resistance before it meets the arm then the saw has been used.. NOW.. the newer saws have an adjustment set screw directly below where the lever goes through the arm.. Older saws like this one doesn't have that set screw.. but there is a upgrade available for around $50 to get the newest version for the adjustable one..

  40. Try checking "document properties" under "file" to make sure its set to 8.5 x11.

  41. I don't know how to solve your problem, but one work around might be to print to pdf, then see if that works. If it is correct, then the problem is with your printer reading Inkscape. You might need to download new drivers for it. And you can print the pattern from the pdf file. Tom

The easiest way to make a new table top is a magnetic sheet, I put them on my saw over a year ago and still looks new https://www.amazon.com/Magnum-Magnetics-Strong-Flexible-Material/dp/B00HPAB2DW/ref=asc_df_B00HPAB2DW/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312393068560&hvpos=1o5&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4315964365999646768&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031544&hvtargid=pla-568877589769&psc=1

About that table top, whenever I see that, I know the user has some hours under his belt, and their reputation in my mind skyrockets. Using that when judging how much a used EX has been used, is very handy. Unless they had it covered, a pristine EX table would be a good indicator of low hours. Secondly, I would look at it's country of origin, I wouldn't pay anything for the chinese version, life is too short. It doesn't hurt to put it on the market for $500, you can always come down if it doesn't sell. It's really asking $400 for the saw, and $100 for the upgrades, which sounds better when worded that way.

I'm assuming you're talking about the table top? I've thought about re-painting mine.. Yours looks much more worn than mine does.. I assume you must have several hours on the machine.. If I was going to actually re-paint mine I would suggest taking the table off since it's only 4 screws.. this way you're not getting over spray on the rest of the saw.. If I do mine with paint I'll be using a automotive Urethane base coat clear coat on it.. Real durable stuff... Or a single stage Urethane... If I was just cleaning it up to sell then I would try matching the color as best as you can and then use a quality spray can of paint.. NOT rust-o-lium either.. as that stuff take a long time to cure good and solid.. it's more of a cheap oil base paint...but doesn't hold up real well.. I'd go with Dupi-color or Krylon enamel.. Not cheap but some auto paint supply stores will mix up a single stage Urethane and put it into a spray can for you.. One can should coat it several times.. keep it stored in a cool dry place and it might last for a long time.. Thing with Urethane paints is it has a catylist / activator and once it's mixed.. you don't have forever to hold onto it and use a will.. Should also wear quality respirator with these types of paints.. I had also thought about asking a powder coat place what it would cost.. that would hold up quite a long time too.. If you do decide to spray it.. you should use a de-waxing solvent on it.. especially if you've waxed it.. then sand it down.. I'd use 400 grit wet sanding paper and then follow up with a 600 grit wet sanding paper.. Drop of dish soap in the bucket of water will help the sandpaper last longer and also helps remove any contaminants .
