    Geode Puzzle

For my wife's birthday she received a "Geode Puzzle" from our eldest son. It's the most different type of puzzle I've ever seen. Once it was assembled she didn't want to just break it up and put back in the box. She wanted to see it periodically and enjoy its uniqueness. So I made a puzzle tray for it so she could display it. The puzzle web site is: https://www.uncommongoods.com/fun/games-puzzles/puzzles-brainteasers The site has a lot of unique items you'll find interesting, I'm sure.

    First clock

This is my first attempt making a clock. I had the pattern for years but never cut it. Pattern is from Wildwood Designs. Cherry Tree Toys has two of their arrowheads, but haven’t been able to find the others since the two merged.

    Lighthouse

I did this for a lady that's redoing her kitchen in a Lighthouse/beach theme. It's a Steve Good pattern done in Cherry ply w/#1 Pegas blade, thin dipped in Watco Natural. I might make some more for craft shows this season.

  6. Steve Good posted on his blog today an excellent video on how to do double bevel inlay/marquetry. I have a great book and I also took a class but this is a great presentation and explains it very well. He has another video on how to do it with a laser but this one is scroll saw.

  7. I merged two layers to create this pattern. This was truly from the heart. I have to say that I felt God's hand when deciding to create this one.

    Shutter Project

Birchbark, I like them both. But she texted me a photo of what she wanted...so I went with it. Might do the others sometime for kicks. I was also thinking of turning one shutter into a portrait with light beams going both ways, but haven't tried to do it yet.

    Pegas rotary tool?

I have several Dremels and when I do anything extensive they all get really hot. I am looking for an alternative. Steve Good has been kind of promoting the Pegas through Bear Woods. It is quite pricy, but I would be willing to spring for it if I was convinced it was all that. Has anybody got one? And, if so, do you have any feedback?

    Chick-nic Table

Ever since I saw the Meme about these I knew I needed to build one. (neighbors have chickens) Found a "new" pallet at my work that had only been used to bring in a large piece of equipment so was clean and fresh. And Voila! Chick-nic table!

    Shutter Project

If your looking for, or, trying to get the proper look for shutters, then you should be using 3/4" stock for the framework. Then any other parts, can be the same thickness, or about 1/8" less thicker than the framework. I did a job like this years ago, they aren't all that hard to make. Make the frame first, then do the rest to fit it. Len

    Perplexed

A drop of mineral oil along the cut line, slow saw and feed speed, use skip tooth blade.

    Perplexed

What speed are you cutting? Higher speeds will increase heat, and the plastic melts. Try recutting the line at the slowest speed your scroll saw has. If that doesn't work, try lubricating the blade with a little wax, such as from a candle. Final idea, use a little spray bottle to keep a bit of water on the cutting area. Be careful to not get water in the electrics. Dry thoroughly afterwards. Tom

  42. No, did not get into woodworking until I retired in '96 and moved to NC and built my shop. Worked for LILCO for 36 years and most of the time it was 6 days a week, so other hobbies came an went but woodworking was not one of them until I retired. I did belong to the SCWWC for a while, but the trip to their facility in Greenville, SC was a little too far to make it practicle to be an active member. They had a great place and it was nice to be able to buy wood through them. Now, my age is creeping up on extinct, but I just needed something to keep me active. I enjoy my MC but the heat and rain can keep me at home for days at a time, so I decided to jump back into making sadust even if it is only a dustpan full at a time.s BTW, grew up In Babylon, moved to Bayport for 3 years after getting out of the service and getting maried, then moved to Hauppauge before excapeing South. My daughter and Son-in-law still live in Mastic Beach whil my son had followed us down to NC and still lives there. Probably more than you really wanted to know.

  44. I got drawn into Covid-19/political debates for a couple of days on FB. Realized nobody has ever changed someone else's mind in the history of social media and I was not having any fun. So I went to my shop and made this and posted it on FB in a "guess a # between 1 and 500" giveaway.Time much better spent and I'm smiling again. Y'all stay safe!

    What hinges to use?

Here's a few places I have bought hinges and catches from for boxes. The type of hinge 1st depends upon the type of lid you use, overhang, flush, inside, apron etc and if you are prepared to house them in or only want surface mounts. I go along with Tom, and never use nails, although that is what some of the smaller hinges and catches come supplied with. I always use screws https://www.craftparts.com/product-category/hardware/hinges-brass/ https://www.nationalartcraft.com/product-index.asp https://www.nationalartcraft.com/subcategory.asp?gid=12&cid=103&scid=1762 I have also used Quadrant hinges. They are neat as they incorporate a stay, but take a little more work to fit then standard type hinges Another type I use are the concealed hinges, barrel hinge

    What hinges to use?

I had to google it... and your favorite store has them.. looking at the pictures it looks to me like the outer art lines up with the hole in the hinge and then you get your hole perfectly centered into the hinge hole for the screws to go in and sink without getting them off centered etc.. I may be wrong on that.. https://www.harborfreight.com/hinge-drill-bit-set-3-pc-61550.html

    First pice

I agree with everyone else you did GREAT!!! now about patterns i agree with everyone else on that too. and another advantage with a printer you can print a lot of different things as well. I do have a suggestion for patterns...if you cant do any of the things already suggested you might try this..... Get some coloring books...there usuly not very expensive....then take some tracing paper and trace the picture. after that is done you can use spray adhesives to attatch the pattern to the wood, then take mailing tape and cover your traced picture with it. This helps keep the picture adheared to the wood and helps lubercate the blade....another way to get the picture onto the wood is to tape your traced pattern on to the wood at 3 sides. Then slide a piece of carbion paper between the traced picture and the wood... now go over the lines of the traced picture with something. When i first started scrolling i used a crochet hook to trace the lines..later i got a traceing tool i bought from the winterfield collection... you can pretty much make a pattern out of any line drawing that way. you can usuly figure out the inside cuts by looking at the whole picture...for instance a picture of a girl with her hands on her hips...you would cut out the center piece between the arm and the body... i hope that makes at least a little bit of sense. Here are some pictures of projects i made from line drawings..The shied with the red strip and dragon on it i made from a coloring book picture of a shild the dragon is a piece of scrap wood from a compound cut dragon. The pilgrams are from a picture i found in our local grocy stores add in the paper at thanksgiving time. the second shield is from a picture in an old D & D magizine you can see where i did the fret work on that one.the guy in the center of the shield is another wast piece from a compound cut. The last picture Sometimes the Dragon Wins is also a picture i traced from a cartoon pic in a D & D magazine. I traced each piece seperatly to make the overlay of the pattern. I used very small pieces of wood from different thickness to put under the over lays to give the picture some depth. Before glueing the overlays to the base i painted the background. then i made the frame to go around it. I made the sign at the bottom from another piece of scrap wood left over from a different project. well i know i didnt expline all that very well but hopefuly the pictures will help, and i didnt get to long winded

    DeWalt question

My two cents is to save a little more money and get a Pegas or King. Dewalts are not as good as they once were.
