  1. I used up some Cherry and Padauk I had around by reducing the size of Steve Good’s patterns by 40%”to 6”x 4 3/4” I tend to cut almost every pattern smaller that I use of someone else’s design. I find it not only more challenging, but also more sellable.

    I'm so excited !!

I've just taken a delivery of 100 A4 sheets of 3mm Baltic Birch. It's amazing !! Now I know this isn't 'exciting' for all you that can get BB at the drop of a hat, but I've never used it before and I can't wait !! And I just had to tell someone that knows what I'm talking about as there are no scrollers near me and Tony is slightly bemused by my excitement

    Excalibur 21

After reading in here his aclaim, I followed his instructions and will now await my new Pegus w/stand in about a week. As I told Denny, assuming Covid-19 doesn't claim me as its victim, I may still have a few more years of scrolling in me. So I decided to spend my childrens inheritance and get a saw that, I hope, is better than the Porter Cable Scrollsaw I purchased from Lowes. The PC does the job but the blade has a tndency to jump around a lot and the whole thing vibrates pretty badly. I'll put it up on a local selling site and see if a can get a few of my dollars back. I know the value of good tools so it was a no brainer.

    Lighthouse

I did this for a lady that's redoing her kitchen in a Lighthouse/beach theme. It's a Steve Good pattern done in Cherry ply w/#1 Pegas blade, thin dipped in Watco Natural. I might make some more for craft shows this season.

    First clock

This is my first attempt making a clock. I had the pattern for years but never cut it. Pattern is from Wildwood Designs. Cherry Tree Toys has two of their arrowheads, but haven’t been able to find the others since the two merged.

    I'm so excited !!

Nope, just another thing that is different around the world I am afraid. Here in the USA the most popular and traditional sizes of paper are Letter (8.5 x 11 inches), Legal (8.5 x 14 inches) and Tabloid (11 x 17 inches). Letter is the standard for most documents. Course sheets of wood usually are different from paper sizes just to confuse things even more. Found this chart that shows comparisons of most of our standard. Congratulations Brenda on your find and purchase. Look forward to seeing what you do with it and how you like it.

Well, I couldn't wait at all so I've put aside the Tiger I was in the middle of and I've pick something relatively simple. I've chosen a 'clown'' and it's going ok up to now.

    Geode Puzzle

For my wife's birthday she received a "Geode Puzzle" from our eldest son. It's the most different type of puzzle I've ever seen. Once it was assembled she didn't want to just break it up and put back in the box. She wanted to see it periodically and enjoy its uniqueness. So I made a puzzle tray for it so she could display it. The puzzle web site is: https://www.uncommongoods.com/fun/games-puzzles/puzzles-brainteasers The site has a lot of unique items you'll find interesting, I'm sure.

  27. Intarsia cuts are typically done at 90 degrees. The contouring or 3D effect is done by sanding.

Find it very interesting that they are selling BB the size of paper. Typically here it is 12" x 12" or 12" x 24".

  31. I just finished cutting one of Alex Fox's boxes in Walnut and Beech. I'm thinking a dip in Watco Natural. All solid pieces are Walnut. All fretwork pieces are Beech. Only the two "feet" are glued at this time. If I dip the pieces separate, they won't want to fit when dry as they are tight anyway. What about dipping outer box...inner box...top fretwork. When der put the inner into the outer, drop in the hinge pin, glue the top fretwork on? Any better ideas? I haven't finished anything quite like this before. The first one was grabbed by my wife and remains unfinished BB ply.

    I'm so excited !!

Well over the last couple of years since I started scrolling, I've heard so many people say they use 3mm BB and all I've ever had is ¼" ply. I saw a company on the internet that not only did 3mm BB but they were in England !! So I went on their website and spoke to one of their staff and they were very helpful so I thought ''what the heck'' I need a treat. They had 100 A4 sheets for sale for £40 ($52.60) and £6.95 pp,($9) That makes it 47p a sheet. (62 cents) with postage. Not sure whether that's a good deal or not but I'm as happy as Larry.

    trinket box finish?

I agree with Scott, use a brush and "paint" the oil on! You can control the amount and still be able to get into the more difficult areas and not have the finish collect in those areas and not dry probably. This way you can also apply the finish twice just to be sure you have it all done. Erv

  48. Steve Good posted on his blog today an excellent video on how to do double bevel inlay/marquetry. I have a great book and I also took a class but this is a great presentation and explains it very well. He has another video on how to do it with a laser but this one is scroll saw.

    Pegas rotary tool?

Thanks for all of the feedback. After doing a fair amount of research I decided to go with the Foredom 5240 from Klingspor’s. I friend of mine does more woodcarving than anybody I know and it was his recommendation, too. The price doesn’t seem to vary much from one place to another, but some don’t charge sales tax on out of state orders. This is an example of the woodcarving my friend does that convinced me to go Foredom. He has tried them all and I figured I’d take his advice. .
