    Surf'in Woodie

The 1948 Ford Woodie is a true American classic. You can almost hear the refrain of a favorite Beach Boy tune, imagine the surfboards and smell the ocean breezes. Most were made from maple with a few beech models but almost all were prone to rot. Back in the 50’s and 60’s they were cheap but restored models now can run over 80K. It was a fun project of 1/8 BBPW on a ¼” backer. I used my paint, fill in technique on the grill and wheel wells bridges to give it visual continuity. Time to Hang 10!

    I'm so excited !!

I've just taken a delivery of 100 A4 sheets of 3mm Baltic Birch. It's amazing !! Now I know this isn't 'exciting' for all you that can get BB at the drop of a hat, but I've never used it before and I can't wait !! And I just had to tell someone that knows what I'm talking about as there are no scrollers near me and Tony is slightly bemused by my excitement

  8. I used up some Cherry and Padauk I had around by reducing the size of Steve Good’s patterns by 40%”to 6”x 4 3/4” I tend to cut almost every pattern smaller that I use of someone else’s design. I find it not only more challenging, but also more sellable.

  10. I want to thank everyone who tried a pattern for this one for me. Russell I went with yours and it was a huge hit. He loved it!! I cut two, one for an autograph and one for Mr Pace to keep. He was very surprised. There's video of him signing it on my facebook page if anyone wants to see that. Courtys Scrollworks But long story short I can't say thank you enough to the amazing pattern makers in this group! You've come through for me on more than one occasion and always have top notch designs! Thank you again!

    Chick-nic Table

Hey Russell, and for anyone else interested. The dimensions on the table are 21 inches long 11 inches wide (at the table top) 11 inches high. The sides to make the "tray" are an inch and a half. On this one the seats are seven inches wide but I did a second one where they're only around 5 wide and I moved the legs out to the very edge of the table top. This made it a lot more stable. The legs are cut on a 20 degree angle.

Custom order by a woman named Rose. Took the rose from a Steve Good cross pattern, but prefer simpler lines - so I made a simpler cross. Cherry Wood

    Chick-nic Table

Ever since I saw the Meme about these I knew I needed to build one. (neighbors have chickens) Found a "new" pallet at my work that had only been used to bring in a large piece of equipment so was clean and fresh. And Voila! Chick-nic table!

    My first ever 3mm cut.

Your cutting came out great! I cut a lot of 1/8" BBPW and I always make sure to sand both sides before I start cutting. Sometimes there are loose fibers that can be pulled up when you remove the pattern. Even thin plywood can be hard on blades because of the glue. They dull fast and break but you can make very fine cuts with the smaller blades.

    I'm so excited !!

I'm happy that you're happy. I do find most scroller's a happy bunch most of the time that is until there is an equipment breakdown or a splinter under your fingernail. &#@!% Other than that we're fine. Seriously, good find. Can't wait to see what your making. Happy scrollin' Ben

    Hawk model 220VS

My first little project on the new to me hawk scroll saw. I started thinking about scrolling just before last Easter and printed this pattern off of Steve Good's site. Kinda crude but i will improve, learned a lot. I have not used a scroll saw since the early 70's. Nothing like this, back then it was just furniture parts. I have a long way to go. I really like this saw even if it is 25-30 years old. Most of my stuff is from early nineties and earlier

  38. Intarsia cuts are typically done at 90 degrees. The contouring or 3D effect is done by sanding.

Thanks Melanie, I've put aside some work I 'should' be doing just so that I can try it. It's 'different' that for sure, but I'm quite liking it and really looking forward to 'stack' cutting as that is also something I've never tried. Jack of all trades, master of none, that's me. !!

  40. 12X16...that is huge!!!! I'm in Florida on a very small piece of property and a house with no garage. I recently laid a slab and assembled a 8X12 Resin shed that I have turned into my MINI workshop. No large projects but it works for Scrolling. Beside the scrollsaw I have a small workbench, a fold down contractors table saw, a sanding station a small 3 gal air compressor for operating a pin nailer and a router station that doubles for a bench to stand my miter saw on. Lots of shelves for all my hand held power tools, and other goodies. The Shed also doubles for storage of my excess motorcycle parts up on the back shelves and I can even back my MC in for safe keeping when the next huricane shows up (just got to move the scrollsaw out of the way). I do my scrolling with the doors open and a small fan to circulate fresh air. I'll probably need a small heater in the winter when the temps drop into the 40's. A small shop vac, broom and dust pan works as my sawdust collection system.

FrankEV, you are going to LOVE your new saw. I don't have a Pegas but if they are anything like my Excaliburs, you won't be disappointed. Enjoy your new toy and be sure to post some pics of your work. We all love pics.

    Excalibur 21

After reading in here his aclaim, I followed his instructions and will now await my new Pegus w/stand in about a week. As I told Denny, assuming Covid-19 doesn't claim me as its victim, I may still have a few more years of scrolling in me. So I decided to spend my childrens inheritance and get a saw that, I hope, is better than the Porter Cable Scrollsaw I purchased from Lowes. The PC does the job but the blade has a tndency to jump around a lot and the whole thing vibrates pretty badly. I'll put it up on a local selling site and see if a can get a few of my dollars back. I know the value of good tools so it was a no brainer.

  50. Welcome to The Village. I have 2 EX's and I love them. I have had a Ryobi, two DeWalts, and a Hawk. Scroll saws are like cars. One person loves Fords and another like their Dodge and then there is the Chevy person out there. Each one has a car that fits their fancy. Same with saws. I dreamed of owning a RBI Hawk and found one for one $65 at an estate sale. I snapped it up. I had a DeWalt at the time and I liked it pretty well. It turned out that i was not impressed with the design of the Hawk and used it very little. I finally gave it to my daughter. Then a friend of mine ask me if I was interested in buying his Excalibur and I jumped on it with both feet. I fell in love with that saw and wanted to get my hands on another one, as they had stopped producing them for awhile and found them hard to find. One day I jumped on craigslist and found an almost non used Ex for $200. I had it home within the hour. So good luck on your choices. Dick heppnerguy
