  3. Finished organizing everything in the garage today and made the last trips of moving things. AC unit installed, water in fridge so time to start making sawdust. so back to what I love to do. Cut wood about my sweet chocolate love (chocolate lab) and let the AC flow. BTW, it is cut 1/4 walnut, dipped in Teak oil and finishing wax to top it off. Used a Flying Dutchman Ultra reverse #3.

    Pot holder

My version of Steve Good pot holder, I had some Zebra wood kicking around, so I decided to use it. The spoons were fun to do, I just used my ball sander to shape them (no finish on them yet). I might look for a fork pattern to match the spoons. Anyway it was fun to do.

  6. Sawtooth Hanger Compound Cut Project Pattern You can go out and buy those metal sawtooth hangers when you have a picture or plaque to hang, but it is just as easy to make your own out of what you cut best -- wood. New cutting

I was so inspired with the shop being clean and organized that I cut a new piece this evening. On Steve Good's site he calls it a "Christmas Oval". I cut it, with #3 Pegas blade, from 1/4" Walnut ply with a 1/4" Maple ply backer. Finishing is Watco Light Walnut on the fretwork and Watco Natural on the backer. I may hit it with a couple coats of Lacquer tomorrow to help protect it.

  8. I seen this cut before somewhere a while back & really loved it, so I had some time today to designed my own pattern this morning, I'm calling it "The tree Of Life Cross"..... I had this nice piece of red elm in the shop & thought it would look very nice with this cross, it's 10 x 12 , 5/8" red elm, 4 coats of Deft semi gloss polyurethane with 400 grit light sanding in between coats, chamfered edges. comments always are welcomed. God Bless & Thank You.

  9. I have bought nothing but used saws, all from Craigslist. I watch everyday even though I'm no longer needing a saw. I have purchased and resold 3 saws and now have 2 of the Green Excaliburs and money in my pocket to boot. I strongly recommend doing the same if the market near you is anywhere as good as it is here where I live.

  10. Friend in high school bought one that was really rough shape. should have been a parts car.. but he and his dad sorta restored it and it was an awesome car for a short time.. He turned left at a traffic light when he thought the oncoming traffic was going to stop as the light had turned yellow / red... and the back fender took a pretty hard hit... they pulled it out and made it derivable again though they never really fixed it back up.. I think they had plans to but then he smoked a deer with the front too so.. LOL Boy they had a lot of work in that old car.. I'd have never attempted to fix it.. there wasn't a straight or rust free panel on the car when they first got it, LOL.. nor did it have an engine.. but they got a junkyard motor and rebuilt it etc.. Like I said.. they had a lot of man hours putting that car together.. only looked good for about 8 months before the first mishap.. LOL There was a post about that car on his FB page last week which inspired me to make this clock, LOL

  12. Forgive me if this has been a topic before, but I am looking for recommendations for a decent scroll saw, with a price range of $200-500.00. I have owned Dremel; Delta and also have an antique Delta-Rockwell saw that I am restoring. Does anyone have any thoughts about the Shop Fox? Thanks

  13. I'm in the process of making some keepsake scroll saw boxes for Christmas presents and looking for some tips. I have one ready to go right now. It has a hummingbird scroll saw pattern that I will use. I want to set the pattern off with a nice background. I can make the boxes all right. Just looking for some tips on how to line them. I do have some flock. I also like the idea of putting a backing behind the scroll saw cut outs. I see mostly black used for this. My question is what do you use for this? I was thinking of cardstock. I just don't think lining the box with black cardboard would look nice. Then I thought is could line the box with the black cardboard then use some adhesive backed felt over the cardboard to dress it up. Would that work? A lot of extra work, but i do want the boxes to look nice. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance Ben This is the box I'm going to make for my grandkids. I also have a butterfly one. It has a purple background. I just need a little help on how to line it and show off the pattern.

    Clean workbench!

Not really bragging... but I did do what I've been putting off. Did you ever get to the place you can't find anything right on the bench? I was between projects this morning and told myself "you've got to do something with this mess"! So I cleaned up the workbench, and found a few things I thought I had lost! I'll post a picture...neat, clean, organized...it probably won't stay that way for long...LOL! Also I got tired of the tubes I have my blades in rolling around all the time. When I bump the saw table they will roll off onto the floor...and I have to stop and pick them up. So I dug around in Steve Good's site and found a "tube carrier" plan I had seen a while back. Didn't take long to cut out and glue up...presto, all my blades are organized and within reach!

  18. I would think some heavier card stock wrapped in self adhesive felt should work. Just be careful gluing it on. I use E-3000 for this when I do it. Nice job on the one posted it really looks great.

    Clean workbench!

Not sure which you're talking about. I have a Central Machinery 8" bench drill press on the far right. I use it a lot and keep a 1/16" bit in it mostly. Then between that and the sander is a Dremel in a plunge router attachment. I use it for tight fretwork and keep a #56 bit in it mostly. Both work out great for what I do!

  24. I was like you with the same price range. I thought about a shop fox. It didn't tickle my fancy. I ended up finding a Dewalt 788 type 1 that with shipping pushed 500 with a stand, and a light. might have been a little too much for a 20 year old saw, but I have absolutely loved it. I have since tore it down and replaced all bad bushing, which was one. I would say a Dewalt or delta as they are about the same. It is up to you though as it is your money. If I had to do this all over again, I would still take the Dewalt 788 Type 1 as it is North American built. Type 2's are made in either China or Taiwan (Senior moment I am experiencing) and from what I have leaned, it is a roll of the dice with them. Good luck.

  26. Thank you Marg! As for patterns, not really but sort of, LOL.. I buy vectors of car images from a couple of etsy sellers.. they are just the image of the car... I then put the drawing into inkscape and add the part below the car with the car name then add the spot for the clock... this is why I don't share the patterns as the car portion really isn't mine to share.. Sometimes I'm able to work off of a coloring page.. Oh and I modify what to cut out or not while on the fly.. so I've gotten pretty good at knowing what will be a floater in a pattern and what have you.. I don't clean them all up as a scroll saw pattern normally would be.. just follow my gut on where to cut.. Also these vectors work with my CNC and laser for future projects.. Hope to one day open another store with my CNC / laser work.. I'll keep KevsKrafts a scroll sawn store and open up something new for the other stuff..

    Newbie on a Saw Search

$200-$500 is a small window I would choose a Dewalt788 or Delta 964other than that there is a Porter cable. Check out the scroll saw review under the resiyurses. Home Depot has the Dewqalt 788 for $508. IKE

    What hinges to use?

I'm going to make some scroll saw keepsake boxes for Christmas presents this year. Looking for suggestions on the best type of hinges to use and where can I buy them?. I will make the boxes out of solid 1/4" red oak or maple. Maybe both. Below is one pattern I will use. There are others. Thanks
