Pattern by Travis. cut from unusual 1/8" BB. I purchased this BB several weeks ago from Paxton Lumber. I can't use a telephone so my daughter ordered it for me based on instructions I had written down. We picked it up. I remained in the vehicle while it was loaded into the back. I did not see it until arriving home. It is beautiful but surprise, it has a plastic laminate on both sides. They had cut the 5X5 sheets in half so I could not return. It's ok though. The stuff is beautiful. Went back this week and picked up the regular BB. Anyway, after all that explanation, I did cut Travis's pattern from the coated BB. Nice thing, it requires no finishing. Project is about 10 inches wide, I think. #1 Pike blade. Cut without a backer. No fuzzies on the back due to the coating. Whew, that's all folks. Oh yeah, I know the grain should run horizontal but this was the size of scrap that I had.10 points -

Fist project completed on the Pegas. Mostly cut with a Pegas #1 modified geometry blade. Small block letters is not my strong skill, but I think these came out pretty good considering I still need more practice, but much better outcome on the new Pegas then I could do on the old Porter Cable. The Pattern from Steve Good's Scrawlsaw Workshop - Professional Beer Taster. It is going to be a Birthday present for my Son-in-law. The top layer is 5/32" solid core maple plywood over a piece of luan stained a dark walnut with his name cut out at the top and then over a bottom layer of the Solid core Maple plywood. Finished with many coats of lacquer and then permanently mounted in an inxpensive frame I got at Wallmart.9 points

The 1954 Kaiser Darrin was the last production car of the Kaiser Car Company that started after WWII. Henry J. Kaiser was a renowned entrepreneur and builder of large projects like the Hoover Dam and thousands of Liberty ships during WWII. After the war he started a car company realizing many returning troops would be looking for new cars. He bought the monstrous Willow Run plant and starting making cars and was successful until the big 3 returned to full production in 1948. His final attempt to keep his business viable was the Kaiser Darrin. Working with the designer “Dutch” Darrin, they were trying to compete with the Corvette and T-Bird. The car was very innovative. The doors slid into the forward wheel wheels and the body was all fiber glass. The car was received well but the engines were under powered. He was not making his own engines and was dependent on other manufactures for his engines. Eventually, only 450 cars were built and the commercial car production ended in 1955. He had bought the Willys /Jeep company and that was later purchased by American Motors and later, Chrysler. Current asking price of the Kaiser Darrin can range for $100,000 to $125,000 at auction.4 points

A couple more of those DANGED Git - Fiddles .. I mean Guitars

So - someone gave me a bed headboard made out of solid oak. Okay, thanks. Then - I have a source for WALNUT BURL, so, I just did some squaring to see what I could get out of one of the bigger pieces of it. Pretty nice stuff. So - now a friend who loves guitars like I do - is having his 64th birthday - what a perfect way to use these two woods. So - I finally got to use a blade bigger than a 2/0 - and - what a JOY !!!! I used a Pegas #3. The Oak Headboard ended up being just shy of 3/4" , and I cut the WALNUT BURL into a couple slices of 5/8". I think I could have made the backing a bit larger - but - it has about 3/16" all the way around the walnut. So, it came out fine. It's pretty darned heavy though. So - here's a picture or two of the process, and, again thanks to Steve Good for the pattern that Old Joe and I used. If anyone wants some of this walnut burl - let me know - as you can see from the pictures it's pretty thick - and - it's in various sizes. You would have to pay for the piece (which I think is DIRT CHEAP at 15 bucks a piece) and shipping. But - I don't mind boxing it up in a used amazon box and putting it in the mail for you guys. You are such great help to my new hobby.3 points -

Harvey sometimes comes up with new designs and in the package I received from him yesterday there were 3 new Troll patterns. I just finished cutting 1. Too cute. The patterns are available on my site. This one is "Troll3". For the sharp eyed ones of you out there that get it, see if you can spot the couple of minor modifications I made to it.2 points

The drill press is as easy or complex as you want it to be. You can just simply change the speed with the knob or program in presets that require just a push of the button. If you are not sure what speed is best then use the menu. I have compared their recommendations with my machinists guide book and they are spot on. It is tall and very heavy. One thing I tried yesterday was to hit the emergency stop while it was at high speed. It has electronic braking, and it really works. Good to know if ever something goes wonky. I also put a dial indicator on it to check the chuck run-out. When I first put it together I did not clean the taper as well as I should have. I chucked a 3/8 steel rod and it had a bit more wobble than I would have liked. I then replaced it with a Jacobs chuck from my metal lathe and it was no better. So yesterday I cleaned every thing up properly and put the chuck that came with it back in. About 1/2 inch below the chuck I had about .0005" runout at 4 inches below the chuck .003". I am very pleased with those numbers. I will play some more another time to see if the jaws are seating evenly.2 points -

What an adorable pattern. Nicely cut Les. I like the way the grain is going, didn’t know there was rules with grain direction.2 points -
I know many don't like working with mdf for the reasons listed, and it's awful if it gets wet and is not as strong as PW, but there are advantages too. It's really cheap, dead flat, available if lots of thicknesses, paints well and in lots of stores. I love it for jigs and other shop projects. I especially like how it works with this mft work surface I made last year.2 points

I clicked the headline and held an empty glass under the corner of the screen, expecting cold beer. Just got off the mower and that would have been just the ticket! Instead, I got to see Tony has taken my position and now has a good looking plaque to prove it.2 points -

MDF For Signs

MDF cuts like a dream and I love useing it but refram from doing so from the terrible hazardous dust it makes. Paints and stains so easy. I was given 6' tall stacks 10.75" x 8" cuts. Perfect for the scroll saw but turned it down which I kicked myself for doing. All I needed was a mask, but hate masks.2 points -
Car Show - Scroll Saw Challenge
new2woodwrk reacted to Travis for a topic
One of the things I think about in August is the car shows. In my hometown, there would be a few official ones, which were fun. But there are also the pop-up shows that just appear at a restaurant parking lot on a Sunday afternoon. Usually some car club that meets up at a 50's diner, grab a burger, and then shows off their cars. I'd see one of those, pull over to look at the "fancy cars" (as my son called them). I kinda miss that this year. So how about we have our own car show? Post a pic of a scroll saw project featuring some sort of car, motorcycle, truck, military vehicle, bicycle, skateboard, or whatever. As long as it has wheels! Looking for some inspiration? Check out our Transportation section in the Pattern Library. When you post, share a memory of a vehicle you loved. My first car was a 1983 Silver Camaro. It was only a V6, but it looked fast. And a highschooler with a Camero wasn't a bad thing to have. We have a ton of great car patterns in the Pattern Library: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/category/19-transportation/1 point -

Goofy Homemade Stand For My Laser
Phantom Scroller reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
Well, i did my first run on it today.. just practicing..and this image was the only thing that I had on my old laptop that would work on the program so I ran it.. ( too lazy to come in the house to get a different image, LOL ) Took some tweaking to get it to run decent.. the mirrors as way outta wack.. once things was tuned properly it seemed to work quite well.. Here is a couple short clips made into one video of it running and a finished engraving photo at the end..1 point -
Very pretty! Nice score too! Around here I sometimes manage to score a little free walnut! That is due to the amount of walnut trees around here.1 point
