    Jackpot!

Yesterday a lady at the fair board told me of another contest in Memorial Hall that I should enter. So I checked it out and took two pieces out of my window to enter in two separate categories. When the judging was done I placed 1st for one entry and 2nd place for the other!!! This is fun, I'll have to do a couple new super pieces for next year.

  2. Someone asked in the pattern request section the other night for a Shelby clock pattern.. I found a coloring page and sort of made a crappy pattern of one.. crappy meaning I didn't clean up the design and make it a actual pattern.. I do this myself quite often and don't typically share the patterns because they are not cleaned up.. no bridges and floaters and all.. I just modify the cut as I'm cutting.. takes too long to clean up a design to make it a actual pattern, LOL I don't consider myself a designer because of the lack of clean-up etc.. I just throw it together and cut.. LOL Anyway, I posted this in the pattern request and decided to cut it myself yesterday.. Got the photos and a listing up on the website today.. Cut from 5/8 Cherry on the Excalibur with a number 3 Pegas MG blade.. Not my best but not my worst work. LOL Enjoy the photos..

    Florida

OK, tried to do something different. Was looking to do something that would look good in a beach house here on the East Coast of Florida. The pattern was pieced to gether from a number of patterns and and silhouettes, and some hand drawn additions. Top and bottom layer is 1/8" BB plywood. Most cuts made with a #1 Sharktooth reverse blade. The top board was partially stained with an Expesso stain and the collored areas done with acrylic craft paints. I don't pretend to be an artist and the painting took forever as I found it was necessary to paint the vertical cut edges as the unpainted edges looked terrible. This was one pain in the.... Touch upafter touch up was necessary as I do not have steady hands and I would miss spots. Hanging on a wall and viewed from 10 feet or so, it is not too bad, but up close...not so much. Good thing it is cartoonish and not meant to be serious art. I think the White frame I picked uo at Hobby Lobby helped a lot.

  5. Here is my attempt at the 3D sunfish. I tried to make it look more like a real sunfish/bluegill with watercolor than Homer and Carol Bishop's example. Comments welcome. God Bless! Spirithorse

    Busy Week

Along with the Jolly Roger -- this is how my week went so far -- It's what happens when family wants things made lol. Most of this is for my sister and niece - my sister's name is Cheri and she's a math teacher - so I made a black cherry Pi -- All of it is Baltic birch ply 1/8 1/4 and 3/8 -- The big round is 24 across -- the Pi is 3/4

    Pegas v Olson blades

I have only purchased the Olson blades for a mate. I do know they are miles better than the other "Brands" available in Hardware shops. I got mine from the Wooden Teddy Bear along with an order of non pinned blades and other items. https://woodenteddybear.com/collections/all-blades/products/pinned-blades

  11. This is the extent of my "wheels" projects so far. Lately, with the Arizona heat, I haven't been in the shop at all, so I have to post what I have done in the past. I hope that's okay.

  12. The original drawing is by Ovid Creasy. I selectively stained the wood with slightly different stains to darken the water. The wood had a natural "flaw" through the center right where I needed it.

  13. Great CUTS .. now .. a story about those yay-whoooo's ... I was sitting in a saloon in Juneau, Alaska - back in the late 70's .. when two of these OUTLAWS .. walked in .. they would not play for us .. and it was very late .. and everyone was having just a good enuf time .. that no one cared that they didn't play - but they bought a round for the 20 or so of us in there. One of them .. forget which - pulls out a pistol and puts 3 rounds thru the ceiling. My buddy Ron lived right upstairs .. he comes flying down - and wants to beat the crap out of whoever did that .. the 3 rounds went right between him and the TV set he was watching at the time. We all pointed towards the two OUTLAWS .. which bought Ron's drinks for the rest of the night. So - the usual nightly brawl failed to happen. When I woke up the next morning (uh - afternoon - 'cause back then bars closed at 5:30am and opened again at 6:00am ) I went out to put some fishing gear in my camper shell as I was supposed to be guiding someone fishing that day - opened the shell - and out jumps a local that had decided to sleep it off in the back of my truck. I lived about 20 miles out of town - so - he had a good ways to go to get back home. I don't think Ron woke up that day. He took full advantage of having his drinks for free that evening. But - back on track - GREAT CUTTING !!!!

    New Chair

I've tried various things at my saw. Chairs, Stools, swivel stool, stools with bars for your feet, etc, etc. However, nothing seemed to fit me. They either made my back ache or my neck ache. Well, I had this old chair from when I had my corner in Tony's workshop. It had just a board fastened across the arms and I found it comfy, but, my saw is now in my new workshop and the bench is slightly higher in there, so.! We improvised and Tony came up with this... It's perfect !! I find that being able to stand + sit at the same time is so, so comfy. I have just used my saw for a good couple of hours and nothing aches. !! Now I'll grant you it wouldn't win a prize for the best looking seat in the world but I love it..

    Cutting chess pieces

To help eliminate burning, I use clear packing tape on top of the pattern and all sides of the blank.

  37. FD UR is a reverse blade and that is what is causing the burning. A blade like FD Polar is not reverse and cleans out the kerf with less burning. I used FD Polar for years on compound cutting. I now use Pegas Skip blades, especially number 7.

    Adhesion Problem

I often use Scotch Tape also. Keep a roll mounted by the saw. After taping, OSHA would hang me if they saw how close to the blade I put a finger to hold the taped piece down. Could use a craft stick, but I like living on the edge. jerry

  47. Thanks for the replies. I was cutting 1/2" Poplar with a #1 Olson Blade, not a reverse tooth blade. I will experiment using a burnishing tool. It will apply much more direct pressure on the shelf liner. I'll experiment on some scrap. If that works, OK. It not I'll go back to painters tape on critical cuttings.

    Adhesion Problem

I have that problem often and I use blue painters tape and 3M 45 or 3M 77 spray and it still does it. I think it is more of a matter of there is not much sticking power when you get yo that small of a piece or some how dust is getting under the tape as you cut in tight areas. I have tried the shelf sticky stuff and had the same problem AND I have a roller! I do not use it all the time, but when I do,,, I have the same problem. I have just learned to live with it.
