  1. Thanks to Foxfold aka Brenda for furnishing the pattern. I'm probably the thousandth person to cut this pattern but I have admired it every time I saw it. 1/8" plastic laminated BB, #0 Pike blade, black card stock backer.

    Florida

OK, tried to do something different. Was looking to do something that would look good in a beach house here on the East Coast of Florida. The pattern was pieced to gether from a number of patterns and and silhouettes, and some hand drawn additions. Top and bottom layer is 1/8" BB plywood. Most cuts made with a #1 Sharktooth reverse blade. The top board was partially stained with an Expesso stain and the collored areas done with acrylic craft paints. I don't pretend to be an artist and the painting took forever as I found it was necessary to paint the vertical cut edges as the unpainted edges looked terrible. This was one pain in the.... Touch upafter touch up was necessary as I do not have steady hands and I would miss spots. Hanging on a wall and viewed from 10 feet or so, it is not too bad, but up close...not so much. Good thing it is cartoonish and not meant to be serious art. I think the White frame I picked uo at Hobby Lobby helped a lot.

  6. Here is my attempt at the 3D sunfish. I tried to make it look more like a real sunfish/bluegill with watercolor than Homer and Carol Bishop's example. Comments welcome. God Bless! Spirithorse

    Wedding Gift

A girl/woman who rode my school bus from K - 12th is getting married September 5th. She also has 2 years in the army now. The pattern is from Sheila Landry. Made out of birds eye maple. I added the pin and slot joints to make it stronger. Cut using #3 & #5 MG pegas blades.

    Jackpot!

Yesterday a lady at the fair board told me of another contest in Memorial Hall that I should enter. So I checked it out and took two pieces out of my window to enter in two separate categories. When the judging was done I placed 1st for one entry and 2nd place for the other!!! This is fun, I'll have to do a couple new super pieces for next year.

    Funny Giraffe

Is he laughing at the thinking Monkey? Nice work, but I'm curious, why such a big blade? I find the saw kerf on the 2/0 and 0 blades to be big. Have not experimented with the larger spiral blades yet.

    Pegas v Olson blades

Ask 10 scrollers and you will get 15 different answers. A lot of that is driven by the type of wood they use and the type of projects they like to work on. Personally I prefer Pegas for 80% of the work I do. The other 20% I use various Flying Dutchman blades. I have tries Olson and was not impressed. I know others that will only use Olson. My suggestion to you or any one else is try different brands, different sizes and different style teeth to see what works best for you.

    why do....

why do mistakes happen at the end of a project and not the beginning? I just spent over a hour on a word saying project only to have not only the last 2 letters break but also go fling off into never-never land!! I'm going to have to start from the beginning. That is after I calm down. Sorry just had to rant to somebody who would understand

    Pegas v Olson blades

Ive discussed this with a few friends over the years - Ive used about everything under the sun at one time or another . I use to like the flying dutchman brand - but they dropped my favorite blade because it was not popular - they told me another blade was better for the purpose I needed it for - He even told me i was wrong . I basically told him , you have your opinions and i have mine - but for my needs the discontinued blade was better for me . Ive talked to Olson blades - Even meet with a Rep for Pegas blades , and the Hegner company . Ive been threw this about 4 or 5 times - when something i like has been either changed or dropped , one saw likes this blade another likes another . So its apples and oranges - i have a box with so many different brands , sizes etc -it would make your head spin . Honestly one saw hates pegas another loves them -same with Olson blades - I would tell you at this moment my favorite brand is Pegas - tomorrow - who knows ! Ive learned that they can change a blade at a moments notice -so when i find a blade i like -i buy a couple of years worth -

    why do....

One thing I have learned is that as I get towards the end of a project the tendency is to push a bit to get it done and usually with a dulling blade. Now no matter how close I am to the finish, if the blade doesn't follow the line as normal or I find myself pushing. STOP and put in a new blade. It does two things I makes you re focus and also better control with the sharp blade.

    Adhesion Problem

This is why I changed glues from loc Tite to 3m #45. I,d have to use a pencil on cuts like your talking about way to often.

    Pegas v Olson blades

I have only purchased the Olson blades for a mate. I do know they are miles better than the other "Brands" available in Hardware shops. I got mine from the Wooden Teddy Bear along with an order of non pinned blades and other items. https://woodenteddybear.com/collections/all-blades/products/pinned-blades
