    Apostle clock

Took two and a half months 2 cans spray glue, 1 roll blue tape and I lost count on how many blades. It has mistakes in it but I think it turned out pretty good. Still have to add the movement.

I like hunting for quality wood like cutting boards, bread box's,tissue boxes etc. I picked up for $3 a nice tissue box for making the manager of Winn Dixie 2 projects.don,t know what kind of wood it is but it looks real nice.he wants car dash board stand up names. Cut with Denny's blades #3.cut like a dream and very precise .the bases are areo matic cedar 1/8". Thanks for looking.glad I found something to do finally. One of the angels is broken I guess that's why so cheap but they are low price anyway on brick a brack.

    Wedding Gift

A girl/woman who rode my school bus from K - 12th is getting married September 5th. She also has 2 years in the army now. The pattern is from Sheila Landry. Made out of birds eye maple. I added the pin and slot joints to make it stronger. Cut using #3 & #5 MG pegas blades.

  9. The original drawing is by Ovid Creasy. I selectively stained the wood with slightly different stains to darken the water. The wood had a natural "flaw" through the center right where I needed it.

    Pegas v Olson blades

Ive discussed this with a few friends over the years - Ive used about everything under the sun at one time or another . I use to like the flying dutchman brand - but they dropped my favorite blade because it was not popular - they told me another blade was better for the purpose I needed it for - He even told me i was wrong . I basically told him , you have your opinions and i have mine - but for my needs the discontinued blade was better for me . Ive talked to Olson blades - Even meet with a Rep for Pegas blades , and the Hegner company . Ive been threw this about 4 or 5 times - when something i like has been either changed or dropped , one saw likes this blade another likes another . So its apples and oranges - i have a box with so many different brands , sizes etc -it would make your head spin . Honestly one saw hates pegas another loves them -same with Olson blades - I would tell you at this moment my favorite brand is Pegas - tomorrow - who knows ! Ive learned that they can change a blade at a moments notice -so when i find a blade i like -i buy a couple of years worth -

I was wondering if any of you have tried using ceiling fan blades for scroll work. I replaced a ceiling fan this summer and kept the 5 very nice looking blades.

Charlie another really well executed piece. I’d say that the backer makes Waylon pop out. That backer looks fantastic on this cut.

  36. Nobody has mentioned that you might be very smart to see if there is an upgrade to your saw to allow you to use pinless blades. Being stuck with only pin end blades you can't get any of the very tiny blades that will allow you to get in tight places. No matter what brand you end up with, if you can convert to pinless blades and then get sample packs from the 3 top suppliers, you'll be able to figure it out for yourself. The projects that you cut and the wood type that you use will dictate which blade tooth design is best also. But until you can switch to pinless blades, you are really limiting yourself in many ways. Best of luck in what you choose to do.

  38. I prefer TAP...but than again, I prefer BEER !

    Birdie on a Spigot

Yep a TAP is for dispensing beer and FAUCET is what dispenses water into a sink...this is really a HOSE COCk...the plumbing term for that thing that sticks out the side of a foundation or on top of a yard hydrant that you attach the hose to. I agree, spigot is an old word that is not much in use these days.

    Birdie on a Spigot

On this side of the pond a tap dispenses beer. I think faucet is used perhaps more than spigot. I'm just old fashioned.

    Florida

OK, tried to do something different. Was looking to do something that would look good in a beach house here on the East Coast of Florida. The pattern was pieced to gether from a number of patterns and and silhouettes, and some hand drawn additions. Top and bottom layer is 1/8" BB plywood. Most cuts made with a #1 Sharktooth reverse blade. The top board was partially stained with an Expesso stain and the collored areas done with acrylic craft paints. I don't pretend to be an artist and the painting took forever as I found it was necessary to paint the vertical cut edges as the unpainted edges looked terrible. This was one pain in the.... Touch upafter touch up was necessary as I do not have steady hands and I would miss spots. Hanging on a wall and viewed from 10 feet or so, it is not too bad, but up close...not so much. Good thing it is cartoonish and not meant to be serious art. I think the White frame I picked uo at Hobby Lobby helped a lot.

    Pegas v Olson blades

Ask 10 scrollers and you will get 15 different answers. A lot of that is driven by the type of wood they use and the type of projects they like to work on. Personally I prefer Pegas for 80% of the work I do. The other 20% I use various Flying Dutchman blades. I have tries Olson and was not impressed. I know others that will only use Olson. My suggestion to you or any one else is try different brands, different sizes and different style teeth to see what works best for you.

Well done again Gary. Congratulations mate. Sadly, there are no shows I can enter in within cooee of home. My father, however, has won quite a few ribbons for his woodwork in the "Blind crafts" section of our WA Royal Show.

  50. You could cut a triple stack of 1/8 with a #1 blade with a lot more control than a single 1/8 (#1 modified geometry is my go to blade -- my last couple pieces I cut 3/4 and 1" with it)-- and yes cutting with a duller blade does help with control but not so much at the 1/8 level. You could also try a 2/0 (even those I at least double stack even if I'm just wasting a piece) -- I will usually cut the longer easier cuts until the blade has the edge dulled a bit -- then go in for the delicate ones -- however - slowing the blade speed down doesn't always help with control. In fact I think I've turned my speed away from maximum twice only. Both times I turned it back up as soon as the blade dulled a bit. The thing to control is the speed you feed the wood into the blade. I have found high speed blade - slow feed into the blade works best for me -- slow is smooth - smooth is fast Also there is an alternative -- nobody knows what it's supposed to look like so you could always go with round ports there or a pair of rectangular ones -- change it up to what's possible for you to do rather than fight it until you get better at the control (practice practice practice). It is a very nice piece but it also has potential to be altered in certain ways that can make it your own instead of a copy and with less frustration
