    Self Portrait

Decided I needed an updated self portrait. I have a different saw and a lot more wrinkles. This is the first picture I have matted using 1/8" Baltic Birch. I cheated with photo shop and removed some labels that I wouldn't be able to scroll.

  2. After a fairly craptacular weekend, I needed to create something that didn't fall apart or...worse. Cut most of this Sunday afternoon/evening, and finished up this afternoon after work. 2x4 ripped down to 1.5x1.5, used several #3 and #5 Pegas MG blades. Stained "Weathered Oak", but depending on how it looks once dried, I may re-stain it Provincial. Dunno what I'm going to do with it. Just needed something to go right-ish.

I was working on a wedding sign for a customer last night. When I noticed my shop cat trying to decide which blade I should use next!

I had forgot that a couple of you who helped me find the font I needed asked to see the finished project. It is pictured below. It was a real hit and I have received 4 orders from people who were at the wedding and saw this sign!

    Wedding Gift

A girl/woman who rode my school bus from K - 12th is getting married September 5th. She also has 2 years in the army now. The pattern is from Sheila Landry. Made out of birds eye maple. I added the pin and slot joints to make it stronger. Cut using #3 & #5 MG pegas blades.

    Apostle clock

Took two and a half months 2 cans spray glue, 1 roll blue tape and I lost count on how many blades. It has mistakes in it but I think it turned out pretty good. Still have to add the movement.

  14. Thanks to Foxfold aka Brenda for furnishing the pattern. I'm probably the thousandth person to cut this pattern but I have admired it every time I saw it. 1/8" plastic laminated BB, #0 Pike blade, black card stock backer.

Gotta love our pets. I'd love to take my cat out to the shop but I'm sure she'd disappear on me and I'd have to go looking. She loves to sit on my desk and watch Nascar though.

Very nice! A different take on it. Here are a couple I've done. In fact I'm working on one right now. It's like the top photo, for a wedding the 10th.

    Fan Blades

I was wondering if any of you have tried using ceiling fan blades for scroll work. I replaced a ceiling fan this summer and kept the 5 very nice looking blades.

  22. The original drawing is by Ovid Creasy. I selectively stained the wood with slightly different stains to darken the water. The wood had a natural "flaw" through the center right where I needed it.

  23. Oh .. another funny story about one of these "outlaws" ... Johnny - I think - wrote a song about this or mentioned it in a song .. later in his career .. My Uncle was a jailer down in Mississippi - and at night - the jailer was also the cop on duty. Jails in those days - were usually pretty much empty - except for some people that liked to close down the local "watering holes". I think this was Tupelo, or Merridian Mississippi. They get a call - a naked guy singing very poorly - and picking the flowers - and if nothing else - could you please just get him to quit singing? It's keeping my animals awake. Well - Uncle didn't have to go far - he stepped outside and there was the naked guy singing his heart out .. very poorly as described - and picking the flowers that bordered the lawn leading up to the cop-shop and jail. Uncle took him in - thru him in a cell - and decided he was too naked and maybe he'd go to sleep quickly and stop that racket described as singing. When his shift reliefs got there in the morning, he proceeded to tell them they needed to get some clothes for the soul in the cells and either book him or let him go depending on his attitude when he woke up. So they all went back with him to see the peacefully sleeping naked gentleman. One copper says to the other coppers - "hell - that's that Johnny Cash guy. I went to see him play just last night." He woke up a few later and was picked up, never to visit the jail again. He did not get booked, by the way. But did pay a fine that covered the cost of the clothes he was given. You can pick flowers at the jail in Tupelo when you're naked. But - it's against the law to sing poorly in public. hahahahahaha

Awesome job Dave!! Fantastic pattern, cut beautifully. I'd do one of myself...but it would probably break the saw

Great work Les. I'm with marg on this one up this way it would a tap also. But anything that dispenses liquid is a tap up here. Turn tap and put some water in the sink, beer is on tap, turn on the tap for the garden hose etc. Lolol

    Pegas v Olson blades

Im not disagreeing with you -i think they are plated ,maybe titanium -my guess( not sure ) they have a brassy color to them -yes they break easier than most ( especially the fine ones ) but one of my saws loves them -they seem to stay sharper longer but the larger sizes like the #9 do not seem as sharp as the Olsen blades - confusing isnt it !

  45. Very nice. I often put a light coloured stain over the burnt wood, I like the effect that gives.

  46. I love using the 2/0 Pegas spirals. It took a little getting used to, but I would never go back to using anything else for non-linear cutting.

  48. Old Joe .. I am just putting up mine .. yours was an inspiration - and - I made mine to give to a friend that LOVES guitars like I do. They look awfully close to yours .. hahahaha .. I didn't do the heart thing, yet .. as I was making them gifts .. However - it's coming - and now I'm thinking .. I will send a picture of that one to Danny Sorentino when I finish it - he has a song from The Sorentinos .. I LOVE GUITARS ..

  49. Ditto on removing the hold down piece! It is more of a hindrance than a help! Unless the laws have been changed in other countries, the U.S. is the only country that requires that this hold down part has to be added to the saw whether it is manufactured here or overseas. It is supposedly a safety item required by Osha! Anyway we have to use our hands to hold down the material and move it around to cut so the hold down is not needed! This is just my 2 cents worth! Erv
