Screaming Eagle Is all 1/8" BB ply and loose set into a Pine custom made 11X14 frame. The original artist is unknown and the cut was made using a photo of another cutting. I really like the Screaming Eagle design but wish I could find a real pattern as the results of cutting from a photo is poor and there is some distortion. My cutting using spiral blades for the flag areas was a mistake as it is raggered at best. I decided to add color to the flag and had the cutting been better I think adding color to the flag was a good idea. The raggered cutting was not quite as evident untill the color was added. Will probably hang this somewhere in the workshop to remind me to be more careful on blade selection. The Eagle Feather is cut from 3/8" thk solid Oak over a 1/8" BB ply backer and mounted of a painted black backer and fixed into a custom made 16X8 Oak frame. Pattern from Steve Good's Scrollsaw Workshop website.9 points

MOONLIGHT DRIVE: I thought I'd get myself a new set of wheels, so I went into my shop and fired up my scrollsaw (after making the pattern) and came up with this little doozy of a vehicle. Sure I can't drive it around (but where am I going to go during this pandemic anyway), but I can dream. Free pattern of this vehicle.5 points

I did a bunch of cuts this week. The cuts came out OK but the staining, not so good I won't be staining these anymore and will be trying the Mineral Oil bath thing. No clue what happened to the Poodle and the Penguin, but boy did they come out crappy - samples only now I guess. Leo and Papillon came out fair The Manatee came out the best I think - the only one I didn't stain... I did a bunch of framed cuts also, I'll post once their mounted and finished Thanks as always in advance for reading4 points -

I would like to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to, one of our own, Dennis Knappen or Artcrafters in Dayton, Tn. Here is a litle reason why. As I have mentioned before I am still a newbie and only been here in SSV a few months now. When I first started to do scroll saw work I did a lot of research about things like Pattterns, Blades, Wood, etc., which led me to a number of websites that sold such Items. When I needed Bldes, I ordered some from a number of different sites. What I could not understand was why it took over 10 days before they shipped and then stipulated there was a 16 day shipping window. Found another site that did better, but was from Canada. They took 3 or 4 days to process the orderr and then it was still well over a week in the mail and, of course, they charged shipping fees. I was introduced to Dennis through one of the posts hereon where they discussed the Pegas Saw and how he was able to provide a good cost on the 21" Pegas. So I contacted Dennis and upgraded through him.....the price was very good and I'm very happy. Recently received an advertising E-mail from Dennis offering a good deal on some small twist bits and offering free shipping with a min $35 order. I happen to be looking for some small bits and visited his Artcrafters Website to check out the bits and some blades I was wanting to order. I placed my order Last Sunday and my oder arrived today. Considering it was just shipped USPS first class, that is what I call great service. THANK YOU DENNIS. Would love you to make free shipping for orders over $35 on blades and such a standard on your site (at least for SSV members).3 points

Another sawdust compound cut
amazingkevin and 2 others reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Did another one. Tried gluing up the sides separately this time, instead of creasing down the middle and folding it over the edge of the wood. On the plus side, it allowed me to center the cuts on the face so that the top and bottom edges were equal. On the ...middle? neither-good-nor-bad... side, I had to make sure the ends were lined up. On the downside, to avoid having a bunch of spray glue all over my fingers, I used one of my daughter's gluesticks....which does NOT hold worth a [[expletive]]. Stain is Minwax "Dark Walnut".3 points -

It's a tremendous bargain for $125. I have, exactly, that saw and would not accept less than $1,000 for it. It's a great saw that I have used extensively for 16 years and I have no problems in getting the (very few) parts that I needed for it.2 points -

That phrase, "if looks could kill".....yeah. Gluestick wasn't the problem. Applying the glue wasn't the problem. Watching the pattern peel up and start flapping around like a politician in a compromising situation.....yeah. I may have used some of my golf-words.2 points -
Hey Frank, I think you are talking about some of us who have the same information on our posts that appear at the bottom each time we make a post. For instance here on mine, I have my real first name, Melanie, which Is in orange, then tells what saws I use, I have my name there so folks know what to call me. My saws listed so you know what I use. Then on a second line, again in Orange, it says Go Big Orange! Vol for Life! (Both of which are showing my love for my University of Tennessee Volunteers. ) dgman, Dan, has his name and location, “Dan in So Ca” and then his Etsy site’s address link. if that is what you are referring to, it is the “signature” which can be added by going to your account, then account settings, then choosing “signature” and adding what you want there. You can’t put a photo, and there are some other limits on what you can have as well.2 points

This is why I use all three of the brands mentioned.. I love the Pegas for the majority of my work.. However the FD and Olsen also in certain cases outshine the Pegas.. in my shop.. all the brands of blades are in stock.. I must have about 35 storage tubes of blades..2 points

I checked with them. They only supply a paper copy in B&W lines and shaded areas. IK ordersd some and will scan them into my PC for safe keeping. I found some really advanced cuts that I might try.1 point

Probably worth it if everything is working order.. There is also one of these on Craigslist here in MI for $1001 point

That saw was made by Summerville Designs in Canada, who also designed and built the DeWALT type 1. If it is in good working order, it might be worth the $125. Keep in mind, it had been out of production for about twenty years, so there are no replacement parts available. I can’t tell by the picture, but does it have a motor? If it had a motor it might be worth it. If not, you have to factor that.1 point

Nice work. Perhaps someone here will know where to send you for the real pattern on the screaming eagle. It seems I have seen it somewhere but have no idea where and I wouldn't have downloaded it so I don't have it to look and see. This may be it perhaps: https://woodenteddybear.com/collections/military-patriotic/products/tbp2685-screaming-eagle-in-flag1 point

I agree with Kevin. I have except that I am down to primarily 2 brands. The Olson and the Pegas. I do use an occasional FD puzzle blade. As others have said try them All you will eventually find your comfort blades. Smitty definitely consider upgrading your saw to pinless blades.1 point

Well I never knew there was a 'Durham' in the usa, for a moment I thought you meant you were born here in the UK . You learn something new every day.1 point

I mainly use Olson (about 75%) and have for over 35 years on my RBI and Excalibur. I try to use the PGT blades as often as i can, However, I have used Flying Dutchman and for certain applications they are fine also. I have never tried Pegas blades. I have no need to try them either or any other. I am quite satisfied with my choices. PS I am no expert on blades by any means. I just know what works for me after 35 years.1 point

Love your boxes Jim. Now that I have a lot more experience on the scroll saw I need to try that again. When I first saw them, almost a year ago, I had just got a WEN scroll saw and was trying to figure the whole "scrolling" thing out.1 point -

Nobody has mentioned that you might be very smart to see if there is an upgrade to your saw to allow you to use pinless blades. Being stuck with only pin end blades you can't get any of the very tiny blades that will allow you to get in tight places. No matter what brand you end up with, if you can convert to pinless blades and then get sample packs from the 3 top suppliers, you'll be able to figure it out for yourself. The projects that you cut and the wood type that you use will dictate which blade tooth design is best also. But until you can switch to pinless blades, you are really limiting yourself in many ways. Best of luck in what you choose to do.1 point -

Most of these would require that you add some bridges but, here are some fonts to look up and consider. I would use and have used Script MT Bold on several occasions. Script MT Bold is my first choice. Brush Script MT Cursive Elegant Lucida Handwriting French Script MT Edwardian Script Palace Script MT Good luck with your project, I hope you show us the completed work, and God Bless!
