Bamboo Bomber In 1939 Cessna Aircraft starting to produce the model T-50 twin engine, 5 place, fabric covered transport aircraft. Its original intent was to compete with Beech Aircraft’s Twin Beech 18 at a lower price. When WWII broke out, it was enlisted as an executive trans port and trainer and went through a series of different designations including AT-17 and UC-78. The majority of production aircraft operated with dual Jacobs R-775-9 radial engines and had an operational range of about 650m. Over 4,500 were produced under various versions. The original name of the aircraft was the “Bobcat” but later many pilots dubbed it the Bamboo Bomber because of its wood and fabric construction. The aircraft is most recognizable for being in the 1950’s T.V. series Sky King. The intro of the series "Out of the blue of the Western sky comes Sky King!" and his aircraft the “Songbird” flying across the screen inspired a lot of kids of that time to get into aviation7 points

John Lennon
leshko and 2 others reacted to OzarkSawdust for a topic
I finished "John Lennon" the other day but just finished the frame and mounted it this morning. I'll put it on the website...but hope I get to keep it on the wall for a while. Fish passed me the pattern and I cut it on 1/4" Oak veneer with Pegas #1MG then shot it with spray Lacquer. I made the frame from Poplar spray painted black and cut black matboard for the backer.3 points -

AARGGH! Another Broken Piece!
Tomanydogs and 2 others reacted to Rolf for a topic
I use a 240 grit mac mop on all of my fine sanding. including very delicate Christmas ornaments. The trick for me is I hold them on a flat piece of wood for support and the gently kiss the areas I want to sand. gently is the key word. by using a backer you are not stressing the work. I am not a fan of the Guinevere system as is, it should be variable speed.3 points -

Cleaning up
heppnerguy and one other reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Decided that I had too many projects sitting around, taped up and pilot holes drilled, waiting for a blade, and I'd keep putting another cool project on top of the stack to work on next. They were doing nothing but catching dust, so I put all the other projects on hold and started cutting these. Two are Sam Custodio patterns (the round 2nd Amendment and the round trivet/optical illusion), the word-within-word is one of mine. Found some fragile spots (center of the "P" and "R", and the "o" in storms) while sanding. The "o" glued back okay, but the "R" didn't want to glue straight no matter what I did. 3/4" whiteboard on all three patterns, really soft wood so it wasn't really a surprise to have a couple of breaks. Just be careful while sanding, or use harder wood. Or both. #3 and #5 Pegas MG blades. Not a bad way to spend a weekend.2 points -

From the abilities I’ve seen you have. You are underestimating yourself. If you put your mind to it I’m sure you could fly to the moon and cut 1” wood.2 points -
Compound Cutting
NC Scroller and one other reacted to stoney for a topic
I have made Hundreds of compound Christmas ornaments and use a clamp exclusively. I generally apply pattern and then cover the whole piece with packing tape. I have strips of course sandpaper glued to inside edges of the clamp so I don't have to apply a lot of pressure to prevent slippage. I find this method to be quite efficient. For those that cut patterns that have lines that come right to the edge I would suggest use a little larger piece or leave a gap in the sandpaper.2 points -
MOONLIGHT DRIVE: I thought I'd get myself a new set of wheels, so I went into my shop and fired up my scrollsaw (after making the pattern) and came up with this little doozy of a vehicle. Sure I can't drive it around (but where am I going to go during this pandemic anyway), but I can dream. Free pattern of this vehicle.2 points

Thanks Brenda! I'm just finishing his pattern of Stevie Ray Vaughan. I'll probably make a frame for it.1 point -
Atlantic puffin

Nice! Those were also the reason behind all the little "porg" (or however its spelled) birds on Luke Skywalker's island in The Force Awakens....those things were everywhere on the island, and instead of editing them out of the film, they found it easier to "convert" the puffin's into those alien bird guys.1 point -

Both look great! Who did the pattern for the bird? I've seen that cutting mentioned not long ago but don't remember seeing who made the pattern. The frame looks great. My first didn't look that tight, but I was trying to figure it out on my own. Then I watched some You Tube videos and my second and third were better.1 point -

pin vise
John B reacted to NC Scroller for a topic
I put a Jacob's Chuck in my drill press. I believe it is a #32. It is a key type chuck. It hold everything from 0 to 3/8" so no need for a pin vise or any other adaptor.1 point -

I sure miss our local car shows. Lately I'm stuck on designing cars and aircrafts. My wife will put the pictures in sketch mode in PhotoShop and I'll clean them up in MS 3D paint. I like the '30's, 40's and '50's cars and ones that are unique or one offs. The clean up can take a few days (I'm a nitnoid)1 point

Ohhh Boy... I'm looking forward to this one.. Only thing is.. I need to pick one or maybe a few of my car projects since I have over 60 car clocks listed on various websites not to mention puzzles, portraits and ornaments.. I'm going to have to think about what ones have the best story to go along with them.. I guess since you said your first car was a 83 Camaro.. I'll start with one of those, LOL.. I'll think about something personal and post it along with a story behind it I suppose..1 point
