    The Gardian

Me and my spiral bades got together again to produce this 11" x 14" Charles Hand Pattern having 260 holes. Both layers 5/32" thick solid core ply (top maple, bottom walnut stained a deep walnut). Pegas 2/0 spiral blades throught out except for a Pegas #5 MGT for the lower area perrimeter straight line edge cut hidden under frame. Panel finished with multiple coats of high gloss lacquar and installed loose fit in a store bought frame. Managed to do all the cutouts with only one minor break through between adjacent cuts. I actually found I could stay on the lines fairly well. Of course, there are really no smooth line cuts so who will know the difference anyway. Cutting time overall around 12 hours, but most of that time was used threading the blade through the holes. Of course I did use about 15 blades as the threading would oftern kink the blade and then, within one or two more cuts, "snap" another blade breaks.

  3. No backer yet but I like how this sign is turning out. It's about 12"X16". I bought the wood at Hobby Lobby. I didn't really care for how it cut. It's Basswood and is very soft which for me makes it easier to mess up. I like cutting Oak. We'll be hanging it on the front porch. If you want the pattern I can point you in the right direction. It's from an Etsy Shop called Buzzcutz. The shop owner also has a shop called Wallcutz where she sells stencils. I bought the image but asked if she could send me the stencil image as it would make a good scroll saw pattern and she did. Happy fall ya'll!

For my nephew. Had a piece of maple I've been saving for a special occasion so I used it as the base. Didn't even have to cut it

  5. Made these as a gift for my mum and dad, both Steve good patterns. I had some oak worktop left over from my kitchen so used it up. first attempt at a clock i think it turned out ok, Also added a stand to the Mother rose as it was quite fragile. Finished with danish oil and 3 coats of clear varnish.

  7. I am 3/4 done with my second peace, using my $25 used Ryobi and had to stop. Between the Ryobi vibrating and my tremors it was just to difficult. So I ordered a DeWalt 788. I cannot wait for it to get here! I have been on the fence between a Quality scroll saw or a printer. The printer is no good to me if I don’t have a decent scroll saw. I have gotten some very nice stencils and templates on the Internet. You will be seeing what I can do with these in bragging rights. NoW I am waiting for delivery of something that has not shipped yet.

  12. I know there are many aspects/topics to scroll sawing. but one thing I find common among them is the term "Fun Cut". So I ask, what does that mean to you? How do you identify if a cut was "fun"? I think for me, a fun cut is any one I can get to final finishing without breaking is a "fun cut". However, my favorite thing to cut at the moment are Dragons. I really like cutting them! You? Thoughts? Thanks in advance

    Cleaning up

Decided that I had too many projects sitting around, taped up and pilot holes drilled, waiting for a blade, and I'd keep putting another cool project on top of the stack to work on next. They were doing nothing but catching dust, so I put all the other projects on hold and started cutting these. Two are Sam Custodio patterns (the round 2nd Amendment and the round trivet/optical illusion), the word-within-word is one of mine. Found some fragile spots (center of the "P" and "R", and the "o" in storms) while sanding. The "o" glued back okay, but the "R" didn't want to glue straight no matter what I did. 3/4" whiteboard on all three patterns, really soft wood so it wasn't really a surprise to have a couple of breaks. Just be careful while sanding, or use harder wood. Or both. #3 and #5 Pegas MG blades. Not a bad way to spend a weekend.

  22. Not into gadgets and things to entertain the mind from thrift shops any more. I like hunting for quality wood like cutting boards, bread box's,tissue boxes etc. I picked up for $3 a nice tissue box for making the manager of Winn Dixie 2 projects.don,t know what kind of wood it is but it looks real nice.he wants car dash board stand up names. Cut with Denny's blades #3.cut like a dream and very precise .the bases are areo matic cedar 1/8". Thanks for looking.glad I found something to do finally. One of the angels is broken I guess that's why so cheap but they are low price anyway on brick a brack.

  23. You’re not supposed to spray your thumb Kevin! I have no idea about the whether Kevin as we never, or hardly ever have freezing whether. My current can of 3M 77 is almost empty. In fact, I have been expecting it to Peter out for weeks now But keeps on ticking. I spray my patterns on a pizza box sitting on my work bench. We do pizza ever Friday, so I always have a box to spray on. As long as I wipe off the nozzle after every use, it will keep spraying until it empty.

  24. I turn upside down and spray until it cleans out the glue in the suction system and also wipe off the nozzle.. I still get a clogged up nozzle before the can is empty.. Possibly something to do with the climate we have? as the same thing happens to spray paint cans if they are left out in the unheated shop.. No biggy to me because I like the peel and stick so much better than the spray anyway.. even if the can would work all the way until it's empty I'd still choose the labels.. I know it's not for everyone just as the spray isn't for me.. It's messy.. My thumb gets sticky adhesive all over it then my finger print ready on all my devices won't read my print to unlock them etc etc.. so for me.. it's peel and stick labels..

  26. I think this is a pattern by Charles Dearing. https://woodenvisions.com/shop/john-wayne-rooster-cogburn-on-a-horse/ If you are a big John wayne fan he has it in a book of 4. https://woodenvisions.com/product-category/books/john_wayne/

  27. I use 3m Mount Spray, but I've used other 'repositional' craft sprays to great effect. I spray onto my pattern and place directly onto my wood. When finished I wipe with a little white spirit and my pattern fall off in one piece no matter how delicate. If you do puzzles I know that Scott Sieffer has a video on here somewhere about how he prepares to cut his puzzles and what he uses. @Iguanadon

    Bamboo Bomber

Bamboo Bomber In 1939 Cessna Aircraft starting to produce the model T-50 twin engine, 5 place, fabric covered transport aircraft. Its original intent was to compete with Beech Aircraft’s Twin Beech 18 at a lower price. When WWII broke out, it was enlisted as an executive trans port and trainer and went through a series of different designations including AT-17 and UC-78. The majority of production aircraft operated with dual Jacobs R-775-9 radial engines and had an operational range of about 650m. Over 4,500 were produced under various versions. The original name of the aircraft was the “Bobcat” but later many pilots dubbed it the Bamboo Bomber because of its wood and fabric construction. The aircraft is most recognizable for being in the 1950’s T.V. series Sky King. The intro of the series "Out of the blue of the Western sky comes Sky King!" and his aircraft the “Songbird” flying across the screen inspired a lot of kids of that time to get into aviation

    Flat Sander - Sand Flea?

From my understanding the best way to flaten a board is the Jointer, then the planer. I have had a Sand flea since 2005, absolutely love it. But not for a larger or longer board. I have not seen any adds for it in a while?

  43. Love adding personalized names etc to the military clocks I make as well as the cars.. I've made a lot of personalized items for our service men / women and try to include a ornament themed toward the clock they ordered as a gift from me.. The thought of them being stationed out of the US away from family/friends and receiving these gifts I made makes a warm feeling in my heart.. It also puts a little $$ in my pocket with family buying these gifts for there military family / friends so it's a win win for me.. but money aside.. I really just enjoy doing this for them..

I would suggest you get hold of a 1/4" chuck of an old drill. Put a bolt in the end that screws onto the drill, cut the head of it and put it in your drill press or other drill. I have used one for years for the smaller bits.

I just use my Dremel that I have had for umteen years. One of the best little tools around for drilling tiny holes up to 1/8" and a multitude of other things like sanding, shaping, cutting etc. The accessories for it are endless. Worth the investment many times over.

It appears that the plate that the threaded rod goes through to tighten the chuck jaws is damaged, I have ordered a new pin vise from Amazon. Also got a collet set for the Dremel that will clamp the bits as a stop gap.
