    Firefighter emblem

Finished this piece up yesterday not a lot of scrolling to it but nice project to get a break from the outdoor furniture I been at most the summer. It's made from 1/2" plywood and roughly 21" around. Big thanks to my better half for painting it for including the lettering.

    Cell Phone Stand

This is not exactly scrolling so I didn't put in the bragging section. Things are a little slow so I just decided to post something. After scrolling for an hour or so both my eyes and butt get tired. I take a break and read a book on my cell phone. This is made from scraps and glued together with Titebone "Quick and Thick" adhesive. I think that's the name of the stuff. I may shoot it with a spray can of paint. Not meant to be pretty, just functional. The pegs, I'll round the tops.

    Love Stem Rose

This is a Wooden Teddy Bear pattern cut out of 1/4" solid core ply using a Pegas #1 MGT and a #1 Pegas spiral blade for the leaves. The Rose is painted with craft acylic paints. The backer is an 8x10 piece of 1/8" thk BB Ply stained with a clear stain. After the painted rose was glued to the backer the panel was finished with multiple coats of clear gloss lacquar. The panel is loose fit into a store bought frame and uses the cardboard backer with table stand that comes with the frame to hold the panel into the frame. It can, therefore, be a wall hanging or table displayed. This was a quick "fun cut" taking less than 2 hours. Painting and finishing was much more time consuming that the scroll work.

    New Top

My EX-16 cutting deck was getting tired looking and the vacuum holes were a pain. Several previous postings have suggested using a magnet sheet as an upgrade. My wife found a 5' x 24" sheet on Amazon for $26. For that price, why not. I took off the original deck and traced it out on the magnet sheet and cut it out with a utility knife and cut out the hole for the saw blade and laid it on the original deck. Waxed it up and it works like a champ! If it wears out, I have enough for plenty of replacements!

  6. Thanks to Kevin for giving me the image and confidence and help to make this - and - to the help everyone else gave out. So - my son got promoted and is now "the man" just under the owner of the company. So - he's still going out on calls in his truck - BUT - he's got a desk. I left space on one side in case he wants one of those pens you mount on name plates. Or his card holder. With the virus I have not been able to visit him or his work. So - here it is - and next up - a Dodge Challenger. I've put both patterns in the library up here. As with building fishing rods - I share all.

  7. I have one shadowbox Halloween pattern, this time I wanted to make one with "Happy Halloween" sign, but not only words, also with some elements, I think it came out nice. I know that you will say that it would be look much better with stains or different types of wood, but I give leave choosing colors to my customers. 8. Well I've created a monster. The wife is now scrolling and I hardly get anytime on my saw. She wanted to create a Halloween theme for her office and so, well I found patterns and she started cutting. Then she asked for more and started cutting. The she asked for puzzles and started cutting. And now, basically I'm on the computer and she's cutting! LOL Anyway, I did manage to get a few new of my own cuts in, here is a new dragon (drying) and a new Angel (both new to me) . \ Here also are the wifes new cuts. Halloween cuts, and a few puzzles she did. The cat and fish did not color very well, but I think she did a great job anyway. Thanks as always in advance for reading

    Stack cutting

Tried cutting this with some new thinner wood that I bought last week. A beautiful pattern done for me by @multitomNow, do I frame it like I did the Bird on a Tap or leave as is.Decisions, decisions Oh and because the wood was thinner, I tried cutting two together. That worked well.I do love what I do

    Old Loggerhead

The pattern was designed by Charles Hand. I cut this out of a 1/4 inch Mahogany panel purchased from Heritage Wood. It was cut using Flying Dutchman #3/0 spiral blades and Pégas #2/0 spiral blades. The piece has 312 holes according to Charles and it to me approximately 20 hours to cut. I intend to frame Old Loggerhead with a glass background similar to those I’m experimenting with in the two photos below: Unfortunately, none of the suitable glass that I have on hand is large enough. This is further complicated that the main shop where I used to obtain glass has gone out of business.

  11. You both did terrific jobs. I think a second saw is in order. That's how I got into scrolling, Terry got himself a Delta 16" and I asked how it worked, from then on I was never off it and he was never on it. That saw was a work horse. Marg

Nice work and well finished. Question: you refer to "solid core." Is that just three layers, one center layer with a veneer on each side? I'm just not familiar with the term

    Love Stem Rose

There are two patterns on one sheet from The Wodden Teddy Bear. I liked this one the best of the two. The other has the word LOVE as part of the stem also but in a script type font that you need to have the Rose horizontal in order to read it. I liked the simplicity of the single Rose, but without the addition of the color it just did not pop . Even using a contrasting backer, as most projects do, it was just tooooooo simple! Thanks

    Saw Maintenance?

Thanks, Yes it does. However, even though mine is a little loose the bolts and lock nuts are tight - I can't even loosen them they're so tight And like that thread, both my top and bottom arms are wobbly - however, I do know they've always been that way. I know this because I noticed it in the beginning when I first got the saw I notice also that the noise only happens when I am cutting

  38. Even with the labels I still use the Shelf liner... Though if your work isn't too fragile you can use a heat gun to loosen it off the wood directly.. but if the wood is not super smooth I've had cases of the labels not sticking real well.. the labels I use aren't super glue sticky like the spray glues are.. but they are way less messy in my opinion.. It's not real practical to use them if you just buy a few labels at a time from the store because they are pricey that way.. I buy them from the eBay link I posted earlier but he does sell smaller quantities and you can shop around to find a decent deal.. I came up with this by accident my first time.. as I use the labels to print m shipping labels and one day the printer had labels in it instead of regular paper.. been using them whenever possible ever since then, LOL.. I would buy a very small quantity first to see if you like them.. unless you have a use for them anyway..

  40. Hang in there, Kevin. keep knocking out the scroll work, it probably helps to keep you mind a little off your health issues. You are inspiring others to 'get out to their shops and make some sawdust' Dick heppnerguy

  42. I make toys, as you might have guessed. I also take lots of photos. I have made lots of cars and trucks. many of them one of a kind because I was experimenting with something or had a and interesting piece of wood that wasn't big enough to use with anything else. This toy was one of those. Check out the cores in this plywood.

  46. All of these great automotive cuttings are getting me motivated! Some beautiful work. I had Commissioned Charles Dearing back in 2007 to do a fretwork pattern of my car, maybe it is time for me to finally cut it. Actually I want to do an Intarsia version of it that I will design myself. All I need is time.

  47. I said I would post another one with a story to go along. This one is a throwback from many years ago (2006 to be exact). This is the third piece I’ve ever cut on a Scrollsaw. Back around 2007 ish a friend was over and we was going through some of the stuff I made and he seen this and had to have it. I gave it to him thinking I could make another and he just loved it. Then a few months later I was at his place and no sign of it anywhere so I asked him where he put it. He couldn’t remember it so I showed him this picture then he remembered that I gave it to him etc but he claims he don’t know what ever happen to it. His kids were big time brats and I suspect they got mad on his way home and they probably got mad and broke it. Needless to say I’ve never given him another piece since. He has bought many from me but never been given again. I rarely give anybody anything these days as free has no value to others so they care less about the hard work I put into making a piece. I do give as gifts for occasions but never to just give for the sake of giving. Shame that someone took that giving gratitude of mine away as lots of people could have enjoyed that. Lol Now the second half of the story is when I finally had the urge to make it again my hard drive that I stored patterns on crashed and I lost the pattern of this and of many other great patterns from back in the day. I do have the drawing of this as a icon but as soon as I enlarge it, it gets real pixelated so I’ve never made another.

  48. Here is one of my favorite toys. These little monsters are a bear to cut on a scroll saw. The body width is right at the limit of the scroll saw. It will remind you real quick where to keep your fingers.

  50. These are from the The Great All-American Wooden Toy Book by Norman Marshall published in 1986. I was also published in "Great Book of Wooden Toys" It's all old school as in you will need to make/enlarge patterns by hand. Some of the plans were also published in the Shopsmith Hands-On magazine. That is where I first encountered them. I need to make some more of these. I have a box of parts that I haven't used.
