Been wanting to do this project for a couple of years. With the covis stuff I felt now is a good time. It’s a 1925 Model T flat bed. Got the pattern from “Scroller Patterns & Supplies”. The truck is 15” x 7” tall. Used brass nails for the bolts in wheels and side boards. Went to internet and got a picture of the Texaco sign for pump. Made out of black walnut & red oak. Dip in 50/50 mix an let dry. I wanted it to look old so didn’t put any other finish on it. I added the brackets that the side boards go into. Wasn’t in plans but felt they were needed. Used #3 an #5 MG Pegas blades.8 points

Finally managed to finish the cuts I was working on this week. These are 4 first time cuts for me. The Rescue is thanks to @Iguanadon , this was his welcome gift to me when I first joined this forum. I didn't want to cut it until I could do it justice, hopefully it does. Thanks Iggy for everything! I did a few more puzzle cuts but I think I already posted them or they were dupes - altogether I cut and finished 13 puzzles this week - whew! The wife also finished some of her Halloween scaries. She still has a few more to post.. Thanks as always in advance for reading7 points -

Redneck Rally
amazingkevin and one other reacted to woodduck for a topic
I was asked to make this one as one of the prizes for the Riverina Redneck Rally to be held next March .It is 17.5 inches wide ,cut from 3mm ply with a 6mm backer.I used No 1 & 2/0 FD Silver Reverse Blades. I think the painting of this one took longer than the cutting but am quite happy with the result.Oh I forgot to mention that they wanted two so I stacked cut them but still have the second one to paint yet. The one dated 2020 is the transfer one that I took the pattern from2 points -

I've been getting orders like crazy for custom wording, business logos, etc. And now that I'm getting more comfortable with doing images with the laser engraver, these will be the new "standard" set I'll offer for my beach town and any others that I do events at in the future. I have 3 holiday markets in Nov/Dec so I'll be sure to have plenty on hand. Just more silly Iggy whackiness.2 points -

A cut that I has been in my "to do" pile for a while. Found the picture online a while back and made just a couple of changes. 1/4" BB with a 1/4" backer. I used an Olsen #2 reverse blade. I cut up a piece of 2"x4" for the frame. This is the first frame that I have made in over 10 years! I'm not very good at them so I tend to come up with other ideas instead of the normal frame. Burnt the frame a bit just because it's fun! Couple coats of clear. Made this one for me just to hang in the shop, gets lonely out there sometimes!2 points -
Do you use both straight and spiral blades?

I use both, sometimes on the same project. I think of them exactly like using two different tools and, with this attitude firmly entrenched, I don't seem to have any problems switching.2 points -

spirals on portraits. flat on all else. no problems with control switching between them. if a problem with hand control, slowing the saw speed down might help2 points -

Niqua is the manufacturer of the blades. They are marketed under the Flying Dutchman name in the US.2 points -

I use whatever is required to best make the project. Yes, that means sometimes using blades of various sizes, brands, and even both flat and spiral all on one project. I have been at this for over 20 years. It is something you learn over time and not everyone does the same thing and that is all well and good.2 points -

As far as I'm aware Les the Niqua blades are FD blades. I use Niqua #3 for everything and I find that they cut for ages before getting blunt. They are easily got here in the UK and I can buy them a gross at a time.2 points -
Tried cutting this with some new thinner wood that I bought last week. A beautiful pattern done for me by @multitomNow, do I frame it like I did the Bird on a Tap or leave as is.Decisions, decisions Oh and because the wood was thinner, I tried cutting two together. That worked well.I do love what I do1 point

Brenda as mentioned tap the bottom on the bench, never use the tip to spread the glue and my favorite (over years of glue clogging of any sort) Always stand the bottle/tube upright when not in use.... I even made a holder to sit the glue tubes in..Sorry no pics....1 point

The phone you saw in the photo is my S7 Edge. I had to upgrade to the S20 because I just got new hearing aids. They are Bluetooth and paired with the S20. They would not work on an android lesser than S10 so for not much more I got the S20 which is 5G. Very fast. For several years I could not use a phone, watch TV without closed captioning, You Tube, etc. My hearing for conversations, with my old hearing aids, required me to be in front of the one speaking and see their lips move. Very limiting. My old aids were three years old and cost $5,000. These were $5300 after trading my old aids in plus $800 for a new phone. But the difference in technology is unbelievable. At my age 81, why not go out enjoying myself.1 point

Do you use both straight and spiral blades?
new2woodwrk reacted to rod143 for a topic
I use both types of blades often on the same project. For veining and long straight cuts I usually use straight blades. For irregular areas where the shape is not picked out by the eye I use spirals. Some areas along the side of the face if they are not "right" are picked out quickly by the viewer. I seem to have a little more control with straight blades, but they take longer for much of the work.1 point -

I haven't tried spirals at all yet. Heck, I get nervous changing from my Pegas MG#3 LOL - which today I've cut 5 puzzles with one blade so far.1 point -
Okay .. that makes sense .. I love the Niqua's .. was going to try the NON-MG Pegas .. see if they are a little bit sturdier ..1 point
-
Yes they are more brittle that any other blade I've used.. I don't use much small blades under the #3 in the MG blade line.. I do use spirals in 2/0 and 3/0 though but I use FD spirals.. Also like to mention that I think the Pegas blade number sizes run a bit smaller than FD and Olsen blades..1 point

I find it difficult to switch between blades. Flat blades are something I'm so comfortable with whereas spirals I don't use too often. I usually do what I can with one blade, go for a coffee or cut something else and then go back fresh another day. Probably why it takes forever for me to cut a 'mixed' piece , It took me a week to do this one .1 point
