Weather here is typical fall weather, rain and not too warm, so in the shop we go. Some Christmas ornaments for COVID from Sue Mey, also a cube Kleenex box from Sue Mey, Steve Good new snow man for 2020. It has been a fun couple of days. Also I gave a try at Led Display light, patters by SteveGood also. Enjoy6 points -

Nightlight

I made several of these a few years ago. I adapted a pattern from Steve Good. His had an open back, I wanted to close it in. I use 0.36 watt LED to keep it cool. They come in red, yellow, blue, green and orange. I just use printer paper to diffuse the light. It's 6" x 6" x 2-3/4". I think I'll give it to my granddaughter.4 points -

The wood portion of this is the leftover part of a shield I cut for another project. It is just dipped in 50/50 BB. Red backer is 3/16" underlayment. The heart is 1/2" Poplar. The heart is the only thing that is scrolled. I shaped it with a belt sander, flap sander and a bit by hand. The shaping is very crude. It told me that I should never attempt intarsia. I abhor sanding!3 points

October - Scroll Saw Challenge
Me and my buddy and one other reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Here's a few I did back in March, before all the quarantine stuff, to get a head start on Halloween: 1. Ash ("Evil Dead" movie series) 2. Alfred Hitchcock (writer/director of horror movies such as "The Birds") 3. H. P. Lovecraft (early 20th century horror author, creator of the 'Cthulu' and 'Elder Ones' mythos, inspiration for many modern horror writers) 4. Edgar Allen Poe (horror poet, author) 5. Oogie-Boogie Man ("Nightmare Before Christmas" movie villain) 6. no idea. Found it on Google, thought it was a wickedly cool creepy smile. 7. All of them, stained and framed.2 points -

It's October! Time to pull out my Halloween decorations. Not sure how Halloween is going to play out this year, which makes me a little sad for the kids. But at least I can decorate the house. This month's theme is October. It can be Halloween, fall, harvest, pumpkins, Green Day or whatever you think of. Have fun with it!1 point -

Howdy all. We've been doing these scroll saw challenges since 2017. I think they're a lot of fun and I love seeing what you guys come up with. But, I gotta be honest, I'm running out of good ideas. But, since you're a clever bunch, I'd like to get some ideas from y'alls. What would make some fun scroll saw challenges? Post as many as you can here. Hopefully I can get a pool if ideas that will last me a few more years. Thanks for your help!1 point

I was going through some things I downloaded some time back and ran across this piece. I believe it was a paper cut someone had done and posted somewhere. I remember when I saw it, I thought it might make a fun scroll saw pattern so I put it on Inkscape and made a pattern. My wife liked the pattern too, so I cut one for her. This is the results. I used a piece of wood I had laying around and cut it with a Pegas #3MG blade. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

A quick rummage around Google Calendar for obscure holidays or "National ____ Day/Week/Month" may trigger some ideas. I'm a big fan of SciFi/Fantasy/military history (yes...one can like fiction AND nonfiction), there's tons of categories there. Sports? Plenty of sports options (I would guess....my braincell has limited memory capacity and is generally full of SciFi/Fantasy/military history to the point where my knowledge of sports extends to jogging and the shape of various balls used in various sports). Or do a "mashups", where two different genres combine, such as Ronald Regan riding a velociraptor or R2D2 dressed up as a Dalek. ETA: Ooooooo...do a "backlighting" one! A project designed to be lit from behind, whether by a candle, LED light, window, etc.1 point -

Gee...might as well list some of the other groups.......Insects, bacteria, virus...2020 is big for a specific virus, just wants you to cut it out and hang it on a wall. Don't worry about the other wall hangings, just cut wooden masks for them. RJF1 point -

I think classic art is not copyrighted, so scroll work of a classic art master could be a complex or simple project depending on the work selected. We have been looking for a house since January,. They have either been way over priced or damaged to the point of unlivable. If someone has scroll saw plans on a full size house I can work on that challenge. RJF1 point -
I have a I Phone. Go to cloud find picture you want. Download to were you want it to go. Once in PC can edit as needed.1 point

This is the way I do it from my android phione, very simple. Assuming you do have a PC USB to Phone cord, with both the PC and Phone turned on and the cord connected to both just bring up two separate File Explorer windows. In one, open your file where you want your photos to reside. In the other find your phone listed in the left hand column...usually under "This PC" and click on it. Your phone may or may not have an SD card, if it does click on"Card" , if not Click on "Phone". A list of folders will apear, clic on" DCIM". Another list of folders will apear click on "Camera". A listing of the Photos that you have taken will apear listed as .jpg's. I sort by date so you can fingd the latest you just shot. At this point you can just drag and drop (Copy or Move) the photos from your Phone to the folder in the other Explorer window on your computer. However, here (on the phone) if you click on your photo, it will open in "Photos" editor where you can crop, rotate, etc. After croping I "Save a Copy", renaming it and saving it in the photos folder on your PC. I know there are other ways this can be done, but this works for me. Not sure if all is the same if you are using an IPhone, but the procedure shoud be similar. Someone else may be able to verify that.1 point

I have been guilty of taking bad photos, in fact, I recently found out how to take a photo with my phone and post here without the photo turning side-wades. I know I have a lot to learn still.1 point

Cell phone cameras have come a real long way over the years.. I too have a expensive Canon camera.. But my etsy photos are taken with a cheap Sony Cyber-Shot digital camera that is at least 15 years old, LOL. and yes.. with tripod and my homemade cardboard box lightbox I made... My cell phone actually does better than the Sony.. but I use my computer to do listings and I've never mastered the art of getting the photos off my iphone to my computer.. One day I'm going to get a IPad... Lot of people run their etsy shops solely from their cell phone... I'm not a master of using a cell phone for much of anything.. LOL1 point

When I take photos for my Etsy site, I use a a light box. I have several different colored back drops. I also have a very nice Canon digital camera with a tripod. Then I would have to download the photos to my iPad, then edit them. I found out that my IPhone takes just as good pictures as my expense camera. So, anymore, I just use my phone to take photos. They automatically upload from my phone to my iPad. If they need editing, I use the IOS photo editor. If I’m taking pictures of equipment, tools or jigs to show on the forum, I just use the phone, just the shop lites and post it. Please continue to show your work. I do appreciate great photography, but it’s not necessary to post here. Most here are hobbyists and don’t do this to make money. Do the best you can. We won’t judge you by the quality of your photography skills!1 point

Drilling holes i Baltic Birch
NC Scroller reacted to BadBob for a topic
I make toys mostly, so my method is geared more toward larger holes around 1/4-inch and upward. I have a sets of very high-quality brad point and forstner bits, but I use a lot of twist drills. With the fractional, letter, and number size bits, I can get precisely the size hole I need. Use a Quality Sharp Bit. Dull bits do not cut; they tear. Use the correct speed for the bit you are using. It seems like most people never change the speed on their drill press. It makes a difference. Smaller the bit, the faster you spin it. Drill slowly. Most people tend to force the bit through the wood, which causes the bit to clog and not clear the chips and increases tear-out. If your bit is clogging and not clearing the chips, you are probably drilling to fast, or the bit is dull. Do not drill completely through. Set the depth stop or table, so just the point of the bit peeks through. Setting the depth is easier with good brad point bits because the point is longer than the cutters, but you can do it with twist drills. When using a twist drill bit, I adjust the depth stop to where it just touches the backer board. Now, turn the wood over and finish drilling from the backside, letting the bit find its way. Do this slow and careful. You will sometimes get a piece of wood that you can't drill a smooth hole into, no matter how careful you are or how sharp your bits are. I learned the hard way, making toys, to drill all the holes first if possible.1 point -

Not to long ago Frank made a comment about a picture I posted. Now I will tell the truth it did upset me at the time. BUT after thinking about it he was 100% RIGHT. My photo was CRAP. People we won’t improve if everyone tells us we are great! I for one appreciate a person like Frank who gives constructive comments. My 2 cents worth lol1 point

Ooh, I usually take mine on the kitchen table or out in the back garden. I didn't think I had to be 'professional' to post on this forum. I don't 'sell' my stuff on here I 'show family' what I've done . I put stuff in the 'Bragging Rights as it says ''Show off your latest works, achievements, and all things that make you proud'' . Mmm, food for thought and I'll watch this conversation carefully and perhaps just stick to my own Facebook page.1 point
