Sue May NW1902 Christmas Tree Wreath Pattern. Believe it or not I did not see the little trees untill I started to cut the pattern. I used 1/2" sanded ply for the top and 1/4" BB ply for the backer. This seemed to be a very simple project but took way too much time to complete. The cut was relatively simple and repetative, but when cutting the 1/2" ply I cut out the middle before doubble stick tapeing the backer to it, so I had to do the middle cut out twice. All cutting was done with Pegas #1 spiral blades except the small stars on top of each tree for which I used a Pegas #1 MGT. to get pointer stars.. Then I decided to paint the trees green and the backer that shows behind the trees red. That was easy, until when overlayed, the red was vissable all around the edges both inside and outside which ment I now had to hand paint all the exposed edges of the backer green. I also painted all the stars gold, but the craft paint did not cover the green sparay paint very well reguiring multiple coats and my hands are not to steady these days. I'm Not quite finished yet. I had the bright idea (no pun intended) to add mini LED lights through holes in the backer. I found a cheap 100 bulb string of the mini LED's in Big LOts. Searching through my numbered drill set I finally found the correct size bit that would hold the light in place with out glue. All is good except there is way too much wire bunched up behind the wreath. As they say: Live and learn. Not, IMHO, the best project to undertake and wouldn't do it again. I'll hang it in my house for the holidays but not sure is it will be a keepsake. And I did not mention that it takes 3 AAA batteries that will need to be replaced regularly if left on for any length of time..... Unlit Lit10 points

Do a Google search for planeing thin wood. I have also have the Dewalt 735 and have exploded a few pieces of thin wood. Never stand in line with the feed because you will have wood being kicked out. you can make jigs etc. to hold the wood. The grain direction is also critical. I use a great deal of thin woods and now own a Supermax 19-38 drum sander. I re-saw and then sand to dimension. I have also had to replace the internal plastic chute that was shattered by one of my thin wood adventures. I usually don't go below 1/4 in the planer. These videos use double sided tape , CA glue or hot glue.3 points

Don't fret Frank. I doubt what I use is all BB ply but my source is my husbands wood yard, I pick the best pieces and can do stuff like this with it quite easily. I don't think they turned out too badly. I have however had problems with 3mm BB ply that cost me an arm and a leg from a 'specialist' shop.3 points

Decided to make a Halloween lamp this year, and came up with the lamp below. Saw where Steve Good had used a flame effect led bulb in a project and liked the idea a lot, so I got one for this project. The flickering light from this bulb really makes the lamp interesting. The image of the cat is downloaded from the internet. Cut from 1/4" BB, with a frosted mylar sheet for the background. Spray painted black. About 6" wide and 8" high and 3" deep. I don't know why the light from the bulb is yellow, in real life it is all pumpkin orange, like the color in the bats. Guess using a phone to take pictures is iffy. Tom3 points

John Lennon

Eh, not much to say about the musical tastes of a guy who's music abilities consist of pushing "play" on a CD player, listens to audiobooks while scrolling, and plays Swedish heavy metal (SABATON!!!! \m/ ) at work more because its ALL about military history than for the deathguitars. So my opinion on Lenon, combined with $5, will get you a very small cup of coffee these days. LOL But I will still show respect to a well-cut scroll pattern.3 points -

A little knee therapy
amazingkevin and one other reacted to daveww1 for a topic
very nice job, I have a little over 2 weeks to go with my knee surgery therapy. I started doing it right after July 4th. and will be doing it until the end of the month. I haven't gotten much done in the shop due to a pipe fitting cracking over my dark room ceiling. Been busy doing repairs to the damaged things and drying prints that had gotten wet. I'm waiting for a Pegas scroll saw to be delivered. Looking forward to using it.2 points -

Axminster has just rung me and said, because I've not had the saw that long and because the 'pin' doesn't come as a 'single' item, they are sending me a replacement 'unit'.... A new tension lever + pin, free of charge. Now isn't that a lovely, refreshing gesture, great customer service. !!!2 points

3 Piece Puzzle Brain Teaser
OzarkSawdust reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
I had a spare 3 minutes on my hands and started looking for simple type puzzle/brain teasers and came across this one from Steve Good and made one... It's pretty cool. I think I'll put 2 out on display at my upcoming holiday event, one completed, one in pieces and a sign "If you can solve in under 1 minute, you WIN one, but if you don't solve it, you must BUY one" They have a choice of assembling or disassembling. First I need to master it. LOL1 point -

This is a Russ Beard Marlin pattern that was slightly modified and resized to suit a standard 11x14 Frame and cut from 5/32" thk Maple solid core ply with a painted 1/8" thk BB ply backer. All cutting was done with Pegas #0 spiral blades Panel finished with multiple coats of clear lacquer. I made a simple Poplar frame stained with Minwax Early American and coated with clear satin polyurethane. If you look close you might see that the backer is painted black behind the Marlin and painted a fairly dark aqua green behind the water area.1 point

Very nice Brenda! I like the tree with the names lasered on it...I need to get one of those. That's cool how you did your name on the sign, I might "borrow" that idea for something in the future. By the way, is that middle picture a self portrait...? lol1 point -
Make a planer board and adhere coarse sandpaper to the surface with a good spray adhesive. I have planed narrow straight grain wood down to 1/32 thickness for bookmarks with very light passes. As a safety measure never stand directly behind the infeed table and always wear eye protection.1 point

The inability to sit for more tha an hour has certainly not done anything to mess with your cutting skills. May have taken a little longer to complete but it is very nice work. Hope thing get much better for you and your saw (no pun intended) time.1 point -
I'm by no means an expert, but from what I undersatnd there is BB ply and there is BB ply, and the two may not be the same quality. I'm not sure your sourse may be the quality that you may want to be using. I've been using BB Ply that come in 12"X24" panels without any cutting backer and I have not experienced any tear out top or bottom. I do get a lot of fuzzies, but between the sanding mop you reccomended and a small butane torch, I'm able to get rid of them after a cut. I do sand both sides of my panels before cutting. This mainly helps with strand pull out when removing the film (clear shelving liner I get from Walmart) that I use under the pattern. Also, after drilling the blade holes, I debur each hole on the backside with a dremel round head carving bit. Makes installing the blade much eaiser and eliminates blade causing tearout at the hole. Just some thoughts from this newbie.1 point

I remember Sheriff Doc Daffit arresting all of the long haired hippies from Alabama for vagrancy, shaving their hair off , apologizing for the misunderstanding and letting them go. We also have a mass exodus from NYC out to our neck of the woods, Housing prices have gone absolutely bonkers. We are in a small incorporated village "Bellport", the dividing line through it is South country rd. The Million dollar homes are to the south and "normal folks" like us north. Many of the southern homes were summer houses, a recent sale 5M. Many of these folks work in the city and are now permanent residents. Two houses just around the corner just sold for 1m+, the average home price on the north side has jumped to 450- 500 and they sell within days. All of this new wealth is proving a desperately needed boost to the business in our village.1 point

Planing
amazingkevin reacted to WayneMahler for a topic
Not really familiar with the Dewalt planers. One thing I have found is paying close attention to the grain direction. If the grain direction changes in the board, instead of cutting with the grain you start going against the grain. This will cause chip out and a few other things too. Another thing to try would be to mount the maple on a separate board and use it as a sled. I attach mine with double sided tape and it works great . Taking lighter cuts may also help. Maybe others will chime in on this for you also. Best of luck with your issue and getting it resolved. Please keep us posted.1 point -
Ray my contractor Delta table saw has a cast iron top and wings and is belt driven. I'm not taking about one of the direct drive folding stand type contractor saws. Mine is a quality made piece of equipment but they still refer to it as a contractor saw. Maybe it's for higher quality contractors. LOL1 point

Congratulations! You posted with the response from Axminster while I was researching sources for you. These are supposed to be companies that may have the pin you need in case you are interested. https://www.partstown.com/ https://us.misumi-ec.com/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/roll-pins/s?k=roll+pins I wasn't sure if you really need a Dowel Pin or a Roll pin/Roller pin. God Bless! Spirithorse1 point -

don watson reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
While you'd need to make sure you got the right sized pin.. most hardware stores should have the pin.. and probably less than $0.50.. That said.. It's good on them to send you a new whole assembly as those pins don't just fall out.. and if it did.. it may have damage to the hole that it goes through being wallowed out some by running it and not knowing it was coming out.. so even a new pin may fall out again.. should be a snug fit.. I would go with installing the assembly.. I have a feeling they might be thinking the same thing as me about the hole being wallowed out.. Otherwise I'd think they'd just get a pin and send you that..1 point -

Which table saw?
OzarkSawdust reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
A couple years ago when I was thinking about a new table saw.. I had a couple people say they really liked this saw from Lowes... It appears to not be available here in my area and it looks like they are discontinuing it.. as they have a different one the same price point.. Maybe if you check around it could be bought cheaper as a clearance model? https://www.lowes.com/pd/DELTA-10-in-Carbide-Tipped-Blade-13-Amp-Table-Saw/1000875384 This is the saw I think might be replacing that one.. https://www.lowes.com/pd/DELTA-Contractor-Saws-10-in-Carbide-Tipped-Blade-15-Amp-Table-Saw/1001385562 I know very little about table saws.. so maybe this is nothing like you're looking for.. but it's closest to the price point you mentioned.. I know it's a lot nicer than my old cheap saw.. and this first link was what I had my mind set on when my bearing went out on mine.. I repaired it so never bit the bullet..1 point -

I have a 21 year old Jet contractor saw. Bought it brand new in 99. Never had a lick of trouble with it. I put good quality blades on it and it cuts square every time. I've seen them on Marketplace her in Iowa for between 200 and 500. I would recommend the jet.1 point -
