  2. I wanted to eat up some time of idleness and enjoy doing it! From start to finish the horse I knew was not going to go together right. To much pushing makes the blade curve in hard wood.so I just glued it together and put on a corian block. The plaque was a dream to cut. 3 _1/8" pieces of wood was what it consisted of. Soft wood.6"x10.75"

  3. I have 3 tiered displays that I built a couple of years ago that work great at events as you can see in the photo of my booth. They are bulky though and transporting was a bit of a nuisance. I asked if anyone knew of foldable/collapsible ones and @OzarkSawdust actually took on the challenge and adapted my design and sent me a video of his work a couple of months ago. I thought I'd rebuild my displays this winter using his method, then realized I could adapt the ones I have, as a test if nothing else. Here is the result... Fantastic. Not nearly as nice as Ozark's version, but definitely proved to be something I want to do. Will save me some space and be less bulky. And here is his video.

  4. Cut this Steve Good pattern for my wife to take to the office. Apparently, mid-October is way too soon to bring Christmas decorations in. LOL 1/4" bbply, Pegas #1MG blades. Backer/posts stained Minwax Provincial, pattern/numbers are Minwax Natural. I ended up scrolling all of the holes, even the peg holes, cutting ON the line instead of just skirting inside it. My drill bits could use some sharpening or replacing, the 1/4 for some reason tends to chew up the backside of the project, unless its heavy lumber. Worked out just fine that way, the 1/4" oak dowel was a snug fit with no need for any extra sanding.

  5. I got the idea for this in the thread: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/40448-steve-good-ornaments/ The ornament design is Steve Good's. I purchased several of these patterns from Steve and, today, I made a prototype. The mask is held in place with Velcro Dots. Margaret likes the prototype which means that I can go ahead and make about 20 more of these.

    Bad wood? Or me?

Lumber yard 1x pine can be wet and/or have pine sap near the board surface. Either could cause the wood to not slide well, even if sanded. However, it sounds more like (to me) blade problems and an attempt to cut too quickly. Inavertantly installing the blade upside down can also cause some of the problems you described and trying to cut too fast will cause many of the same problems. I recently stack cut two pieces of 1/2" sanded ply and it seemed like I had to slow my push speed WAY down to let the blade do the cutting. As soon as I pushed a little too hard it was impossible to stay on the pattern line and the blade went dull real fast. Even though they need to be changed more frequently as they dull rather fast, I find smaller blades do better when cutting thicker panels.

    Bad wood? Or me?

I am no expert, but sounds to me like pitch from the pine making it sticky.

  11. We just got back from our first event as a vendor! First, I'd really like to thank everyone here for their help and guidance. If it were not for the great people on this forum, I doubt our event would have gone as it did.., It was really an interesting day and I was extremely surprised how well we were received. We sold 20 units total! The big sellers were kids puzzle @ 2 for $25 The 2nd biggest sellers were my fantasy and sea creature puzzles: Mermaids, Pegasus, Turtles and Manatees Interestingly enough I only sold 1 dog puzzle - Boston Terrier LOL We also got our first pre-orders for 5 more kids puzzles for next week and a bunch of dungeons and dragons puzzles. I have to find a bunch of DnD oriented puzzles, so if anyone knows where I can get a few quick DnD puzzles, let me know. I have the few books that are available I think Thanks as always in advance for reading

  12. I had a spare 3 minutes on my hands and started looking for simple type puzzle/brain teasers and came across this one from Steve Good and made one... It's pretty cool. I think I'll put 2 out on display at my upcoming holiday event, one completed, one in pieces and a sign "If you can solve in under 1 minute, you WIN one, but if you don't solve it, you must BUY one" They have a choice of assembling or disassembling. First I need to master it. LOL

  13. FINALLY DONE. Lots of stuff going on .. not able to work in the garage too much lately - and - finally got this one done. I really like the piece of burl walnut I put it on - came from that source I have here - he thinks I'm using it for firewood, I think. hahahahaha And that Maple - that used to be part of a HEADBOARD for a Queen Bed someone was giving away. Now ---- it's a clock. hahahahaha .. I love this scroll saw stuff! I used a #1 NIQUA (Flying Dutchman) - and a 2/0 Pegas on some of it. Pattern is in the library - but - I would do a few things different. The stripes on the back - very delicate - I would stop them before they get to the top of the trunk under the spoiler. And I made a few changes on the fly near the headlights and things. I think it came out ok. The pattern was made from a picture I took of my son's car.

  17. I get all my lumber, plywood and solid wood from specialty lumber store about 2 hours away. I make the trip once a year. I take the wife and we stop of lunch and maybe some other shopping. So I come home with a truck load of wood (baltic birch I normally get 5 or more sheets). The wife is happy. Happy wife. Happy life.

    Bad wood? Or me?

Go to your scrap pile and get another board. Since you cut it before, it should cut all right again. If you still have the problem, it's the saw or blade. If it cuts all right, it's the wood. Tom

    Christmas Tree Wreath

Sue May NW1902 Christmas Tree Wreath Pattern. Believe it or not I did not see the little trees untill I started to cut the pattern. I used 1/2" sanded ply for the top and 1/4" BB ply for the backer. This seemed to be a very simple project but took way too much time to complete. The cut was relatively simple and repetative, but when cutting the 1/2" ply I cut out the middle before doubble stick tapeing the backer to it, so I had to do the middle cut out twice. All cutting was done with Pegas #1 spiral blades except the small stars on top of each tree for which I used a Pegas #1 MGT. to get pointer stars.. Then I decided to paint the trees green and the backer that shows behind the trees red. That was easy, until when overlayed, the red was vissable all around the edges both inside and outside which ment I now had to hand paint all the exposed edges of the backer green. I also painted all the stars gold, but the craft paint did not cover the green sparay paint very well reguiring multiple coats and my hands are not to steady these days. I'm Not quite finished yet. I had the bright idea (no pun intended) to add mini LED lights through holes in the backer. I found a cheap 100 bulb string of the mini LED's in Big LOts. Searching through my numbered drill set I finally found the correct size bit that would hold the light in place with out glue. All is good except there is way too much wire bunched up behind the wreath. As they say: Live and learn. Not, IMHO, the best project to undertake and wouldn't do it again. I'll hang it in my house for the holidays but not sure is it will be a keepsake. And I did not mention that it takes 3 AAA batteries that will need to be replaced regularly if left on for any length of time..... Unlit Lit

  23. Brenda, If the pin is a solid steel one then you could try putting a spring roll pin in. My Delta has them and they don't come out, in fact they take some getting out when needed to be removed. You can get all sizes from most suppliers even Aldi and Lidl have packs of them in now and again and cost pennies, I'm sure if you measured the length and diameter of the original pin you'll find one to fit. I'm not sure you were asking me but I forgot to add, if I don't have enough clamps I use landscaping bricks sitting on another piece of wood on top to hold it down.

  25. Yep .. Made the SHELBY I put in the pattern catalog for one son - just bought the Shelby - and this one for the other son - just bought the Challenger. I think they will love 'em - and just like the cars themselves - will compete over which I did the better job cutting hahahahaha .. "Mine's walnut - he loves me more!" "Mine's Maple and Walnut - I'm his favorite!" hahahahahaha

    Baltic Birch Plywood

I purchased from Rugby Architectural Products in Atalanta, GA. Unfortunately Rugby Architectural Products does not have any stores close to MI. It was the best Baltic Birch plywood I have ever purchased. No flaws at all. They said the Russian Baltic Birch is hard to get now because of the weather in Russia. bb

    Bad wood? Or me?

Sounds like wet wood to me. Buying pine for the home stores can be a lesson in frustration. It's never dried enough. Especially down where you are. I'd try to order some from one of the suppliers in a drier climate. You've been scrolling long enough now to know the basics and it doesn't sound like you have done anything wrong. As suggested, take a piece of scrap wood that you have had laying around and see how it responds to the same setup you are using on the new wood. I'll bet it works great.

    Baltic Birch Plywood

It shows you're in SE MI.. so could be a drive for you.. It's a bit of a drive (40 -45 minutes ) from me but I buy a lot of stuff there.. they put you in their system and the more you buy the better pricing they give to loyal customers.. I pay $12 for a 5ft x 5ft sheet of 1/8" and about $15 for 1/4".. Never bought the 3/8 so I don't know.. Anyway this place is in Charlotte MI.. so I'm not sure in relation to you this is.. There may be a place near you with these kind of prices.. I haven't bought any in just over a year so maybe the prices have went up some too.. The place is LLJohnson Here is a link to the site.. you can look up the prices online but not order http://www.theworkbench.com/ EDIT: They have raised the prices since I last looked. It was $12 sheet for 1 sheet pricing just a couple years.. maybe last year..

    I have my Make Shift way of doing the same as Rays Does. Cheaper also. I use a Bad Ash Vac. Quiter than normal vac. Smaller also. Sits under table. Table I made and my Hegner Purrs like a Kitten with almost no Vibration..... Thanks for putting up with this. Took the pictures upon completion of assembling it. Lots of sawdust underside. But this unit will Suck all the Dust immediately.... Danny :+}

  39. I have two Ex's and I built stands for both of them. I like to sit at my saw. I made them with 7" wheels at the back end of the stand and rigged up some pvc handles so that I can move the saws around like a wheelbarrow. I now have incorporated small vacs on both of them with cyclones and cpap hoses for dust collection. I'll post pics one of these days.

    Which table saw?

Al, I guess I misspoke when I referred to the jobsite saws as contractors saws. I know the difference and what you have is what I would be looking for. But, it seems that they are holding their value. The cheapest one I've seen on C/L was $550 and it looked like it had a lot of "contracting" on it. I'll be patient and something will come along. It's not like I have to have it yesterday.
