  1. I was in the shop all day. Some puzzle orders (good thing we have Scott and Harvey - how is Harvey, btw?). Shawl-Pin in the shape of a sewing needle (I knitted a vest for my sister 70th birthday and the shawl-pin will be there to close it. A tablet holder, because the chihuahua one immediately was acquired by my daughter. A lidded box (bottom turned on the lathe - lid and finial on the scroll-saw). Everything made from ScrapWood.

    Spiral blades

    I use a hammer on spiral blades to crush them into tiny balls, then burn them, then bury them. DEEP. They are pure evil and I don't want them coming back to life.

  7. I had this idea last year in December, unfortunately it was too late for Christmas calendar, you dont even imagine how I was waiting to make this project and finally time is came! I think it is my Best Christmas scroll saw pattern: - this pattern consist of 25 small Christmas ornaments, so You can make multi-layered calendar - or just separate Christmas tree toys or decorations - finished project is great present for kids before Christmas - for marking dates or counting days till Christmas by hanging ornaments - any scroller will be happy to get high quality and detailed pattern like this one All ornaments made at one cute style, size of project is 12 x 16,5 inches, recommended wood thickness 1/8 inch Watch the the video of making Christmas calendar Christmas calendar pattern

  8. I have 3 tiered displays that I built a couple of years ago that work great at events as you can see in the photo of my booth. They are bulky though and transporting was a bit of a nuisance. I asked if anyone knew of foldable/collapsible ones and @OzarkSawdust actually took on the challenge and adapted my design and sent me a video of his work a couple of months ago. I thought I'd rebuild my displays this winter using his method, then realized I could adapt the ones I have, as a test if nothing else. Here is the result... Fantastic. Not nearly as nice as Ozark's version, but definitely proved to be something I want to do. Will save me some space and be less bulky. And here is his video.

  9. IMO it is all about the position of your elbows relative to the table. Some folks like the elbows below the table so it almost looks like the arms are hanging off the table, Others like it when the elbow is above the table and the arms/hands rest on the table. Also consider lifting the back of the saw so that the table itself is slanted toward the operator, amazing how much difference that makes. Mine sits on a 4x4 (back legs) Basically you have to try different set ups until you find the one that works for your physical abilities

    No Brag, Just Fact.

    For those who aren't familiar with the title of this post, "No brag, just fact" is a quote from an old Western television show I watched when I was a kid, "The Guns Of Will Sonnet." Certainly not bragging about this post, just knew you guys could relate with my frustration. I was cutting this for a friend to give to some friends of his who bought their dream beach home at Dauhpin Island. After about 2-3 hours of tedious cutting I took the top pattern off to find what I thought was a small crack on the back side went almost all the way through and some pieces feel out. I cracked it the rest of the way to vent my frustration. Strike one!

  12. We just got back from our first event as a vendor! First, I'd really like to thank everyone here for their help and guidance. If it were not for the great people on this forum, I doubt our event would have gone as it did.., It was really an interesting day and I was extremely surprised how well we were received. We sold 20 units total! The big sellers were kids puzzle @ 2 for $25 The 2nd biggest sellers were my fantasy and sea creature puzzles: Mermaids, Pegasus, Turtles and Manatees Interestingly enough I only sold 1 dog puzzle - Boston Terrier LOL We also got our first pre-orders for 5 more kids puzzles for next week and a bunch of dungeons and dragons puzzles. I have to find a bunch of DnD oriented puzzles, so if anyone knows where I can get a few quick DnD puzzles, let me know. I have the few books that are available I think Thanks as always in advance for reading

  13. I have a twitter but I used a different browser that I wasn't logged in on and it worked for me just fine.. I'm not a very big twitter or FB enthusiast.. If I want to look at unbiased unfiltered content I use Clapper or Parlor.. Not sure if you can get it on a PC.. I use them on my phone..

  14. As has been said, it's not a simple answer. Each person may have a different position of preference, based on various ergonomic and physical factors. There are a couple of issues that tend to crop up when scrolling for long periods of time. One is numbness in the hands. The other is soreness in the neck and shoulders. I'm sure there are others, but as far as table height is concerned, I think these are the 2 main ones. I've never had a problem with hand numbness, but my neck & shoulders are a different story. I like to keep the table a little higher, so that I'm not so hunched over. This helps with the neck & shoulder soreness. For some, this could cause problems with their hands. I think tilting the table can alleviate this somewhat. If the table is a little higher and on an angle, it fits a little more naturally with the bend of your elbows.

  15. I had the 18" PC (a little over $300 at Lowes) and quickly upgraded to a Pegas for two reasons.. The blade on the PC jumps around a lot and is not instant on/off. It takes a second or two to reach full speed each time yopu turn it on. Very difficult to start a cut that is at apoint. Also the 18" throat is limiting. I do not recommend this saw! The PC stand, however, is quite heavy and solid. Minimum vibration. Almost as good as the Pegas stand I now have. Do your research and save your pennies so you can get a better saw. You would have to pay twice.

    Spiral blades

    Flying Dutchman does offer flat end blades, but not in their smallest sizes. I generally use the 2/0 spiral, sometimes a 3/0 and they aren't available in the flat end, so I end up untwisting them. I use 2 pair of pliers. I grip the end of the blade, about an inch or so from the end with one pair and use it to hold it like a vise. Then I use the other pair to untwist the blade. The important thing is to get both ends in approximately the same plane, when flattening/untwisting. Makes getting them in the clamps easier. I tried the hammer it flat method when I first started using spirals. I didn't have much luck with it. Many of the blades broke shortly after applying tension. I think I had a bad batch of blades, but I've developed my technique for straightening them with the pliers and it works for me, so I haven't gone back to hammering them.

  36. I had a spare 3 minutes on my hands and started looking for simple type puzzle/brain teasers and came across this one from Steve Good and made one... It's pretty cool. I think I'll put 2 out on display at my upcoming holiday event, one completed, one in pieces and a sign "If you can solve in under 1 minute, you WIN one, but if you don't solve it, you must BUY one" They have a choice of assembling or disassembling. First I need to master it. LOL

  44. That's a very cool project. When I drill I use a backer, stops the backside blow out. I just have to keep moving so as not to drill in the same hole. I just started using foam insulation as the base - works better than using wood for a backer

  45. That’s a great project Alex. I was thinking where can the ornaments go when they are taken off the calendar. If a small tree was scrolled to put beside the calendar the ornaments could be hung on the tree and Christmas morning the little tree would be decorated.

    scroll saw stand or table

    I have my Make Shift way of doing the same as Rays Does. Cheaper also. I use a Bad Ash Vac. Quiter than normal vac. Smaller also. Sits under table. Table I made and my Hegner Purrs like a Kitten with almost no Vibration..... Thanks for putting up with this. Took the pictures upon completion of assembling it. Lots of sawdust underside. But this unit will Suck all the Dust immediately.... Danny :+}
