  1. The wife is making door hangers and she comes to the shop to have me cutting some stuff for her to use (happy wife is a happy life). Managed to cut some other stuff for the craft show Saturday. Bowls pattern from Sheila Landry, I cut some plexiglass to used on theLED base lights and since I used 1/8” BB backup with blue tape on to help the cut, we decided how about making napkins holder with them. Had time to cut the trivet, anxious to see how things turn out. I couldn’t resist to cut Steve Good pattern about “hand made with a scrollsaw” Enjoy

  5. I saw this TDpainter pattern a while back and just got around to cutting it. It has a special place above the fireplace with the urn that holds our 14 yr old orange tabby cat "BOO". He was a very good pet and companion for many years. We had to put him down last March, the DR thought it was cancer and at his age it was better for him. We miss him.

A quick cut this weekend. Steve Good pattern, 1/2" ply I had leftovers of. Minwax Honey stain. It was a pretty quick cut, easy assembly.

  8. I thank Rich (goldfish) and Don (don in brooklin) for the elements that I utilized in the pattern that I cobbled together for this. It has temporarily replaced the seasonal rotating Welcome sign on our front door and will stay there until after Remembrance Day on November 11th. I dedicate this to Tip Pellow (my father) and Elmer Pellow (my uncle). They were both in the Canadian army in WWII and, between the two, fought in Italy, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Germany. Both of them survived the war but it took a tremendous toll and neither lived to old age. Both the foreground and background are Baltic Birch plywood. I painted the wreath attempting to give it and old and weathered look. Here is one photo of the door with one of its typical Welcome signs and another photo with the new wreath.

  9. A friend wanted something for her front door with her grandkids' names on it.So I don't know if this is called segmented,or a puzzle, but it was different than anything I've tried before and was fun and challenging both.Cutting was the fun part,as usual, but figuring out what to cut and how to shape it was the challenge. The main thing is,I had fun and she was thrilled,so a win win.

    DW blower

I went through the problem of having the blower tube loosen up and finally fall off. Tried hot melt glue, duct tape and so forth with no success. Finally found a fix. Too cheeep to buy a new one at #27 or so. Instead I used 1/2 inch 3:1 heat shrink tubing. I found the type that has hot melt glue inside. Put about and inch over the end of the blower hose. Had to trim a bit of the hose to get the 1/2 inch to slip over the end. Used a heat gun to shrink the tubing while holding the hose end tight to the round fitting and shrunk the heat shrink stuff. When it cooled i found it tighter than when new.

  12. This is our 2020 Christmas card that we send out to 36 friends and family members. This tradition was started due to our good friend ROLF, who so graciously showed his beautiful Volker Arnold ornaments that he mails out and my wife saw his post 3 years ago and the rest is history. The Christmas sentiment was composed and printed by Ann Marie and I supplied the scrolled ornament. The image is a reduced version of a pattern I found on Scroll Saw Village many years ago, I apologize for not remembering the designers name and the fact that my computer skills are so bad that I am not able to find that information. Unfortunately, this may be the last year that we mail these Christmas greetings, because the postal rate has increased so high, that it is almost prohibited. We purchased 3M bubble bags and I cut pieces of left over mat board to protect the ornament when it the stamps are canceled, last year that didn’t work, and many of the ornaments were damaged. One of the postal workers I went to speak to about last years problem suggested that I print “FRAGILE” on the envelope…Yea right, that’ll work. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for looking. Everyone BE WELL & STAY SAFE, Rick

    President Trump

At the risk of hijacking this thread (which may or may not have already happened ) I think that Gary hit on something in his last comment above that needs a little more fleshing out...so I'll give it a shot. According to your comment that I quoted, Gary, I'm becoming more convinced that a generation that never learned the "lessons of life" themselves cannot teach those to its subsequent generation. IOW, if this is true, then the generation that raised today's parents bear a lot of responsibility for spoiling their kids and keeping them from learning the "lessons of life," which stopped the passing on of those lessons. Or, I could be totally wrong here. But I don't think so.

    President Trump

I have my opinion on this, but I'll keep it to myself. But I would like to say this...that when George W. Bush was elected, I had never seen the type of disrespect for a sitting President as I did with him.. and it got worse with each President since and I am going to assume that it will just get worse with each one from here on out. I'm not saying which party I lean towards but I have shown respect for the "other" parties President since I have been old enough to know better. I have read two autobiographies from 2 Presidents, they both mentioned the same thing.. they don't have the power that most people think they have. It's not 1 man's fault nor should 1 man get all of the praise for things that happen. We as a nation must show respect, not just for the parties, but for each other, in everyday life. How often do you see someone pull out in front of someone on the road? 9 out of 10 times that going to lead to one of them giving the "International Sign". I've pulled out in front of people before, not on purpose, but because I didn't see them or thought I had more time,, I always give a "I'm sorry" type of wave. How many times do you see someone not use a turn signal? That's being disrespectful right there, not to mention dangerous. If you pulled out in front of someone with the buggy at a grocery store, I'm pretty sure that you would apologize to that person and not give them the finger. It's when we get behind the wheel of a car or in front of a keyboard that we become badasses and disrespectful. I hope in my next life I'm placed in Mayberry! LOL Ok, off my soapbox. I hope that I didn't break the rules of the site for saying my peace. I tried to stay non political or show disrespect so I think I'm alright with this.

    Hello All

My introduction to the scroll saw was in 1981. I was a freshman in high school and took Carpentry and Woodworking. There were 3-4 scroll saws along a wall. The teacher, due to budget constraints I’m sure, did not buy scroll saw blades. Instead, he cut up broken band saw blades. As you can imagine, the performance was not impressive. I realized the bandsaws performed much better and only used them. Flash forward to 2020, I lose my job to COVID cutbacks and decide to make woodworking a business. I see videos on scroll saws and the rest is history. I purchased a Delta at $342 from Amazon and have now discovered Intarsia.

  16. This is a custom order request. The pattern is by Harvey Byler purchased from WoodCraftByScott.com. I enlarged the pattern by 10%. Cut at home on the EX21 using FD UR #5 blades. The wood is Poplar approximately 7" x 9". Sanded with the Mac Mop and dipped in Shellac diluted 50% with alcohol. Comments welcome.

First of all let me say that Travis does not want any politics on this Forum and I agree 1000% I find it inappropriate for a Canadian to post such a thing, I am sorry that he feels that way and try to get his point on this site.

  19. I have made one each for the married couples in our family. Somewhere around 30 of them. These will be going to the ones we exchange gifts with as well as those we do not. Everyone will know we are thinking about them this way. It isn't much but then the cost out of our pockets are minimal too. I am now in the process of making names for the grandkids and should finish them tomorrow. Dick heppnergyt

  22. I cut this President Trump portrait last week and made a frame for it. I've already got one sold and another interested person. H. Botas did the pattern, I cut it in 1/4" Baltic Birch ply with #3 & #1 Pegas blades and finished with spray Lacquer. Then mounted it in a frame I made from 1 x 2 White Pine painted black with a black mat board backer. Get out and vote! We did today and beat the lines

    Clock Inserts

Well, about that time to order some more inserts.. I contact my supplier this morning and was discussing a deal and options etc.. I'm kind of hyped because they brought back the Metal case in the 50mm ( 2" ) size.. I ordered a few of them in Gold with Arabic and Roman numbers.. They are also going to send me several samples.. looks like maybe several sizes from the 2" - 3-1/2 inch maybe... Anyway for the longest time you couldn't get 2" inserts in a metal case.. they only had plastic case ones.. The 2" that I ordered was also with the good PC21 movement ( motor ) which is what I use in all the other clocks.. so they should be good quality.. The samples they are sending I'm pretty sure are plastic clocks with China movements.. Anyway.. I ordered several plastic case clocks as I do use those in certain situations as the metal ones with the compression fit.. they can be a bear to get inserted into the hole.. especially on delicate pieces.. so I'll sometimes use the plastic insert for those.. I ordered enough of the plastic and metal on the 37mm ( 1-7/16 ) that I'll probably offer both on my website.. as well as the 50mm if anyone takes up clock making.. and has a interest in some quality clocks.. LOL To my knowledge nobody is selling the 50mm metal case clocks in the USA.. If I'm wrong on that correct me.. I haven't researched that to be 100% correct.. I know they aren't on any of the main suppliers sites that I've used in the past..

You sir, hit the nail on the head! I completely agree. I would hazard a guess as to the cause of 80%, or more, of the problems in this country, and others, boil down to two words...NO RESPECT. I would guess that you and I are around the same age, as we both understand this. I learned it at an early age...I still remember the sound of Dad's belt being pulled through his beltloops LOL...but I learned...eventually Younger generations have been let run wild, and we are seeing the results. You are exactly right, behind the wheel or a keyboard people show no respect. As long as they are not held accountable and there is no consequence there is no reason to change, their parents have been lazy and never taught them lessons of life. It gets worse with each generation. Although I haven't watched every news video of all the looting and rioting I have seen a bunch in the recent months. And I don't remember seeing a bunch of 65+ seniors trashing WalMart and running out with shopping carts of TVs ...or even Depends LMAO OK...I'm out of here... Thank you for your comments, I'm not the only one that thinks like this.

Not a chance... I find that extremely insulting as a United States Veteran (as are many on here). Regardless what we think of whoever is in office at any given time...he is the President of the United States and Commander In Chief. I thought we were better than that on this forum to have that kind of a political bias and sarcasm. I simply showed a piece I had cut from a very respectable Australian pattern designer, H. Botas, and reminded folks to vote, as our elections are next week. I did not ask for a political opinion from someone in another country.

    Spartan Executive

Spartan Executive The Spartan Executive was a corporate specific designed, all metal aircraft. The first model flew in 1936 and was owned by J. Paul Getty of the Getty Oil Company and was used for executive transport. The aircraft had a retractable landing gear and P&W R-985 450 HP engine with a top speed of 257MPH and a range of 1,000 miles. It was a single pilot aircraft with a either a 3 or 4 passenger configuration. Only a 36 were built of which 16 were later operated by the U.S. military. Production ended in 1940. There are 17 model 7W still registered. This plaque is 12 x 17 BBPW on 1/4" backer. I did my bridge fill in technique on the wheels and prop. Fun cutting on my Ex-16. The Spartan Logo and the small executive were the hardest part of this project.

  33. After cutting, I sand with a Mac Mop to get rid of the fuzzies and round the edges slightly, dip in the solution and let dry over night, and sand lightly with the Mac Mop. It doesn't take all night to dry, but nothing else to do while sleeping.

  34. Nicely done and very nice way to remember those who served. Also a nice idea to hang a seasonal welcome sign. I have the "Happy Fall Y'all" hanging right now, just need to find a few patterns for the other seasons...snow is not quite appropriate here in Florida.
