    Tried New Frames

Both are made with red oak. Pattern is from the pattern library and was made by Kris Matinson. I wanted to try making something different for the frames. Wanted a more 3D look so put panel in what would be normally backwards. An other one wanted to try 8 sided frame.

  4. Good health to all the inhabitants of this site. It has been about a week and a half since the moment when I dared to register here. And all this period of time spent here was used by me exclusively for studying the content presented on this site and viewing other people's topics. I myself, because of my not very sociable nature, during all this time have not created a single topic here and have not presented any of my work for review. But you have to start sometime, right ?! Actors Wilem Dafoe and George Clooney. Dimensions 300 × 210 mm. Plywood 4mm.

  5. One old, one new....old one is a Steve Good (I believe) Thanksgiving trivet. The other is a Steve Good bowl I just finished up....as a kid, Dad was in the Air Force and we were stationed a thousand miles away (or more, depending on the year) from the rest of the family, but when we would get to visit with the grandparents, Mamaw would ALWAYS have a bowl or two of candy sitting around. Didn't matter if it was Thanksgiving or Christmas, there was a bowl of those fancy hard candies you only find during the holidays, and a bowl of those peppermint nougat things that I came to love. So having a bowl for snacky-stuff is always handy. The SteveGood pattern calls for 1/4" stock, I used 1/2" ply to make it a bit taller....more munchies is not a bad thing, is it?

    Cracked Egg

G'day all, I have about 20 stand up puzzles in various stages of completion. This is a new one. I think I have shown the other designs at various times. He is 230 x 170 x 30mm. I scanned the pattern from a book I have, many years ago, can't remember the name of book off hand.

Well, now you can buy the larger table for your King. Also, you might call Ray at Seyco and see what the possibility might be for adapting a Seyco table to your saw.

  13. A friend wanted something for her front door with her grandkids' names on it.So I don't know if this is called segmented,or a puzzle, but it was different than anything I've tried before and was fun and challenging both.Cutting was the fun part,as usual, but figuring out what to cut and how to shape it was the challenge. The main thing is,I had fun and she was thrilled,so a win win.

  14. Jerry Jeff Walker died about two weeks ago. He was a great Texas singer/songwriter and many may or may not recognize his name...but have heard his songs. His most famous was "Mr. Bojangles" and it has been covered by tons of artists including Sammy Davis Jr. and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The story for this song actually came from an old man talking about his life when Jerry Jeff landed in the drunk tank overnight in New Orleans in the mid 60s! London Homesick Blues - Anyone that has watched Austin City Limits on TV over the years has heard this song. The song's chorus was the Austin City Limits theme song for years. He has done many other songs covered by Merle Haggard, Jimmy Buffett, Willy Nelson, Lefty Frizzell, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan and more. I couldn't find a pattern so Mahendra stepped up and made me a great one from the Scamp CD cover. I cut it in 1/4" Baltic Birch and wiped it with Watco Danish Oil Natural. I'll use a black backer when I get around to making a frame. R.I.P. Jerry Jeff Walker

    The Wood Database

Thanks Algae for bringing that up. We need a reminder periodically. When I was getting into Intarsia I looked up Wood toxicity. The wood data base was quite the eye opener. No wood dust is healthy, but some are downright nasty. Besides the fire and mess hazard of wood dust having a real dust collection setup when doing Intarsia is critical.

Well the issue isn't bearwood prices.. Its Pegas prices, I believe Pegas sets the price and the dealers have to sell at that price per the contract rules.. Shipping cost may differ from one seller to another.. or dealers may put a cut on their portion of the profit to pass the savings onto the buyer.. But at the end of the day Pegas set the price.. They are a bit of an upgrade from the King and Excelsior saws.. Bigger bearing in the pivot arm, blade clamps, and other upgrades to areas that was weak points that was issues with the tried and true Excalibur type saws.. So yes.. I would think a better made saw would be a bit more money. Not saying a Excelsior isn't a good saw.. just saying that Pegas is a upgrade to an already good saw.. and the price would / should reflect that.. I would think..

Didn't think about you being in Canada, that's too bad.. Isn't BearWoods in Canada? for some reason I thought they was in Canada.. Probably still not any cheaper, just a thought.. Honestly these saws have the table just bolted to the frame.. seems like it'd be quite easy to make a larger one.. Not sure how strong plexiglass or some acrylic would be.. I sometimes wish my table was clear so I could see to put the blade in the lower clamp a little better.. LOL.. Though I'm sure it'd be scratched so much after a few days you still wouldn't see it, LOL Anyway i do recall the table being around $130ish US and they aren't all that light to ship..

  26. I saw this TDpainter pattern a while back and just got around to cutting it. It has a special place above the fireplace with the urn that holds our 14 yr old orange tabby cat "BOO". He was a very good pet and companion for many years. We had to put him down last March, the DR thought it was cancer and at his age it was better for him. We miss him.

  32. The wife is making door hangers and she comes to the shop to have me cutting some stuff for her to use (happy wife is a happy life). Managed to cut some other stuff for the craft show Saturday. Bowls pattern from Sheila Landry, I cut some plexiglass to used on theLED base lights and since I used 1/8” BB backup with blue tape on to help the cut, we decided how about making napkins holder with them. Had time to cut the trivet, anxious to see how things turn out. I couldn’t resist to cut Steve Good pattern about “hand made with a scrollsaw” Enjoy

    DW blower

I finally had mine crack on me a few months ago. It was where it attaches to the saw, probable where they all break. I just removed the cracked part, heated up the next one with my heat gun and re-attached it. It has held up so far. People have posted links on here on where new ones can be bought. I may have to look into it soon.

I have been a strong advocate for Hawk since purchasing my G4-26 back in 2005. It top feeds easily as the upper arm is spring loaded when you release the bottom blade clamp, that gives you a huge amount of room for feeding the blade. The same goes for bottom feeding lots of room. As with any saw that all takes practice. The front back stroke is adjustable to almost perfectly vertical. I have not heard anything from or about Hawk in some time, Kevin are you still in touch with them.? That said I would add a Pegas to that collection. Mainly for that fact that the table stays level and the blade moves for bevel cuts. I currently have a well tuned 16inch EX with Pegas clamps. So In my opinion I have the best scrolling capability for my scrolling needs.

If money and room was no object I would buy a Hawk and a Pegas. I already have a Hegner Multi-Max 22V that has served me well for 12 years but I would like to try the some other saws.

    Scroll Saw

Well, if money was no object, the first thing I'd do is buy a house with a real shop. Then I'd load it up with all the best woodworking tools. Once all that was done, I'd buy one each of all the best scroll saws just to have them . I'd like to have another Hegner. I liked the one I had with the exception of the motor/soft start issue. I love my EX21. I haven't had the EX16 long enough to really try it out but so far so good. I'm sort of glad the money is an issue though. I think if it was too easy to buy stuff, I'd never appreciate having anything. This way, I cherish everything I have.

  48. Here's a few I did back in March, before all the quarantine stuff, to get a head start on Halloween: 1. Ash ("Evil Dead" movie series) 2. Alfred Hitchcock (writer/director of horror movies such as "The Birds") 3. H. P. Lovecraft (early 20th century horror author, creator of the 'Cthulu' and 'Elder Ones' mythos, inspiration for many modern horror writers) 4. Edgar Allen Poe (horror poet, author) 5. Oogie-Boogie Man ("Nightmare Before Christmas" movie villain) 6. no idea. Found it on Google, thought it was a wickedly cool creepy smile. 7. All of them, stained and framed.
