  2. Jerry Jeff Walker died about two weeks ago. He was a great Texas singer/songwriter and many may or may not recognize his name...but have heard his songs. His most famous was "Mr. Bojangles" and it has been covered by tons of artists including Sammy Davis Jr. and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The story for this song actually came from an old man talking about his life when Jerry Jeff landed in the drunk tank overnight in New Orleans in the mid 60s! London Homesick Blues - Anyone that has watched Austin City Limits on TV over the years has heard this song. The song's chorus was the Austin City Limits theme song for years. He has done many other songs covered by Merle Haggard, Jimmy Buffett, Willy Nelson, Lefty Frizzell, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan and more. I couldn't find a pattern so Mahendra stepped up and made me a great one from the Scamp CD cover. I cut it in 1/4" Baltic Birch and wiped it with Watco Danish Oil Natural. I'll use a black backer when I get around to making a frame. R.I.P. Jerry Jeff Walker

    Bond, James Bond

Sean Connery...what can I say other than R.I.P ? My childhood hero has died I guess I thought he would live forever. Many of the other actors that have played 007 in later years said they were imitators...Connery WAS James Bond. I also thought Roger Moore did a good job. This is a H. Botas pattern done in 1/4" Baltic Birch with a wipe of Watco Danish Oil Natural. When I make a frame I'll use a black backer. Helder also did an older Sean Connery, I may do that one as well. He was fantastic is a number of movies.

One more project with bamboo frame, I think this frame came out great and I used it one more time. This time there are swallows. Which one do you like more? Making of Swallows project (YouTube) Swaallows pattern

    New acquisitions

Hi ..I have been busy with a few other projects so haven't done much scroll sawing..But I ran across what I think was a good deal so I had to snap it up...came with 3 gross of blades and 5 extra blade holders ..picked up another saw also...

Found this little guy over on Etsy ("DXFpage") and thought it would be a fun cut. Not too many pilot holes, maybe 25 or so, but.....dang. All that fur is just jagged lines and thin margins! So...yep, DEFINITELY a fun cut! Double-cut from 3/8" bbply, Pegas #1MG blades (two, I think). Its been a busy couple of weeks so it took me a lot longer (calendar-wise) than I thought it would, but probably close to 10-12 hours tops. The project will be stained dark, I'm thinking Minwax Ebony or Provincial, and I'm thinking about a couple of backer options...may just go with a flat ply backer, stained a lighter shade to contrast. I have a bunch of old pallet wood that would look cool, but I think it'll end up too dark even with a light oak stain. We'll see.

    Scroll Saw

Really lets see 7hrs one way for my Jeep being a bit lead footed ~20mpg at 60mph not knowing your roads. Round trip $80+ and then unless you turn right round you have lodging , and of course wear and tear on your vehicle. I don't now an Email to Denny and having it dropped at my door step sounds pretty good to me.

  13. This unit looks and works like new.. Before I purchased I called RBI...I was told unit is 23 years old lt has from what I understand the better Dayton dc motor..I have been playing with it and changing out the blades so when I finally use it for something I am more proficient ..I love the fact it is made in America for that alone I love it. And now I know the difference between this and the Wen I purchased...anyone want to buy a slightly used saw.

Nice score. I love my 27 year old RBI and it still hums along perfectly. Those older scrollsaws were built to last.

    Hello All

My introduction to the scroll saw was in 1981. I was a freshman in high school and took Carpentry and Woodworking. There were 3-4 scroll saws along a wall. The teacher, due to budget constraints I’m sure, did not buy scroll saw blades. Instead, he cut up broken band saw blades. As you can imagine, the performance was not impressive. I realized the bandsaws performed much better and only used them. Flash forward to 2020, I lose my job to COVID cutbacks and decide to make woodworking a business. I see videos on scroll saws and the rest is history. I purchased a Delta at $342 from Amazon and have now discovered Intarsia.

    DW blower

I went through the problem of having the blower tube loosen up and finally fall off. Tried hot melt glue, duct tape and so forth with no success. Finally found a fix. Too cheeep to buy a new one at #27 or so. Instead I used 1/2 inch 3:1 heat shrink tubing. I found the type that has hot melt glue inside. Put about and inch over the end of the blower hose. Had to trim a bit of the hose to get the 1/2 inch to slip over the end. Used a heat gun to shrink the tubing while holding the hose end tight to the round fitting and shrunk the heat shrink stuff. When it cooled i found it tighter than when new.

  25. This is a custom order request. The pattern is by Harvey Byler purchased from WoodCraftByScott.com. I enlarged the pattern by 10%. Cut at home on the EX21 using FD UR #5 blades. The wood is Poplar approximately 7" x 9". Sanded with the Mac Mop and dipped in Shellac diluted 50% with alcohol. Comments welcome.

    Tried New Frames

Both are made with red oak. Pattern is from the pattern library and was made by Kris Matinson. I wanted to try making something different for the frames. Wanted a more 3D look so put panel in what would be normally backwards. An other one wanted to try 8 sided frame.

I like this. I also like the trick of using a biscuit jointer to make the slot for the flame, very clever (and safer than some other ways to get the slot cut)

Bearwood is not cheap. I was going to buy a pegas at the start of covid because I couldn't get a seyco shipped. It would have been 250$ more then my Excelsior.

  45. Funny Kevin. I use denatured Alcohol. I find that by dipping the pieces, it gets into all the little areas. Also, diluted dries quickly and does not affect the fit.
