I know, another Eagle
Alexander Fadeev and 9 others reacted to FrankEV for a topic
I cut this 11X14 Alex Fox Pattern titled Eagle-Flag from 1/4 inch thick Oak solid core plywood, that I stained with Minwax Weathered Oak stain to enhance the Oak color. The cut panel was affixed it to a 1/4 inch thick Mahogany solid core plywood backer that I darkened with Minwax Mahogany stain to improve the contrast. The panel was finished with multiple coats of spray lacquer. The cut was done exclusively with Pegas #0 spiral blades. Cutting the Oak was slightly more challenging than the Maple or BB Plywood I usually use. Had to cut a little slower and even the cutting sound was different. After the cut was complete the vertical grain alignment produced an interesting look. The panel is loose fit into a solid Red Oak Frame which I made and also darkened with the Minwax Mahogany stain. The Frame was finished with multiple coats of clear Gloss Polyurethane.10 points -

Hi all! First time here, brand new to this whole thing, and finding myself currently addicted to this new hobby. My grandpa gifted me one of his scroll saws a few weeks ago. I've been waiting years because I love his work. So he taught me the basics - how to use the saw, blades, patterns (very different from my wood burning process), sent me here for tips and told me to start small. That last part I'm not so great at, so I know this has some rough edges, but I am pretty excited with my first project. You all have such beautiful work I thought I'd share too. Many lessons learned - number one- glow paint is not as cool as I hoped (very goopy) and I'm super excited to start my next project.6 points -

Well it is all over, great turn out beautiful day for us at this time of the year, low 70. I sold my sugar bush marquetry for the asking price and made over $1200 on the day. Now I have room to store more crafts for next year and buy more wood.4 points -
Hawk dust collection
Goat and 2 others reacted to Brokentone for a topic
I just finished a Dust collector for my 220 ultra using some hints L I got fro this forum. And some of my own. I am quite pleased with the result. I used the metro as, small cyclone and 6”pvc coupling for the collector. After cutting there was no dust on saw, just a few chips and no dust in the air. It kept the line clear. Pics show the condition after cutting those bb plywood ornaments there was no dust under the table as was usually. Need to get better pickup above table3 points -

1955 Dodge Lancer In 1954 Dodge was on the edge of a possible bankruptcy but was saved with a 250 Mil. loan from Prudential bank. Dodge brought in designer Virgil Exner to bring on updated styling to attract new customers. All models had 2 tone paint. These models included the Coronet 2 and 4 door, Custom Royal and Royal Lancer in 2 and 4 door and a convertible Custom Royal Lancer. Transmissions were 3 speed shift and auto and engines ranged from 230 to 360 cubic inch V-8's. This model design was only produced in 1955 and 1956. Actually, the picture does not do them justice. The cutting and finish is superb! Earlier in the year, I sent Marg a copy of a pattern by mail. She lives in Australia and I’m in So. California. It took three months to get to her! So we decided to send our ornaments early in case of the same delay. Brendas got to the UK in about two week, and Marg got hers in about a month. It’s unfortunate what this pandemic is forcing us to do! Marg and I have been exchanging ornaments for years and we invited Brenda last year. It a fun project that I encourage you to try with other members. Unfortunately, it’s become very expensive to ship overseas, but still very worth it!2 points -
GETTING SOME CHRISTMAS ITEMS DONE
ChelCass reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
I have made one each for the married couples in our family. Somewhere around 30 of them. These will be going to the ones we exchange gifts with as well as those we do not. Everyone will know we are thinking about them this way. It isn't much but then the cost out of our pockets are minimal too. I am now in the process of making names for the grandkids and should finish them tomorrow. Dick heppnergyt1 point -

Hi all, I just bought my first scroll saw (Delta) this weekend, so I'm still dealing with the very basics. In the short term, I want to get my work area setup and get enough practice in with the saw to make some nice holiday things for the family. Long term, perhaps this hobby can pay for itself. I've learned so much reading old posts on this forum and I look forward to contributing. -Cory1 point -

What a great grandfather to share his love of the scroll saw and to gift you one of his saws. Treasure it and learn all you can from him and this site. Congratulations on finishing your first project. Remember, everyone has an opinion and different likes but it is your art you are crafting so create what speaks to you. Keep up your work and keep learning and don’t be afraid to try new things or new ideas.1 point

Good question. Hegner would do well by marking, etching or whatever, the size of the holder. All my machine tools, collets, end mills, taps and others are marked. Whatever nickle or dime it would be offset by customer appreciation and loyalty.1 point

Found this little guy over on Etsy ("DXFpage") and thought it would be a fun cut. Not too many pilot holes, maybe 25 or so, but.....dang. All that fur is just jagged lines and thin margins! So...yep, DEFINITELY a fun cut! Double-cut from 3/8" bbply, Pegas #1MG blades (two, I think). Its been a busy couple of weeks so it took me a lot longer (calendar-wise) than I thought it would, but probably close to 10-12 hours tops. The project will be stained dark, I'm thinking Minwax Ebony or Provincial, and I'm thinking about a couple of backer options...may just go with a flat ply backer, stained a lighter shade to contrast. I have a bunch of old pallet wood that would look cool, but I think it'll end up too dark even with a light oak stain. We'll see.1 point -

I saw this TDpainter pattern a while back and just got around to cutting it. It has a special place above the fireplace with the urn that holds our 14 yr old orange tabby cat "BOO". He was a very good pet and companion for many years. We had to put him down last March, the DR thought it was cancer and at his age it was better for him. We miss him.1 point -
Autumn - Scroll Saw Challenge
Jronn65 reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
One old, one new....old one is a Steve Good (I believe) Thanksgiving trivet. The other is a Steve Good bowl I just finished up....as a kid, Dad was in the Air Force and we were stationed a thousand miles away (or more, depending on the year) from the rest of the family, but when we would get to visit with the grandparents, Mamaw would ALWAYS have a bowl or two of candy sitting around. Didn't matter if it was Thanksgiving or Christmas, there was a bowl of those fancy hard candies you only find during the holidays, and a bowl of those peppermint nougat things that I came to love. So having a bowl for snacky-stuff is always handy. The SteveGood pattern calls for 1/4" stock, I used 1/2" ply to make it a bit taller....more munchies is not a bad thing, is it?1 point -

Wife is really testing my skill and other things for my craft show
Phantom Scroller reacted to scrollerpete for a topic
The wife is making door hangers and she comes to the shop to have me cutting some stuff for her to use (happy wife is a happy life). Managed to cut some other stuff for the craft show Saturday. Bowls pattern from Sheila Landry, I cut some plexiglass to used on theLED base lights and since I used 1/8” BB backup with blue tape on to help the cut, we decided how about making napkins holder with them. Had time to cut the trivet, anxious to see how things turn out. I couldn’t resist to cut Steve Good pattern about “hand made with a scrollsaw” Enjoy1 point -

Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. It seems the problem is the drill and drill bit, not the packing tape. And I was using too large a drill bit. All has changed. I bought a roll of blue tape and a new Pegas scroll saw. (I might have the order of importance reversed.) Bottom feeding, or top feeding for that matter, are much easier with the Pegas. So I can use a smaller, and hopefully sharper, drill bit. So maybe it won't matter if I do not change the speed on my drill press. Did I mention I got a new Pegas today! I already love it. BTW, I love this SSV. You guys are great!1 point
