The Harbor freight bag is rated at 5 microns. My first DC was a small Jet that I moved from tool to tool, it had a bag. I once had the hose blow off of my Dewalt 735 which has a built in blower OMG. It was great for my planer and table saw. I have since centralized my system. I have Jet Vortex setup with the canister filter it is specked at Canister Efficiency 86% of 1 micron particles; 98% of 2 micron particles. The Festool HEPA filter filter particles to 0.3 microns with 99.97% efficiency, Now I know why I don't smell anything. The only problem with the Festool Vacuum is it is basically useless for general shop cleanup. It is meant for sanders and sawdust. Lots of particle size chats on the web.3 points

I have a little shop too. No place to hang anything. I even found a nice wall clock in our dumpster. After taking the little motor apart and getting it working again, my wife asked me where I planned on hanging it. I looked at her with my standard dumb look and said "I have no idea'.3 points

GETTING SOME CHRISTMAS ITEMS DONE
ChelCass and one other reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
I have made one each for the married couples in our family. Somewhere around 30 of them. These will be going to the ones we exchange gifts with as well as those we do not. Everyone will know we are thinking about them this way. It isn't much but then the cost out of our pockets are minimal too. I am now in the process of making names for the grandkids and should finish them tomorrow. Dick heppnergyt2 points -

LOCKDOWN XMAS ORNAMENT
amazingkevin and one other reacted to FrankEV for a topic
Tony, hope you don't mind me jumping onto your thread. Just thought I would just add my 8" dia version from the original pattern unmodified. Cut panel is 5/32" Maple solid core ply affixed to a 1/2" thk sanded ply backer. Too large and heavy to be a real tree onament so I just made it a plaque that will be hung on a wall when I decorate for christmas. I used some Red, Green and Black Acrylic Craft paint to add some color. Cut with Pegas #0 Spiral blades and finished with multiple coasts of clear gloss Polyurethane as it may be hung outside. I can see in the pic my cutting is not as good as Tony's. I think I hurried a little too much. However, when viewed from a distance it looks OK. Thanks to meflick for posting up the link to the Pattern. I sure others will jump on this pattern and cut their version.2 points -

I have Rolf. What a project. I did it for two reasons. First insurance and then if I pass on before my sweet heart she will have a sense of what to sell the stuff for. I took pictures of everything and made an excel spreadsheet with this info: tool brand name and description model # serial # when purchased where purchased initial cost currant replacement cost I'm pretty sure I didn't get EVERYTHING, but I got all the big stuff. I even listed shop made tools like sleds, clamps. Gotta run let me know if you need more.2 points

I have done "some" but really need to do a deep cleaning and really go through everything.. I'm not sure what you mean by bar coding.. What I do is photograph my tools and their serial numbers.. The purchase values are for the most part are receipts from my purchase of said tools.. I can upload the photos in my book keeping of the receipts and serial numbers.. so.. I think I'd be covered some by just that info being easily accessed. which for most of my woodworking stuff is recorded in my book keeping for my business which is all online.. and easily searched. For instance I can search Bushton MFG and it brings up all my purchases.. or Artcrafters.. brings up all the blades I've bought.. Can search specific categories like office equipment and search when I bought my printer.. serial numbers for that etc.. Without the business book keeping I'm not sure how I'd go about it.. maybe a app or something? I know people do photos and put on a thumb drive or cd disc etc.. I'd consider going one step further and making a icloud or google drive account where this can be stored so if the house burn down you don't loose the thumb drive or cd.. Be an interesting topic to see what others do or think should be done.. I'm far from experienced in this sort of thing, LOL2 points

My shop is in the basement right under our great room, and not far from my furnace. My wife spends a lot of her time in the great room.. So not only noise but dust is a major factor for me. I stack cut a lot of baltic Birch, I don't know about you guys but I can't stand the smell. I used to wear a half mask with side canisters. The HEPA filter in the Festool removes not only the dust but there is no smell! There will be no inheritance when I am done. LOL.2 points

My pattern printer is an old HP Laserjet that keeps on working. For printing different sizes, you will need software to adjust the sizes that you want, but the right software will let you do many different things. I use Photo Shop and Affinity. Either one lets me add many small patterns to a single sheet, so I don't waste paper. Many programs can do this, as well as let you design your own patterns. Some are free, and some not. I'm a pro photographer, so I use Photoshop and Affinity for working on my photo projects as well as my scroll saw patterns. Charley2 points

I currently have a brother laser, without scanner. I love it, but do miss the scanner from time to time. If I needed one today I would buy this one, a laser all-in-one. I like the laser printers because the toner doesn't dry out between uses like inkjets often do, and the toner seems to last forever. I think I have bought tonner cartridge 2 times in 5 years.2 points

A friend wanted something for her front door with her grandkids' names on it.So I don't know if this is called segmented,or a puzzle, but it was different than anything I've tried before and was fun and challenging both.Cutting was the fun part,as usual, but figuring out what to cut and how to shape it was the challenge. The main thing is,I had fun and she was thrilled,so a win win.2 points -

Hello again! Last time, I was so warmly welcomed here that I decided to look here again. First of all, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the participants who, one way or another, noted in my previous topic. I want to say a special thank you to those people who did not spare their precious time and were able to find and write a few warm words for me. I appreciate it. Well, now, I will continue if I may. Well I have been staying busy, I have been cutting a lot of Railroad Heralds, Locomotives, Star trek ships, all for myself.to adorn the walls of my little shop. I would Love to show you but I am unable to. My printer finally bit the dust, it had a SD port for my camera card. Now I am unable to upload my pics. I don't know how with my cell phone, although my Granddaughters have showed me several times, just not to tech savy, I have found a printer that has a SD port hope to get it soon..Then I can show off my Little shop.1 point

Lived in the same house for over 45 years. Every 3-5 years, I get the urge to reach the final solution to the shop out in the garage (this excludes gasoline and a match). A new shelf here, equipment moved there, sell some equipment, buy some equipment, pick my nose a few times for good measure, etc etc. And when I'm finished to perfection, it's back to total chaos in 2 months. Such is life!1 point -

I'm very happy with the Wen. I did have to replace the electronics in it. It would turn itself on when I wasn't around. It was picking up a signal from something in the area. I contacted Wen and they sent me a new receiver for it. I haven't had any problem since. I like the feature that it will run for an hour after I leave the shop. I cleaned the pre-filter in it and it is catching a ton of dust. I compared the cfm of it and the more expensive ones. It's a bit less but not enough to make me upgrade. I'm old so I do things as cheaply as possible. No sense buying all the super expensive stuff at my age just so somebody else can enjoy it. Lol!1 point

That Jet setup does look nice. I'd need to save up for that system. So is something that is rated at 5 microns like the HF safe for in house cutting? Is there a safe option for $300 or less? Or should I wait until I can get one of these $750 units? I plan to get that Wen air filtration system. My 2097 3M filters claim 0.3 particle filtration, so I should be OK while the mask is on. Just want to be sure we are OK once the mask is off.1 point

Reminds me of why I dislike the never ending winters in Minnesota. After Super Bowl, "what now?? Hmmmmm...Think I'll inventory my life. Maybe finally organize those books (in the Dewey Decimal system, of course) now let's roam the house with a level, to REALLY get those photos straight and dusted.1 point

How do you like that Wen air filter? I'm about to purchase an air filter and didn't know about these more affordable ones. Rockler only told me about the Jet system which is $400. Do you know if the Jet is really worth the extra investment? Or are they more for a big shop?1 point

This place was the only place I could find some of the parts.. They have a parts look-up by model number etc. too.. This was several years ago though.. like 2005 -6 ish.. Not sure if they still have this stuff.. This was before I ever heard of ereplacementparts1 point

I've had pretty good luck using eReplacementparts.com. They aren't cheap but when you need something you just have to grin and bear it. I've also used the Dewalt parts line too. They have a parts/repair center about an hour from me.1 point -
Thurman, to answer your question, I have a Fein vac running a Dust Deputy before it. The filter inside of the vac is spotless. That cyclone does a fantastic job. I also bought a Wen air filter that is mounted up over my head in my tiny shop. It does a great job of catching what small dust is in the air. I wear a face mask that has the changeable cartridges. So, I'm fairly sure that I have a set up that is working as close to 100% as I can get. Shop around on C/L for used Fein vacs. I only had to wait about 2 weeks for mine to come up for sale. I got it with a 16 foot hose in almost new condition for $175. I'm very happy with my setup.1 point

One old, one new....old one is a Steve Good (I believe) Thanksgiving trivet. The other is a Steve Good bowl I just finished up....as a kid, Dad was in the Air Force and we were stationed a thousand miles away (or more, depending on the year) from the rest of the family, but when we would get to visit with the grandparents, Mamaw would ALWAYS have a bowl or two of candy sitting around. Didn't matter if it was Thanksgiving or Christmas, there was a bowl of those fancy hard candies you only find during the holidays, and a bowl of those peppermint nougat things that I came to love. So having a bowl for snacky-stuff is always handy. The SteveGood pattern calls for 1/4" stock, I used 1/2" ply to make it a bit taller....more munchies is not a bad thing, is it?1 point -
