  1. Hi everyone. I just received this package today from Kevin (Amazingkevin). He was kind enough to do all this work for me since all my saws and tools are in storage on there way to Florida. He did 21 ornaments and two princess Zoie plaques and he also was able to do the special letter from my 8 year old great granddaughter, thanks to Travis who was able to make a pattern out of it for me. He really saved me this year because I wasn't going to be able to do any Christmas stuff for all my Grandkids. He's still working on a box for me to. Thanks again Kevin.

  2. Hi ppl's not cut in weeks, just not had time, finally got to my saw, took the idea from Frank "think it was his" the pic is Bowmore main St where we grew up on Islay with the round church at the top "so the devil can't hide in the corner" it's a house warming prezzie for my wee mum she just downsized, she is 81 needed a smaller house, she misses living there so much, so every day she can see it, it's A2 size, sticking 4 x A4 sheets was a nightmare

  4. I continued to make the split letters for the rest of the family.. just a repeat sort of post, so I did not include any of them and did a couple of new requests that I made and mailed off but did not take photos of. Here are four that I did for the our 5 month old new great grandkids. I used an initial teddy bear pattern from Steve Good but put in the baby's names in place of the initial. I don't remember posting the John Wayne piece I did for my new son in law but if I did I am sorry for the repeat. The same on the custom plaque for my wife's niece. I have been busy almost daily in my shop and I think I am about finished, which is good as we are going to be bomb barded with company through the holidays. Dick heppnerguy

    Black or brown backer

This is today’s project. Which backer should I use, brown or black! In this particular choice, your vote will count. No dominion software is being used! Only vote if your alive! Votes casted tomorrow will not count, even if it’s mailed in!

    A good market

I couldn't see another suitable to place to post this. Had a good day at the local monthly markets today. I had concentrated on making stand-up puzzles over the last couple of weeks and had about 25, along with portraits etc to take along. looks like I'll be making more puzzles this month as I put $390 in the sky-rocket . The markets run from 8am - 1pm. Glad they were today when the temp was only 26c not on Wednesday when it is reckoned to reach 39c

  8. I found a pattern a while back and decided to make another lamp. The hummingbird pattern came from Pinterest and the frame is made from 1/4" oak. I rip cut oak strips and I cut the 45 degree chamfers on the router. LED bulb inside with a roller line switch. Finish is shellac with gloss lacquer.

  9. With Dan's permission I can show you the ornaments that he sent to me. They are beautiful and they are perfect. They are cut from all the same type of would, even though it doesn't look like it. They will hang with all the other wooden ornament that he has sent over the last few years. At this rate I will need a bigger tree. Marg

    Gift for a friend

A friend of mine lost her mom a couple of months ago and night before last her house burned. She's a Christian lady and I thought the words from an old favorite hymn of mine were fitting. Beautiful piece of walnut given to me by a friend.

    Tool inventory

I have Rolf. What a project. I did it for two reasons. First insurance and then if I pass on before my sweet heart she will have a sense of what to sell the stuff for. I took pictures of everything and made an excel spreadsheet with this info: tool brand name and description model # serial # when purchased where purchased initial cost currant replacement cost I'm pretty sure I didn't get EVERYTHING, but I got all the big stuff. I even listed shop made tools like sleds, clamps. Gotta run let me know if you need more.

    Snow Globe

This was a pattern I bought off of Etsy that I thought was interesting. The pattern was not detailed at all with very fuzzy lines so I did the best I could. It's a little rough but I do love the layered look. Still have a long list to get through before Christmas!

  16. Very nice. My lady would love it as she loves humingbirds. I've aready cut 3 Humingbird plaques for her. What is the orange tranlucent material you used? Could you post a link to that Pinterest pattern. Would be much appreciated.

You maight want to try a lacquer sanding sealer before sanding and finishing with the lacquer. I use it on soft wood like pine.

    Web Site

Yep, 25/30 years ago. Not that long ago considering how old the earth is. Not many people knew of Amazon or Jeff Bezos back then. Now look where he is at. The richest person on the planet because of a vision. The competition got a bit much for me at that time. I was 70 then and didn't want to fight for a tiny slice of the pie anymore. It's been almost 11 years and I'll soon be 81 and doing what I like in my basement workshop. It's just getting a little harder to navigate those darn stairs. But I'm still plugging along and I'll keep doing what I'm doing until I can't.

    Web Site

Same here.. and now days... everyone wants a piece of the internet sales pie.. everybody and their brother and sister is trying to make a business online... A LOT more competition now than there was 25 years ago when I started a website selling tractor parts.. Now you can go to eBay and other places and get those same parts for less than I paid for them.. Took me a while to figure out how they was doing it.. but I caught on and could start it back up.. But at the moment I am enjoying what I do.. when I get tired of making my crafts and want something different... I'll move on.. at least I'm not stuck on the same assembly line day in day out 8 days a week at some factory.. or working in the autobody collision repair working with all the dangerous paint chemicals etc.. $30 + or - a month may seem like a lot of money but when you have tech issues with your website and you cant get sales because the site is down.. you could loose a lot of money.. and time spent getting the site up is time away from making product.. when the venues go down they have a tech team and typically restoring it in a short amount of time.. Another reason I sell on several sites.. if a site goes down.. I'm still getting sales on one or more of the other sites..

    Square gears

A Steve Good pattern. This was a quick cut, even though the pattern has two gears on it, I stack-cut the gears and washers. I modded the backer a bit so that it would fit in a base and be free-standing, and added a small crank (just a 1/4" piece of dowel inset and glued to the top gear). 1/2" ply for the gears, 1/8 for the washers, 1/4" dowel for the axles/crank, and 1/2" pine for backer and base. Took about two hours from printing the pattern to staining. Minwax Espresso and Natural stains. The gears do turn and mesh well, but a word of caution. When gluing in the axles after dry-fitting and staining, make sure they're perfectly straight up and down. I think one of mine got a fraction off, or the stain caused the wood to swell more than I expected...everything still turns, but not quite as easily as the dry run. Of course, that could also be because the posts were not glued in yet and had some wiggle-room....either way, a quick, fun pattern to cut.

  36. I did receive my Ortur a couple of weeks ago and I assembled it last weekend and got it working. I have a lot to learn though. LOL I tried the free trial of Lightburn and found it too complex for my needs so now I'm trying LaserGRBL or whatever its called. But I haven't had the time to really focus on playing and learning. I've gotten it to burn text as well as some of my images for my golf tee games so I know I have a working machine.

  37. I did get a replacement laser module from ortur; but i have not yet three weeks later tried it again. I was using lightburn.

    Staying Busy.

Well I have been staying busy, I have been cutting a lot of Railroad Heralds, Locomotives, Star trek ships, all for myself.to adorn the walls of my little shop. I would Love to show you but I am unable to. My printer finally bit the dust, it had a SD port for my camera card. Now I am unable to upload my pics. I don't know how with my cell phone, although my Granddaughters have showed me several times, just not to tech savy, I have found a printer that has a SD port hope to get it soon..Then I can show off my Little shop.

Alder, if Western Red. is a fine grain reddish wood, cuts nicely. A bit soft, sands easily.

  44. Tony, hope you don't mind me jumping onto your thread. Just thought I would just add my 8" dia version from the original pattern unmodified. Cut panel is 5/32" Maple solid core ply affixed to a 1/2" thk sanded ply backer. Too large and heavy to be a real tree onament so I just made it a plaque that will be hung on a wall when I decorate for christmas. I used some Red, Green and Black Acrylic Craft paint to add some color. Cut with Pegas #0 Spiral blades and finished with multiple coasts of clear gloss Polyurethane as it may be hung outside. I can see in the pic my cutting is not as good as Tony's. I think I hurried a little too much. However, when viewed from a distance it looks OK. Thanks to meflick for posting up the link to the Pattern. I sure others will jump on this pattern and cut their version.

    Staying Busy.

I have a little shop too. No place to hang anything. I even found a nice wall clock in our dumpster. After taking the little motor apart and getting it working again, my wife asked me where I planned on hanging it. I looked at her with my standard dumb look and said "I have no idea'.
