  3. Here is a couple more Christmas gifts I did in my shop. I meant to post them but thought I had forgotten to even taken a photo of them, until I ran across these in my emails to myself. The Native American with the eagle and the fox I made this for a Native American friend of ours. The 35 Ford is one a few that I have made for myself because it is a favorite car of mine. Something about this car that I have always admired, I never owned one though. Dick heppnerguy

  5. I found a pattern a while back and decided to make another lamp. The hummingbird pattern came from Pinterest and the frame is made from 1/4" oak. I rip cut oak strips and I cut the 45 degree chamfers on the router. LED bulb inside with a roller line switch. Finish is shellac with gloss lacquer.

I still need to make some puzzle and cars me and Volunteers we call them Santa~ I feel ChrisMas came early. it's bit early but merry christmas https://www.etsy.com/shop/Namunolie

  7. Following a fantastic vacation at this beautiful national park in Montana, I decided to create a scrollsaw piece of the animals we had encountered during this visit. Interestingly, the frame was constructed first from spalted white oak and then the animals were completed.

  8. Hi everyone. I just received this package today from Kevin (Amazingkevin). He was kind enough to do all this work for me since all my saws and tools are in storage on there way to Florida. He did 21 ornaments and two princess Zoie plaques and he also was able to do the special letter from my 8 year old great granddaughter, thanks to Travis who was able to make a pattern out of it for me. He really saved me this year because I wasn't going to be able to do any Christmas stuff for all my Grandkids. He's still working on a box for me to. Thanks again Kevin.

    Chinese Dragon

This is an Alex Fox pattern I resized slightly to fit a 10X17 Panel. The cut panel is 5/32” Maple solid core plywood affixed to a 1/4” BB backer. The Backer was painted with a combination of wet coats of Black and Dark Green spray in an attempt to add a slight green tint to the background color. Did not quite get the effect I was looking for as the Black was dominant. The finished panel was finished with multiple coats of spray clear gloss Lacquer. The cut was done with Pegas #0 and #1 spiral blades. The cutting was relatively easy although a lot of the cut pattern consists of a many very small repetitive shaped cuts and therefore, I found, a little boring. However, the completed cut, I feel, turned out nice and very unique. The panel is set loose in a custom made poplar frame that I stained with Minwax Ebony stain and protected with multiple coats of clear gloss Polyurethane. The following pics were taken with two different lighting conditions. The first photo is more true color.

Hi ppl's not cut in weeks, just not had time, finally got to my saw, took the idea from Frank "think it was his" the pic is Bowmore main St where we grew up on Islay with the round church at the top "so the devil can't hide in the corner" it's a house warming prezzie for my wee mum she just downsized, she is 81 needed a smaller house, she misses living there so much, so every day she can see it, it's A2 size, sticking 4 x A4 sheets was a nightmare

    Tool inventory

I know that I should have an inventory of my stuff, especially because I am an insurance broker! But what I know and what I do are very different. Hubby should also have an inventory of all his guitars!! I think we have pictures of them all. Certainly not enough info should we have a catastrophic loss. Others here are waaayyy to organized!! Kudos to you though.

  16. I know that we have had a ton of discussion on dust collection and recently a few folks have posted pics of what they have designed for their particular saws. For all that, I thank you all because I have picked up a ton of great ideas. But, with that said, I doubt most of us really understand "dust collection" so I thought I'd post this link to a great video that I just came across and watched. I learned a lot I hope you do too.

    A good market

I couldn't see another suitable to place to post this. Had a good day at the local monthly markets today. I had concentrated on making stand-up puzzles over the last couple of weeks and had about 25, along with portraits etc to take along. looks like I'll be making more puzzles this month as I put $390 in the sky-rocket . The markets run from 8am - 1pm. Glad they were today when the temp was only 26c not on Wednesday when it is reckoned to reach 39c

  20. Top 2 drawers on my scroll saw cart in test tubes, 0/2 thru #3 in top drawer #5 and larger in second drawer. The tubes I use fit perfectly in the holes in the frame of the saw so the current tube for the blade I am using goes there. If I put a used blade back in a tube I put a tiny piece of blue tape on the end.

    Web Site

Yep, 25/30 years ago. Not that long ago considering how old the earth is. Not many people knew of Amazon or Jeff Bezos back then. Now look where he is at. The richest person on the planet because of a vision. The competition got a bit much for me at that time. I was 70 then and didn't want to fight for a tiny slice of the pie anymore. It's been almost 11 years and I'll soon be 81 and doing what I like in my basement workshop. It's just getting a little harder to navigate those darn stairs. But I'm still plugging along and I'll keep doing what I'm doing until I can't.

Years ago I borrowed a camcorder and video taped all of my tools in the shop and personal items in the house & stored the tape in our safety deposit box at the bank. After reading this thread I was reminded I hadn't updated this in a long time & after talking about this to the LOML she reminded me we don't even own a VCR. Good time to do this all over again.

    Hawk dust collection

I've never heard of it. And I see you can buy one at Menard's for $81. For that small price, I'd give it a try but I wouldn't expect too much out of it. I'll bet it will be noisy and if it is that good at filtering out the dust, it might not suck well. But, like I said, for $81 I'd buy one and figure at the worst I'd have a good shop vacuum for cleaning up the place.

I keep an Excel spreadsheet with all my tool info including pictures up to date. I did this several years ago after my sister had a theft of a bunch of tools out of her garage, She keeps meticulous records of everything, the LEO was shocked when she pulled out all the info on all the stolen tools. They actually found everything because she had pictures and serial numbers of everything. Also you should check your insurance policy to be sure you have enough coverage, I had to increase my content coverage to include the value of my tools.

  44. I have my items in a store locally its in a small rural town and called The Country Boutique. She charges a 25% commission on everything sold. I've had stuff in there about a month now and made a few sales nothing to write home about though. She had a Halloween event and we went over and took a scroll saw and cut little puzzles for the kids just to get our name out in the area. She does a great job promoting the stuff on social media and she also sells it online too. Everything we bring is posted to her website for people to buy for store pickup or shipping. So that aspect has been great and I think it will go good in the long run. She pays weekly through Square Payroll so I don't have to go pickup a check or anything. Get to know the other vendors because they may make things that you can make a little side cash with. Example I'm cutting out some turkey's this week and the lady does a craft night with the kids where they come in and paint them. So I'm supplying the turkeys just cut from the 1/4 birch plywood from Lowes.

  47. Brenda, yes Niqua give their blade types names, such as Pebeco are standard non reverse teeth, Speed are reverse tooth blades etc. I now mainly use the Speed blades unless I'm cutting something that doesn't warrant the reverse cut, ie. compound cutting, or metal and plastics. A 2012 Niqua catalogue in PDF form you can have a look at. Niqua_Katalog_Holzlaubsaegen.pdf

  48. Brenda, if you want to stick with Niqua and buy in the UK then try Original Marquetry, http://www.originalmarquetry.co.uk/category_Fret_Saw_Blades_1.htm they have a wide range but postage could be expensive. or HegnerUK, https://www.hegner.co.uk/products/spares-accessories/scrollsaw-bla or Hobbies sell 2/0 blades but are out of sock in the gross bundle. https://www.hobbies.co.uk/tools/power-tools/yellow-label-fretsaw-b I have used all 3 but have settled with HegnerUK for the time being. If you don't mind buying from the USA then Mikes Workshop, they're called Flying Dutchman blades but are in fact Niqua blades renamed by Mike Moorlach for the American market. https://mikesworkshop.com/collections/blades

  49. Thanks Steve, however, I've looked everywhere for a 2/0 blade and can't find any. I usually use Niqua.
    1 point
  50. #3 is a pretty big blade for that thickness so you might try a smaller one. I use a 2/0 for 1/8" bb on the very slowest speed the saw will go. Notice how the blow outs are all on the cross grain edges. The lines that are going with the grain seem fine. Just something to keep in mind when laying out the pattern on the wood. Dont know what type saw you are using but if you have a larger size hole where the blade goes into the table, that is where the wood is unsupported during the cutting so those tiny extra vibrations can cause this too. A zero tolerance thing might help fill that hole a bit. I live by the beach and keep my wood near an open window and think that some pieces seem to be more affected buy that then others. Like the glue reacts differently somehow. Of course I cant tell until I start cutting but sometimes have to just start over with a different piece and its fine. Just something to think about.
