Cut 12 of these from 1/8" BB ply from a Steve Good pattern. Left them natural. Used a #7 FD-UR for the veining.

This is an Alex Fox pattern I resized slightly to fit a 10X17 Panel. The cut panel is 5/32” Maple solid core plywood affixed to a 1/4” BB backer. The Backer was painted with a combination of wet coats of Black and Dark Green spray in an attempt to add a slight green tint to the background color. Did not quite get the effect I was looking for as the Black was dominant. The finished panel was finished with multiple coats of spray clear gloss Lacquer. The cut was done with Pegas #0 and #1 spiral blades. The cutting was relatively easy although a lot of the cut pattern consists of a many very small repetitive shaped cuts and therefore, I found, a little boring. However, the completed cut, I feel, turned out nice and very unique. The panel is set loose in a custom made poplar frame that I stained with Minwax Ebony stain and protected with multiple coats of clear gloss Polyurethane. The following pics were taken with two different lighting conditions. The first photo is more true color.

  4. We've been very busy keeping up with orders from our Saturday craft fair event. Here are a few of the custom order items we've been providing for our customers. All the animals have started out as Harvey Byler patterns And again, thanks to @Iguanadon for his continued help and support... One customer has 8 Boxers and wanted a harness holder: Another customer wanted their name immortalized A customer ordered 9 custom named items! Here are 3 of the Key Hangers they are ordered And yet another customer ordered 2 Puzzles and 2 Leash Hangers. No customizing except for a non-puzzle creation We have a bunch more custom items coming. Thanks as always in advance for reading...

    Names Name Names

Every year I do a few name ornaments from 1/4 inch birch ply for 5 bucks. I stack cut them just to make sure of no breakage so customers get two for one. This year they blew up! I've done over 50 different names so far this year. Can't even fit them all in the picture!

  6. Following a fantastic vacation at this beautiful national park in Montana, I decided to create a scrollsaw piece of the animals we had encountered during this visit. Interestingly, the frame was constructed first from spalted white oak and then the animals were completed.

    Time to Return

Well, for some reason, around last may, I decided I needed a break from scrolling.... I think I kinda got burned out and I also had neglected other important things because of the hobby. Anyway... I did check in here once in a while just to see what was going on in the scrolling world... A couple weeks ago, I spotted a post by @heppnerguy of a cutting he had done of a Fiona Kingdon patter that was in the last issue of SSW. I really loved what he had done. I don't take the magazine anymore and thought about ordering the issue,,, but with the cost of the mag and shipping... na, I think not. A couple days latter, I was at a grocery store with my wife, and we were by the magazine rack and there, the first thing I saw was the latest issue of SSW. I thought it must be an omen! So I bought it. Just finished cutting the pattern yesterday. I wasn't sure I would make it through the cutting because it has been a while and it is not a simple pattern. But, I did and am happy with the results... I haven't applied a finish yet. I think I want to dip it and then spray with Deft Clear coat, but I also want to plan around with a stain glass for a backer.... I don't have any stain glass so I will have to learn something about that. I cut it in 1/2" Beech. By the way, I did really miss the form, I am going to limit my time spent here, but very happy to be somewhat involved again... I have browsed around some and see some great projects have been done.

  13. I may behind the curve, but in case others look for the Duck brand shelf liner, it's back at Amazon at the price of $5.84 a roll. I noticed it available at Walmart a couple days ago at the same price and ordered 12 rolls, being delivered today. Prior to that I was having to get it from Michael's online, but they've quit carrying... It's a moving target at times finding it at all and/or at the right price, so I wanted to be sure to mention it. I stockpile it every time I find it just in case it jumps back up to $8.64 a roll everywhere. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002AS9NC6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&fbclid=IwAR2sNQY2hHzBKvz_jiMwVp2_yPg0C5n7w0M6nOadY0pchQZ-5_17eDMpePU For any newbies who may not be familiar with how many scrollers use it, I did a video... https://youtu.be/LPjY8lEnAA4

  14. I would like larger planer. My wife ask me when she bought a jointer if that was the last tool I needed. Of course I said yes. Since the jointer I have gotten a router table and lift, a new scrollsaw, 2nd 14" bandsaw, lathe and a grinder so I stretched the truth a little bit.

    Hello Everyone

Hi everyone... My name is Dan and I'm a scrollaholic... I'm from northwest Pennsylvania near Punxsutawney... Thank you for letting me join you all in this group.... I am very new to scroll sawing like ten days... My saw is cheap and shakey but I am really enjoying it so far... My goal is to save enough money to actually buy a higher quality saw I just really can't believe how much fun I am having making different things and learning more about the different things that are possible to make.. I hope to get to know some people and share my growth with you all in this new hobby..

    Snow Globe

This was a pattern I bought off of Etsy that I thought was interesting. The pattern was not detailed at all with very fuzzy lines so I did the best I could. It's a little rough but I do love the layered look. Still have a long list to get through before Christmas!

    Hawk dust collection

I just went to the website for the Metropolitan Vacuum Company. They are the makers of the MetroVac500 and many other innovative items. I wrote a letter to them explaining that they might be missing out on a niche business out here with all the scrollers who are concerned with the fine dust and want to keep as much of it confined and caught as possible. I explained that some of us are using their products now but not as effectively as we might be able to if they designed, built and sold a vac system that could work on our saws with minor retrofitting. I left my name, address and phone number so we'll see if I get any contact back from them. They build some neat stuff for specialty industries.

    shelf liner

I was looking at the stuff one day at the dollar store and some "cat lady " was bragging about how good the stuff works.. she said she gets clear and covers her coffee table with it when the grandkids come over and they color with markers.. protects her table from a accident... then she went on talking about putting it on the wall and floor around the cats litter box in case the cats spray etc.. and instead of getting it on the wall or floor she just puts that liner down and then changes it every couple weeks.. Good ideas I suppose.. I never knew that it could be used on a shelf though as nobody ever mentioned that... I'm thinking it should be rebranded to scroll saw project liner.. I use it on my CNC router projects and when the router finishes the carving I use spray paint to paint the routed out parts then peel the liner off.. works quite well for that too..

Shelf liner vrs. painters tape.. the shelf liner is nice because it peels back off in ( most times ) one piece.. unlike tape that is only 2" wide you peel up a lot of pieces...

    shelf liner

Hey Ike, for me it's easier to use... lay it on a 6' board, spray adhesive on it to mount the patterns and after cutting it peels right off with no residue. Quick and simple. Here's a video I did a little while back... https://youtu.be/LPjY8lEnAA4

Great looking project Dan. I love that saying, However, If true, I have had an Angel or Angels hanging around for a couple years now. One shows up almost every morning banging his beak on my bathroom window. Other times, later in the day he is at other windows.he’s been around for so long most of the time I barely register it any, ore.

    Hawk dust collection

If you have a shop vac.. they make a hepa filter for your standard shop vac.. I don't use the hepa filter but do use the one for fine dust.. I also use bags as this way the dust goes into the bag and helps keep the filter clean. NOTE: they have different grades of bags.. get the ones for fine dust.. I have to say other than the noise.. my shop vac with the fine dust filter.. bags.. and I also have a muffler which is like a filter too for the exhaust.. I get literally no dust coming out of the vac.. I used this set up on my dust port of my Excalibur saw for a long time.. Oh.. I also have a dust right dust separator..

    A good market

I couldn't see another suitable to place to post this. Had a good day at the local monthly markets today. I had concentrated on making stand-up puzzles over the last couple of weeks and had about 25, along with portraits etc to take along. looks like I'll be making more puzzles this month as I put $390 in the sky-rocket . The markets run from 8am - 1pm. Glad they were today when the temp was only 26c not on Wednesday when it is reckoned to reach 39c

    Seasonal Plaque

In a post Remembrance Day "Wreath" by Frank Pellow I made the following comment: "Also a nice idea to hang a seasonal welcome sign. I have the "Happy Fall Y'all" hanging right now, just need to find a few patterns for the other seasons...snow is not quite appropriate here in Florida." I did some searching and could not find an appropriate pattern for Winter in Florida so I made this pattern. Words and trees cut from 1/4" Maple solid core Plywood and affixed to a 1/2" sanded plywood backer painted Oaisis Blue. Trees painted with acrylic craft paints. Plaque mde weather proof with multiple coats of spray clear gloss polyurethane. Come the Winter solstice I'll swap my "Happy Fall y'all" plaque for this "Welcome to Our Winter Wonderland" plaque. I've got some time to find and cut some appropriate patterns for Spring and Summer in Florida plaques. .

Hi ppl's not cut in weeks, just not had time, finally got to my saw, took the idea from Frank "think it was his" the pic is Bowmore main St where we grew up on Islay with the round church at the top "so the devil can't hide in the corner" it's a house warming prezzie for my wee mum she just downsized, she is 81 needed a smaller house, she misses living there so much, so every day she can see it, it's A2 size, sticking 4 x A4 sheets was a nightmare

    Consignment, Anyone Doing?

I just consigned a few of mine. New place that has two stores. Charges 25% and there is no tax... It's Christmas time so we will see. I have a list with my prices of items in the store. I think it's a good move, better than sitting in my shop.
