    Painted ornaments

I don't normally paint ornaments because I am useless at painting but I did these four for fun. 2 rabbits, a kitten & the Grinch. Marg

  2. Made these this morning......Larger one is 5ft T......smaller one is 3ft T.......both I used rough cut lumber that i created from standard 1x6 boards.....white washed.....lg one has colonial red & hunter green letters.....sm one just colonial red letters..... The meaning of Noel......A term signifying the holiday season, Noël comes to us from the Latin verb nasci, meaning “to be born.” In the book of Ecclesiastes, the birth of Jesus is called natalis. A variation of this word, nael, made its way into Old French as a reference to the Christmas season and later into Middle English as nowel.

    ST. MAX PORTRAIT

In this day of consolidations, our church was joined by another in our area and we selected a new patron, St. Maximilian Kolbe. I decided to create a portrait for our church. Combining the techniques of scroll sawing, portrait design, carved fretwork, and oil staining, this project was completed. It was dedicated and blessed and is now hanging in our church. Dick

  7. Cut a stack of 5 of these today.. customer seen the puzzle ( Harvey Bylers Pattern from Scott @ woodcraftbyscott.com ) and asked if I could make this design but as a ornament instead of a puzzle.. I resized it and cut it from 1/8" BBply..

    Good Enough ?

I finally finished this piece for my Son in Law as a gift. Tony helped with the frame. Now I'm having doubts, I see so many flaws. An honest opinion please,, would you be happy to receive this ? Edited to add that this pattern was created by @grampa and found in the library.

  9. Thanks, @jerry1939 for the Santa Ornament pattern. My wife chose this pattern for about 12 co-workers for whom I cut a new ornament every year. God Bless! Spirithorse

  10. Recognize these bespectacled eyes yet? I'll post the finished pic when I'm done. *** Finished***Most people got it right. Glad he was recognizable from his eyes and nose. I did the pattern, sort of. I've found if you take a good picture to a pencil drawing generator site it gets it pretty close. I play with it a little in Paint 3D and then decide some of what to cut as I go. I like how it worked out on this one anyway. The pattern I used wouldn't really be good enough to share but feel free to make a copy of my cutting and use it as a pattern if you'd like.

  11. Something a little different. Made this for a friend of mine who is a Harley nut. He displays it in his front yard with a spot light at Christmas time. Made from 3/4" exterior plywood and a sabre saw. Hand painted with exterior acrylic paint.

  12. This is my solution! The Dremel drill press as is, because of it is only 3" from the bit to the post, is imparactical to use for drilling blade holes in almost any fretwork larger than 6" wide. However, I had the idea in my head I could do something to make it work and Home Depot near me had the Dremel Drill Press/Tool Station in stock for $45. I took a chance (knowing I could return it if I could not make it work) and bought it this morning. After I got it home and did some investigating how I could make it work the light bulb lit up in my brain and this was the result. There is a shelf above my workbench that was just the correct height to allow me to mount the base upside down. I slid the Drill press body on the post opposite of what is normal. The press can be rotated around the post allowing it to be swung out of the way if necessary. I use a piece of 1/4" ply as a drill backer and set the stop so the bit will not punch into the workbench top. Very easy to locate the bit ove the point where the hole is needed. From the bit to the wall is about 11" so as positioned it can accomodate panels up to about 22" wide. I have two Dremel Rotary Tools so this one will be a dedicated drill for drilling blade holes, although the tool holder body can be rotated up to 90 degrees and used for other operations. I don't think I will be braking as many drill bits with this setup. I located it near the rear corner of the workbench so it should not interfere tooooooo much with other workbench usage. As the say, where there is a will there is a way. And when space is at a premium, you have to think outside the box and make evey square inch count.

  13. You wouldn't want my piping set up.. as it's a temporary set up going on 4 years now. I mainly wanted it for the planer and the bandsaw but intended to hook it up to many other machines.. I bought a tubing kit from HF which came with 2 10ft flex hoses some fittings, and plastic blast gates.. Good deal if you can get a 20% coupon to boot makes it a great place to buy.. Anyway, I just have the flex hose going to my planer and one clamped to my bandsaw.. use the planer more so I leave it hooked up on that and when I need to run the bandsaw I just swap the hose on the collector to the bandsaw, LOL One day I'll set up a more permanent system... Maybe, LOL

    Power Tools!!!

I think the top of the list would be dust collection, but perhaps you just didn't mention that. Just as I'm sure there are other tools that you have but didn't mention. Band saws and pretty handy and I love my compact router. I find myself going to that before picking up the big router. You didn't mention a lath. I think a router lift is a pretty big investment unless you use it quite a bit, but that said there are lots of videos of people building there own lifts. I don't have one because my router table gets collapsed and hung on the wall when not in use. I need the floor space. And I haven't made mortise and tenon joints since I purchased my DowelMax. And while were on the subject of joinery, do you have a pocket screw system? Another item you didn't mention, that you may have, is a good work bench. On the finishing side, while I haven't used it a lot, when I've used it my HLVP sprayer has been great. But maybe on this forum you'd maybe think about an air brush? Finally, don't for get good lighting. I replaced my florescent bulbs with LED's... really helps my old eyes.

    Power Tools!!!

I have a Ridgid occillating spindle sander that I use a lot. Also a Harbor Freight 4 x 36 belt sander. I have 2 ROS sanders, 2 Dremel's, and a 14" Delta band saw. I would not want to have to lose any of those tools. I would have to say that the bandsaw is one of my favorite and used tools. I very seldom ever use my Dewalt miter saw. It's way to big and heavy and sits under my bench. I have a Delta planer but have not used it much so it could go. I'd like to have a small handheld rechargeable trim router. I think that would come in handy if it was easy to use. You've got a great scroll saw. I have 2 Ex's and would not want to lose either one. Have fun, buying tools is always a great way to spend the day.

  22. After my craft show, I received numerous orders that I just finished. Now I can start other projects that I have to do for Christmas, also I have to get my kitchen ready for new cupboards and counters in the new year. We will have been without kitchen counters and cupboards for approximately 8 months. Our old kitchen sold 2 days after we posted it and all the cabinets maker are way behind on their orders. I thought retirement was supposed to be relax and enjoy, I think I work more now than when I had a job (IT manager) LOL PS these critters with mask from Sue Mey were my best sellers I cut more than 100 of them

    "NUTHATCHES" ON KAURI WOOD

This piece was scrolled on a special wood, Kauri from New Zealand that was certified after carbon dating to be over 50,000 years old. These huge trees, similar to giant sequoias in California, were found underground in a farm area. These huge logs are excavated, collected, and air dried for over a year before they are milled into lumber for use, especially for large furniture pieces. The huge diameter of the logs provides great slabs for very big conference tables and other commercial projects. When finish is applied, tiny golden or bronze flecks appear, called a chatoyant grain,.

OK...the boat sold already and I have a little scratch to put into the shop. I like my King scroll saw, I like my DeWalt sliding miter saw, I have a decent benchtop drill press, I have a router table but a top adjustable plate might be nice. I'm...OK with my Kobalt job site table saw, but an upgrade could be in the mix. Just not a $1500 - $4000 one...unless I hit the Powerball. That said...what would be the 3 or 4 pieces of equipment that would be the biggest benefit/versatility you would add to your shop...in order of importance.

Yes that's it - I bought it so long ago forgot the HP sorry. Loudness is a relevant perspective - after 40 years of rock and roll, my ears are probably a bit more worn than most. However, when it is on (when ever I use any saw) I do have to turn the radio up so for me it's not terribly loud. I have a Wen 3410 3 speed, and if you have one of those the HF is 3 times louder. I have mine stuck in a corner which I think baffles it slightly

    Age Old Question-Wood?

The closet place for me is about an hour away for any type of decent wood. If I want scrolling wood that isn't run of the mill like Zebra wood, I use Ocooch Hard woods as they are the closets to the east coast. Prices are not that bad and it is quality wood.

The idea is to pull it behind me 5th wheel and head back to the bayou of Louisiana and other places. That's some cruiser you got there. You could do The Great Circle Route on that.

  44. Thank you Marg.. Where I live you have to plan on leaving quite early because of the tractors.. really only during planting and harvesting is the worst time.. only a couple weeks usually.. But I know what you mean.. Gotta thank the farmers though as without them I'd have to grow my own food. I put in a big garden one year.. most everything grew including a lot of weeds.. Only thing that didn't come up was the whole row of beef roast.. They was expensive to plant and never came up.. I was really disappointed to only get potato's, carrots, and onions for my pot roast.. the meat is the whole point of the pot roast.. instead I had to turn vegetarian for a few month just to eat everything before it went bad,

    Old Kerosene

I used a kerosene heater for on year in the old cottage I was renting at the time. I also used one while in the service over in Englend. Cant stand the smell and the risk of CO poisoning is too great.

  46. I have a combination belt and disk sander. the belt is vertical and has a small table in front of the belt. The table can be adjusted fro 90 degrees to 45 degrees. With the table tiped down to 45 degrees I simply lay the panel on the table and move it side to side while gently sanding the edge to a sharp pinted edge. Kinda like sharpening a chisel on a grinder. Here is a couple of pics...sorry about the mess.

  50. I could imagine this tool being very efficient, fast and smooth for exterior outside cuts in scrollsaw and intarsia work. But aside from the cost I don't have the floor space to add this machine. But it would be great if their #5 blades could be fitted into a normal 14" bandsaw. But these small blades probably would not fit into a regular bandsaw and in addition may wander or track too much. The Pegus bandsaw has special guide bearings in addition. I just watched a video on making a bandsaw box on this and it looks great. I have not made a bandsaw box yet but I would imagine this pegas bandsaw would be a little better suited for this than a regular bandsaw with a 1/4" blade https://www.bearwood.com/pegas-scroll-band-saw-and-blades.html
