  1. This piece was done for my granddaughter's room after the decor in her bedroom was changed following a family trip to that famous place in Orlando. It is a layered format with each layer finished before assembly. The finished castle protrudes about 3 1/2 inches from the painted background. Yes, this is a deviation from my usual style.

    Boxes

I am taking a pyrography class and have been making these boxes (with permission of the guy that makes the high-end version of the boxes and is my pyrography-teacher [Copper Pig Woodworking])on my scroll saw. Walnut, sapwood, embellished with pyrography.

I thought I would try something different. I cut this and it looked like it needed color. So I decided to try cutting colored paper and gluing it to the back out the top layer. Then glue it to the backer and coat with spray polyurethane. I think it turned out pretty well. I thought I would share

  4. I finally got to use my Pegas saw. I used a pattern from Bagetta and cut it in 1/2" cherry. I used a Pegas #1 blade. It will be a gift for my neighbor who was kind enough to get me some ice for my knee shortly after it was replaced.

  5. Recognize these bespectacled eyes yet? I'll post the finished pic when I'm done. *** Finished***Most people got it right. Glad he was recognizable from his eyes and nose. I did the pattern, sort of. I've found if you take a good picture to a pencil drawing generator site it gets it pretty close. I play with it a little in Paint 3D and then decide some of what to cut as I go. I like how it worked out on this one anyway. The pattern I used wouldn't really be good enough to share but feel free to make a copy of my cutting and use it as a pattern if you'd like.

    A Wolfs head.

My latest project. A wolfs head. My best work so far. I have been making puzzles and firewood. Firewood is my learning curve, not Worth keeping. I now have a good understanding of blades and techniques. Also made the frame.

    Another Fret Box

Found another pattern I wanted to try out. Problem was that there was a top and front/back side pattern but no sides. I did some finagling on the computer and shrunk the front pattern to match the side dimension. Its 1/4" oak with shellac and lacquer finish. Box is 7 x 6" and 3" high.

  10. Made these this morning......Larger one is 5ft T......smaller one is 3ft T.......both I used rough cut lumber that i created from standard 1x6 boards.....white washed.....lg one has colonial red & hunter green letters.....sm one just colonial red letters..... The meaning of Noel......A term signifying the holiday season, Noël comes to us from the Latin verb nasci, meaning “to be born.” In the book of Ecclesiastes, the birth of Jesus is called natalis. A variation of this word, nael, made its way into Old French as a reference to the Christmas season and later into Middle English as nowel.

  11. Something a little different. Made this for a friend of mine who is a Harley nut. He displays it in his front yard with a spot light at Christmas time. Made from 3/4" exterior plywood and a sabre saw. Hand painted with exterior acrylic paint.

    ST. MAX PORTRAIT

In this day of consolidations, our church was joined by another in our area and we selected a new patron, St. Maximilian Kolbe. I decided to create a portrait for our church. Combining the techniques of scroll sawing, portrait design, carved fretwork, and oil staining, this project was completed. It was dedicated and blessed and is now hanging in our church. Dick

    Good Enough ?

I finally finished this piece for my Son in Law as a gift. Tony helped with the frame. Now I'm having doubts, I see so many flaws. An honest opinion please,, would you be happy to receive this ? Edited to add that this pattern was created by @grampa and found in the library.

  15. I found a pattern a while back and decided to make another lamp. The hummingbird pattern came from Pinterest and the frame is made from 1/4" oak. I rip cut oak strips and I cut the 45 degree chamfers on the router. LED bulb inside with a roller line switch. Finish is shellac with gloss lacquer.

    Hi ya

Hi ya, after lurking in the background for a while and a couple of failed sign up attempts, I've finally managed to get on the site, I'm from Derbyshire UK, my wife brought me a scroll saw last Christmas and I got hooked, never made anything that didn't need a big hammer before and I'm like a small school boy shouting look what I made Mam, with every piece I make, I hope to learn from you all, and refine my abilities to using a small tack hammer by doing so

  25. These grey wolves are carved after scrolling and color stained with oil paints. The eyes are formed with ground gemstones mixed with acrylic gel. The two wolves in the lower corners are inlaid oak.

  27. Here is a couple more Christmas gifts I did in my shop. I meant to post them but thought I had forgotten to even taken a photo of them, until I ran across these in my emails to myself. The Native American with the eagle and the fox I made this for a Native American friend of ours. The 35 Ford is one a few that I have made for myself because it is a favorite car of mine. Something about this car that I have always admired, I never owned one though. Dick heppnerguy

    DW788 on sale at Amazon

Don't know how long this will last, so grab it if you see it at a good price. I've been seeing wild fluctuations in the price, probably as inventory updates. If you're not seeing it at $379, wait a bit and refresh.

I have broken blades and the arm flew up. There is nothing to break as there is not very much force. Also I did not have to change springs on either the 14" or 18". Don't know about the larger saws.

Thank you Frank. I originally I thought about paint but quickly realized that wasn’t a good idea since I can’t paint a wall in the house without getting paint on everything in the room. Paper was safer for me.

    Hello Everyone

Hi Dan, Welcome to SSV! like you, I started with a cheap old hand me down scroll saw. In a year, this site has taught me so much and pushed my comfort zone to a point where I am confident in a lot of scrolling. No just with a scroll saw either, I have learned with a jig saw for the bigger projects. You have a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips now! Hope to you here frequently and a lot.

    Cell Phone Stand

That's a nice phone stand, I need to make me one.. Nice phone too glad it is helpful for you.. I still have kids living at home, so I buy the cheapest phones I can find and use the Straightalk service.. Currently using a iphone 5S... everyone says man that phone still works and is usable.. Yeah I do most my pictures and videos with it.. LOL Get anything newer and it'd probably run my scroll saw for me.. Like you say... technology advancement and what these new phones can do is amazing..
