Christmas Card 2020
barb.j.enders and 5 others reacted to Scrappile for a topic
My wife and I do not send out many Christmas Cards and the only ones we do are some relatives that we don't get to see. A couple years ago. I decided to make something Christmasy for the locals that we usually have Christmas Dinner with. Well I guess no Christmas dinner this year, but I still made a little something as our Christmas card to them. They will get one of these this year... It is a Steve Good pattern. It's about 8" tall. Come apart for easy storage or so it won't take up much room in their garbage...6 points -

Okay, okay, I'm a sucker for gears. Especially gears that do something. I'm a big fan of steampunk/dieselpunk but really dislike how some folks just glue random gears all over things and call it steampunk. They need to be FUNCTIONAL!!! Or at least appear functional. This pattern came in one of Steve Good's daily newsletters the other day, and I had to bump it to the top of my to-be-cut pile. Note: read the instructions several times before drilling pilot holes. Silly me missed the part where the front spinny-piece was to be stack cut. That's a LOT of pilot holes to re-drill, even if the original holes made it easier. Yep, this one was fun to cut. Gears and frame are 1/2" whiteboard, chunks left over from another project. 1/4" ply for the front piece. Stains are Minwax, "Honey" and "Natural" for the dark and the light (respectively), and some teal rattlecan spray for the backer, left over from another project for my wife. Gives it a pop of color.4 points -

Which Jet did you order? I have a Jet Vortex with the pleated filter I ran 4" PVC ducts. I have the unit in a different part of the basement than the majority of my shop to reduce the noise impact upstairs. The end of the furthest run is ~30 ft. and that has a reducer to 2" for my Router table and I still have plenty of airflow. The critical fine dust generators like my pneumatic drum sander (intarsia) all have 4" drops. I use a handheld remote. I did not glue any of the joints because I am not sure if my layout is permanent as it is now. If need be I use the metallic AC duct tape not the other crap that always leaves a residue. My ceilings are low so the gates are easy to reach. The pdf file is a rough layout of my current setup. My table saw, drill press, Supermax drum sander and a small metal lathe are in the same room as my DC they are not in the drawing. basement workshop-Model r2.pdf3 points

AFRICAN GIRAFFE PORTRAIT
amazingkevin and one other reacted to DickMira for a topic
This finished portrait was 19" x 13" completed on a beautiful piece of nicely figured elm. Note that the two sides of the face and neck were treated in different ways. The spots on the left side of the giraffe's face were finished using standard fretwork techniques with a satin black backer board and the spots on the right side were carved, textured, and darkened with burnt umber staining. These choices were made simply for their artistic variation. There are nine sub-species of giraffes and each has a unique coat pattern with variations in the color of the spots among the different species.2 points -
Well to each his own... I have had an Excalibur, great saw and the Pegas may be a little better, because of the clamps.... I have a Seyco now, with Pegas clamps, and I have a Hegner.... I would not give up my Hegner... I love... It just feels so comfortable to me... There are those that don't feel the same.. that is why I say to each his own... I spend most my time on my Hegner.... I did when I had the Ex also... The Hegner fits me like a comfortable shoe...2 points

Dust Collection Question
OzarkSawdust and one other reacted to OCtoolguy for a topic
Dave, from what I have heard and/or read, you want to leave the feed/suction line as large as it is at the vac and neck it down as close to the pick up point as possible and try to keep the piping as large as you can. You want air flow volume so necking down too much destroys the suction. 6" down to 4" should work fine. But taking it down smaller might be detrimental to flow volume.2 points -
In this day of consolidations, our church was joined by another in our area and we selected a new patron, St. Maximilian Kolbe. I decided to create a portrait for our church. Combining the techniques of scroll sawing, portrait design, carved fretwork, and oil staining, this project was completed. It was dedicated and blessed and is now hanging in our church. Dick1 point

I saw a guy that used a tarp over a tent. He had it secured to the tent. The winds kicked up and took the tarp and tent down. Just be careful how you secure things.1 point -

Rick, I can do it, but I can't explain it.. I just fumble around until it happens... If you go to this video in the How To articles it explains it starting around 10minutes 20 seconds into the video. Before you do this you have to change your picture to a bit map....what ever that is. Select "Path" and the Bit Map option is under that. But this may get you into the right direction. I have not succeeded on a PDF film, I have had to change PDFs to a png or jpeg..1 point

Dust Collection Question
OzarkSawdust reacted to new2woodwrk for a topic
My piping is a disaster! I keep meaning to redo it, but I just don't get the time anymore. IMO - run the 6" out the port as far as you can. I run a sewer piper out of my HF 2hp unit along the ceiling. When it reaches the first drop, I drop to 2" with a gate. I need to run another hose line soon as I added a few tool carts since my first run. I'll probably swap out the sewer duct for PVC pipe and go that route for the whole run Can't wait to see what you do!1 point -
Dust Collection Question
OzarkSawdust reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
You wouldn't want my piping set up.. as it's a temporary set up going on 4 years now. I mainly wanted it for the planer and the bandsaw but intended to hook it up to many other machines.. I bought a tubing kit from HF which came with 2 10ft flex hoses some fittings, and plastic blast gates.. Good deal if you can get a 20% coupon to boot makes it a great place to buy.. Anyway, I just have the flex hose going to my planer and one clamped to my bandsaw.. use the planer more so I leave it hooked up on that and when I need to run the bandsaw I just swap the hose on the collector to the bandsaw, LOL One day I'll set up a more permanent system... Maybe, LOL1 point
