    Napkin Holders.

I made a couple of napkin holders for my daughters. The teapot pattern is by Sue Mey and the wood is Blackheart Sassafras and the Honeycomb Bee is by Sheila Landry and the wood is pine. Oh and there is a small plaque to go with it. Marg

    Yet to be framed

I had a gorgeous pattern of a Robin done for me by @Helder Botas for which I am incredibly grateful. Fresh off the saw. Yet to have a finish applied and framed. It's a gift from my daughter to her Mother in Law. I've just sent her this picture, keep your fingers crossed that she likes it.

Another papercutting lightbox design I found on Etsy. Five layers, the top layer with all the frilly edging, was the worst part to cut. I have an LED light strip behind it, and used thin strips of 1/2" ply to separate the layers. The rest is 1/4 bbp. Stained Minwax Natural. Frame is some extra 1/2" ply, trimmed down to size. I left the top and bottom longer, I like the overlapped look and the wife is happy as well. The LED strip fades between colors, these are teal/purple/red, but the camera on my phone doesn't really show them well. The pics were taken before I put the LED strips fully in place, they're still wrapped around the spool and leaning up against the back. The light is much more even now.

  4. The framework for this project is made of black walnut. The size is 41" x 16" and features wolf footprints that are filled with a mixture of blue/green gemstone powder embedded in clear acrylic gel. At first glance, it might appear that the wolf plaques are made from vertical slices of wood from a log. However, slices cut like that would be very unstable especially with all the fret holes that were required to be cut with these scrollsaw patterns. The animal plaques were made from 9" diameter circles cut from a curly maple board that was 1 1/2" thick. The edges were carved to simulate a raw bark edge. The wolves eyes were inlaid similar to the paw prints. The faces were stained with a dry brush technique utilizing a mixture of oil paints in polyurethane in multiple light coats. Everything is finished with Wipe-on-Poly.

    Compliment Or Insult?

i dont think they meant it as an insult, lots of people cant tell the difference between laser cut or scroll saw. i think they see the detail and just assume it was done with a laser because they have never seen a person cut stuff out on a scroll saw. lots of people now dont know what hand made is anymore. remember most of this younger crowd does not even know what shop class or home economics. doug

    Steve Good gnomes

My wife loves these little gnomes, so when Steve Good's newsletter came out with a pair, well....meet "Jack" (redhead) and "Frost" (graybeard). 1/4 bbply, Pegas #1mg blade, total of about 2 hours' cutting time, if that. Stains used are (all Minwax) red, blue, natural, weathered gray, honey, and gunstock (orange beard/'stache). If I make another set at any time, I'll probably just attach an eye-bolt to the top of the hat so they hang better, but overall, everybody's happy.

    CATAN

We are a Catan family and everyone owns the game. My son asked me to cut the board pieces on wood. So I used 1/8 Baltic birch plywood and photocopied the pieces and glued them on. Then my son son jokingly requested a box to put the pieces in. So my husband and I thought that it would be a good challenge for us. The box is made from 3/4”Wormy Maple with stained 1/4” Baltic birch top and bottom. The containers inside the box are 3/4” Western Cedar. The walls I designed on paper in a basket weave. The box measures 18 1/4” X 12 1/4” and 3 3/4” tall. With all the board pieces inside it weighs 11.6 lbs. We used a hole saw bit for the holes in the box and the rest was scrolled. We used Amber Shellac for the finish, which is why the wormy maple has an amber tint to it.

@RabidAlienKirk, just posted a beautiful project cut from a "Paper Cutting" pattern. If you are interested in finding these type of patterns to scroll, try searching for "scherenschnitte" in Google Images. You will get a lot more hits and variety then "Paper cutting". https://www.google.com.au/search?q=scherenschnitte&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj2ieLFl8btAhUiwjgGHT8pCYwQ_AUoAXoECAUQAw&biw=1920&bih=919

  14. Put my new dust collector together and put in a 220 plug. I have been in search of 6" sewer pipe and fittings to run my piping. I had no idea how hard the piping would be to find. I was wanting to run the 6" along the ceiling and drop down to my machines with a reducing Y to 4". Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

  15. I did a few of Bobby Riggs 2020 ornaments the other day. A friend in south TX wanted to know if I could put their name in it. So I got ahold of Bobby and told him what I wanted, he came up with a spot I could insert a name! After I got it into Inkscape I managed to get the name in it, and out to the shop I went. About 2 hrs. and 47 holes later I dipped it in Watco Natural. And thanks to Don in Brooklin for helping me with a problem in Inkscape!

  21. I have a laser engraver and have been kicking around the idea of using it to 'attach' patterns to my materials. Just lightly burn the image on and take it to the saw and cut. Maybe a bit stronger of a burn to leave a small valley to help the blade follow. Has anyone tried this? Might save on tape and such; I do hate the spray glue. Down side so far would be cost but it can be used for other projects so not sure thats a minus. Thoughts?

    Laser engraver for pattern

The issue i see is you have a permanent line on your project. Unless you can cut 100% accurately on the line, you will have burn marks on your finished piece. That’s fine if you paint the project though.

  23. This an Alex Fox design. I had a printer snafu when I printed, I guess converting A4 to US letter and everything shrunk down a tiny bit but a few adjustments and it came out well. Backer is Cherry veneer ply, baltic birch for the light layers and cherry hardwood for the ornament backers. Finished it up with Danish Oil. I stack cut the pattern so I have three done. This was a challenging cut at times but quite enjoyable. One of the three is heading to my granddaughters to start the countdown.

  25. It would work.. Though my laser only does approx. a 8 x 10? area so I wouldn't be able to do a vary large project.. and the hassle of set up time for the laser etc. would take more time than printing a paper on a full sheet shipping label that you can just peel and stick to your project.. If I go to the trouble to set up the laser... it's going to make the whole project for me, LOL

    BIRDS OF PREY

This project represents some of America's finest avian wildlife. It was cut and carved from a large piece, 21" x 17", of chestnut. Minimal staining was used.

    Duke the Alsation

Just finished a couple of things for a friend, they have a gorgeous German shepard called Duke so I took a photo of it and made a key holder and a doggie dream catcher for them, it's the first time av had to glue bits in separately, I cut the head out then glued it back in to give it a 1mm outline

  30. Cut this one for my wife this past week. We celebrated our 17th anniversary on Sunday. 1/8" bbply, Minwax Honey/Natural stains. Took about 6-8 hours total, not counting the cold/rainy day that kept the stain from drying quickly. Note for the next time I do a Steve Good tab-n-slot box design: cut ON the line, not edged up to the line. Had to do a bit of filing on the slots, they fit tightly on the dry-run but there was a bit of swell after applying the stain.

  36. No drawings just a thought when I change out bathroom exhaust fans. I did see a couple of designs in shopnotes magazine. I will use one of those with modifications. I know it's bad being an old industrial arts teacher but so much of the things I make are on the fly. If it's something that works out I will draw it up when I sub for the cad teacher at the Vocational School. Which is about 4 or 5 times a year.

  39. Agreed - sounds like pushing too hard or the blade is not squared correctly. I run into this once in awhile when mounting a new blade and I have to re-orient the blade - it's a real PITA I would also go slowly - not sure what speed you're cutting with, but when I started I cut on #3. I'm now comfortable at 6.5 and 7 Hope that helps somewhat
    1 point
  40. My guess is you're pushing to hard on the blade which is making it not cut straight up / down.. If the saw was not square you should be able to push the center out on one of the sides ( ie if it doesn't push out the bottom try flipping it over and push it out the top it should push or even fall out but if you are bowing the blade by pushing too hard then it possibly just not going to come out either side).
    1 point
  41. The reason you can’t remove the interior waste is your cut is angled rather than straight up and down. Check that the blade is at a perfect 90° to the table. If it is, you are applying lateral pressure on the blade when making your turns. You have to let the blade do the cutting. If you go off the line, pull back a little instead of trying to push the blade back to the line.

There really isn’t anything you can do except include in the listing: Handcrafted using a scroll saw. I have that on most of my listings. There is a a button that lets you report the review. I’ve never used it so I don’t know how far you can take it.

My workshop is an 8X10 shed with a contractors table saw, 5' long work bench, a sanding station, a router table, my scroll saw in the middle and a bunch of hand and portable power tools. All walls are covered with shelves and hanging tools. My home is a small Florida 2 bedroom house with lots of artwork on the walls already, although I have already added a number of pieces I've made for my lady. So, I literally have no walls (to hang anything on that is).
