I am so proud of this one, you have no idea. I made it for my daughter and her partner. A few years ago we all went to the US and we went to Vegas, best holiday ever. Anyway we had our Family Christmas on Sunday and they loved it. I made it so long ago I can't remember what the wood was but I think it was Rosewood and pine for the box. Our Pattermakers! I have had a dozen or more patterns made for me in the short 2 or 3 years that I have been coming to the Village and have seen several hundred or maybe even thousands more made for other Scrollers. I want to thank everyone that has made me a pattern and everyone else that took time out of their day to make patterns for others. Very much appreciated. By the way, I still have a few patterns that have been made for me that I haven't gotten around to cutting out yet... too many ideas, not enough time! Thanks, Barry9 points

Quick Late Christmas Gift

Steve Good just posted this project a few days ago and I figured what the heck, I'll make them for some family members back west. Although they are done as of tonight, I won't be able to get them to the post office until maybe Thursday morning so they'll be late. I did use up some scrap though that wouldn't have seen the light of day for awhile. This beautiful mountain inhabitant was cut with a scroll saw using Pegas Spiral Blades #5 and then power carved from a piece of Sapele that was 19" x 15" x1". It was then stained with MinWax Color Wash in Weathered Wood and some light touches of burnt umber oils and blue/green oils for the eyes.. A final finish of Clear Matte Polycrylic was then applied.5 points

1939 Graham-Paige Model 97 The Graham Brothers had started the Graham Paige Auto Company in 1927 after manufacturing and selling kits to modify Ford Model T’s. Even though they began shortly before the depression, the company was successful because of the car’s quality and their “Blue Streak” 8-cylinder engine and the introduction of a crankshaft driven super charger. Their innovative cars ran in many prestigious races including several French Gran-Prix’s and the won the Concours D'Elegance in Paris. By the late 30’s their original design had become somewhat dated and they hired a new design team to accentuate the current Art-Deco style of the era. The 1938 model was named the “Spirit of Motion” and the forward rake of the front grill and fenders gave the impression of forward movement even when standing still. Similar to the Ocean Liner ads of the period showing the upward view of the prow of the ship cutting through the waves. It became better known as the “Shark Nose” Model 97. In 1940, production ceased. During WWII the plant was involved in war production and eventually the company was purchased by Kaiser Auto and eventually the Nash/ AMC corp.4 points

My lady's name is Robin, but she loves Hummingbirds...now ain't that a contradiction. I guess that is why she calls herself "Bird Brain". Steve Good included the "initialhummer.pdf" in a recent e-mail so you can guess I just had to make the "R" for Robin. I modified it litttle to make it into a framed piece rather than a Hanging ornament. Lots of holes - 12 to be exact - cut mostly with Pegas #1 mgt and #2/0 spiral. Perimeter cut done with #3 mgt. She hasn't seen it yet so it gets wrapped and put under the tree for Christmas morning, Cut is 5/32" Maple solid core ply approx 9" x 8" with a Walnut Solid Core Ply backer darkened with Minwax Walnut stain. Added a 12' x 10" mat with a third pice of BB ply Panel finished with multiple coats of spray gloss Lacquer. The custom frame is Poplar with a routed decorative inside edge stained with Minwax Eexpresso and finished with Wipe On Poly.4 points

Care taking for a 93 year old amputee .. and .. a dimentia'ed 90 year old wife of his (wife's parents) .. man .. that is FULL TIME !!! I didn't realize it. I even took my scroll saw over there when we moved in back in February .. Cut out a manger scene .. and .. that was all I had time for. But .. got this one done this week for my Grand daughter for Christmas. It's cut out of an old SOLID MAPLE HEADBOARD .. with .. that BURL WALNUT I get for a base. Used a Pegas 2/0 MGT and a Flying Dutchman 2/0 - then - finished it off with a #1 FD .. Thanks the the CLOCK Kevin! (@kmmcrafts) and both you and TDP(@TDpainter) for your advise on the pattern I was drawing for it. I think it came out alright. And .. there's the pattern if anyone wants it. It was a FUN cut.4 points

Annunciation of Christ's Birth
amazingkevin and 2 others reacted to Kris Martinson for a topic
Something different that I made most recently at the request of my lead pastor, who wanted a modern-art piece depicting the Annunciation of the birth of our Lord. Too large to cut on a scroll saw, so I used a jigsaw to cut the entire picture. Then I backlit it with an LED light strip. It measures 4' x 3'. It will be used as a display at our church's Christmas Eve Walk-through Event.3 points -

Christmas Decoration

With covid I finished most of my home projects so I had a little time on my hands and done scrap 1 x 3 pine. So the inner nerd took over and this is what I came up with. I made a block from the pine measuring 8 x 13 and 2¼ thick. Printed off the letters and went to my scroll saw. I might have been able to cut it on my band saw, but I have a ¾" blade on it and didn't want to change, besides, the inside of the "O" would have been a challenge. Some craft paint and glue....done! In the background you can see the clamp, I had just glued it when I took the picture. The combo square is for size reference. Chris3 points -

Spoke with our mailman the other day and he said they are assigning him to a new route next year. He has been with us a few years and wanted to give him something in appreciation for going the extra mile with our deliveries. Purchased this pattern a few years ago from Sue Mey and just add his name. 1/8" on 1/4" backer and just shellac finish.3 points -

Cookbook Stand
stoney and one other reacted to cowboyup3371 for a topic
If you saw my other post, you know I wanted to give my congratulations for the person behind the Whitney Woodworking Farm Scene as that was a fantastic pattern and definitely very challenging to cut. As promised, here is the finished cookbook stand where that pattern is used. I used Curly Cherry with Walnut for the screw hole plugs and handmade knobs with General Finishes oil-based Gloss Arm-R-Seal. I designed the tilt feature based on some others I found but slightly modified since I could only connect them via the sides because of the pattern. This way she can either leave it on counter as a display when she's not cooking or tilt it back to work from. This was designed by Steve Good. Over the years, I've utilized more of Steve's patterns than those of any other person. I woud like to thank Steve, yet again, for his tremendous contributions to our hobby. Now back to the bowl/basket. Here is a photo of the bowl as I as gluing it together: Here it is after I have applied the first two (out of four) cots of (food safe) polymerized Tung Oil: Here is is as I presented it (at a safe social distance) to our next door neighbours Jan and Jill: The bowls is made, entirely, from 13mm thick Baltic Birch plywood.2 points -

These are all my family's Christmas gift this year The eagle Is for my dad a true red white blue collar American The rose is for my mom for how beautiful and sweet she is The bass jumping out of the water is for my brother and has a cool story behind it the first time I took him bass fishing he caught a 7 1/2 lb bass and fell in love with fishing he always said he wish he could have had a picture of it as it jumped from behind the log well I gave it to him took me about 6 years to come up with this idea though. Always fun trying to capture life's moments in the form of wood. All three are made from stain grade shelving 3/4" thick and backed with pant lauan plywood. And all three have ben torched sanded and staind minwax guns took for the eagle, minwax honey for the rose and unicorn spit stan gel for the slats for backing and unicorn spit stain gels and minwax golden oak on the bass and all sealed with clear glaze hope yall enjoy2 points -

Finally finished. My daughter preferred the 'brown' backer for this piece. Grateful thanks to @Helder Botas for his incredible generosity and skill, it's much appreciated Sir and I hope I did it justice. 3mm B/B, piece of laminate flooring for the backer, Niqua #3 reverse blade, Oak frame made myself.1 point -

My saw is on one of those collapsible workmate bench things I got from sears years ago. Perfect height to just use a regular folding chair. I dont need a magnifier. Tried using one but it seemed distorted and just too much of a learning curve for my taste. For the light i have a cheapo walmart floor lamp with a flexible neck. Same with the air, cheapo fish pump and the end of a bic pen taped to the regular air nozzle. That way I have a constant stream of air, not just when I am sawing.1 point

the last part of june 2020 my Delta Scroll saw started to vibrate in a fuew minutes it was shakeing. I called delta and they gave me an address where to take it ( 57 miles from my home was the closest) Itook it on July 2 2020 I called the drepair center 4 ddtimes and they were waiting for prts I called Delta, They were waiting on parts and I might as well go buy a new saw. I called them a total of 3 times. on 12- 21 the repair place called that they just got the last of the parts and I could come up on the 22 and get it, That is 5 month and 17 days for repair. It wasn't the repair shop it was DELTA . I did budy a new saw and it wasn't a DELTA So if you are in the market for a new saw I will not recomend DELTA. IKE1 point

Just being nosy.
amazingkevin reacted to ben2008 for a topic
I have a 28 year old RBI and a 8 year old Excalibur. I keep the RBI set up and tuned with a #5 Olson PGT blade that I use mostly for Intarsia. I use the Excalibur for most everythinh else. If I wasn't in my 80s I would probably buy a new Pegas saw and sell the Excalibur. I would never sell my RBI. I get bored easily and switch between saws and types of scrollsawing I happen to be working on.. I sometimes switch off and on 3 or 4 different projects at a time. For instance i just finished 3 different projects for Christmas presents and switched between saws frequently. Took one off, put another one on etc. Am I weird?1 point -

Every year we make and send out an ornament card for a select group of family and friends. Thirty cards this year, we have been doing this now for 15 years. The highest number was 40. The ornaments are stack cut 1.5mm ply and mounted in photo cards with removable adhesive. My wife writes the sentiment. This one is from 2006. The second ornament is a laser engraving. My dental hygienist knew that I made ornaments and asked if I could do an image of her parents dog that recently died. I was going to try and design a cutting but I just did not have the time and I have never really done a fretwork design. Intarsia yes fretwork no. I found this pencil drawing that looks just like their dog, then engraved it with my little engraver on birch plywood. This was also my first attempt at something like this. I am very pleased and in return I accepted a box of exceptional homemade cookies. I look forward to hearing from her after Christmas, I suspect that there will be tears.1 point

Hi all, This idea came from several concepts I saw all over the net. I am terrible at straight or smooth cuts. This is going to my grandaughter who takes music lessons. I hope it gets her past traditional notes. Multi notes are a better than black and white notes. There is many problems with this piece. Terrible matching thickness of lines. etc.1 point

I did finish it up after this photo was taken, added some black tacks around the edge of the scrolled piece to help hold it in place and to make it look less like it was just glued on. I got the tacks from Lowes, but they can be found at any hardware store. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-2-oz-5-8-in-Black-Cut-Tack/30360421 point -
Steve Good Nativity Box Pattern
TexasDIY reacted to Marshall Dillon for a topic
Made my first - seven piece Nativity box some 6 months ago and entered it in the Northeast Arkansas Fair in September and it won the big Blue - and shortly afterwards received a order for 8 more . It's a Steve Good Pattern , remember when making this that the cuts need to be as precise as possible - if not will cause you a lot more sanding . It's still take some tweeting on the top lid to make it shut perfect , this project is made from 1/8" BB Plywood and the top and bottom pieces are 1/4" Walnut material and several light coats of high gloss spray lacquer with sanding in between coats . Any comments welcomed ....1 point -
Larry, the ports are on the left side of the machine. I guess I forgot to say it's a Delta P-20.1 point
