This week's pattern: wolf
Alexander Fadeev and 7 others reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Another H.Botas pattern. Some of the cuts are razor thin, the branches, for instance, I would run my blade up one side on the first pass, turn, then coming down the other side there were a lot of places where I was just shaving the kerf a little bit wider. Used Pegas #3MG blades, 3/4" whiteboard from Lowes.8 points -

This came to me today on Instructables and I took one look at it and saw not a weight-lifting bench but a scroll saw bench and seat. With a bit of alteration I can see that it would be great. Add a seat back and it might be very comfortable. A bit of alteration to the long board part so that it would be adjustable for saw tilt too. https://www.instructables.com/DIY-Adjustable-Wooden-Weightlifting-Bench/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email2 points

Thanks for replying to my question. I'm going to take some of my BB ply and experiment with different ways to finish my projects. From reading other posts I know there are several different things I can try. If I come up with something that pops I'll let you know....Thanx2 points

A Hegner three legged stand can sit conveniently in a corner. I love mine! That is the only reason I sold my Hawk; to get floor space.2 points
-
Hi Stoney. You said in another post you liked low maintenance things. So do I. That's why I love my Hegners. I've done a lot of mechanical work in my lifetime and loved it but not any longer at age 82. If I were younger I would add a Pegas to my shop. I like the color and I would do larger fret work being it is top feeder. I would also be capable of maintaining it but no longer. I could really care less what saw people use as long as it does what they want and are happy. But what the heck do I know? Good conversation.2 points

My version of 'Parrot and Peony'
Alexander Fadeev reacted to Frank Pellow for a topic
FrankEV recently created this and told us about it in the thread: Parrot and Peony - Bragging Rights - Scroll Saw Village Here is a photo of my attempt: And here it is hanging with other birds on a wall in our (very small) downstairs Loo: This is cut from 3mm thick Baltic Birch plywood and the backer board is the same material. I painted the backer using many different acrylic paints. I found it hard to locate the correct colours exactly behind the holes that I had cut. The painting was much more difficult than the sawing and I won't be doing anything like it any time soon. The frame is made from 1/4-sawn White Oak and I gave that a distressed look by first painting the frame then sanding off some of the paint. Everything was finished using clear gloss "rattle-can" stuff.1 point -
I pulled the trigger on all 3 barrels!
Dave Monk reacted to OzarkSawdust for a topic
I squirreled away some money from the sale of my bass boat for shop equipment. My three major items are a Delta 36-725T2 table saw (on order) a DeWalt DW734 planer (in the shop) and a Wahuda 8" jointer (ordered yesterday) ! Then I'll make some rolling tables, one assembly about 4' x 4' same height as the Delta saw's table for an outfeed and assembly table. Then one each for planer and jointer also sized to match the assembly for extended outfeed. I may even make one for my benchtop drill press and get it off the main workbench. When I rearrange the shop they will roll up to an outside wall for storage, leaving the center of the shop open. Well...at least that's the plan...LOL.1 point -
Shop Tour
new2woodwrk reacted to Dave Monk for a topic
Got my dust collection plumbing done except for my scroll saws. I will tackle that down the road. Thanks to many of you for the help and ideas. I sure am pleased how it all works. My shop isn't normally this clean and tidy but now and then I bring a scoop shovel in and clean it out. 482625067_ShopTour.mp41 point -
As stated above, mine was the tubular one. It was truly a piece of crap. I did try to use it for something else I had in mind but after cutting it up, my idea didn't pan out. So, it became landfill.1 point

Steve Good's 'Vaccinated ' pendant
WayneMahler reacted to Frank Pellow for a topic
I want to draw attention to today's free pattern from Steve Good: It can be found on Steve's Scrollsaw Workshop web site. Once Margaret and I are vaccinated, I intend to make these for us. I also plan to offer to make them free for all my friends and relations. The vaccine rollout is slow here in Canada (because, much to our shame, we need to rely on imports) but, at least, the rollout appears to be well controlled, fair, and orderly. I'm guessing that we will get vaccinated in April or May.1 point -
I pulled the trigger on all 3 barrels!
new2woodwrk reacted to OzarkSawdust for a topic
Me too!! Still trying to envision the best way to set it up. Trying to keep it as flexible as possible because it's not a "wood shop only" and need to do other things there. The table saw and the jointer are both due in tomorrow. It'll probably be end of the week or next week before I'm able to work in the shop. I'm in the middle of a walk in closet remodel that's a challenge and a half. I think the high school wood shop built this house...unsupervised!1 point -

Thank you! I found the pattern on Etsy from AlexFoxUA : https://www.etsy.com/listing/609845260/046-pegas-scroll-saw-pattern-pdf-jpg-dxf?transaction_id=2223010540 My daughter modified the pattern to make the legs less furry. And she added a little detail to the tail.1 point -

My version of 'Parrot and Peony'
amazingkevin reacted to Foxfold for a topic
I know. I watched in awe while you were making it and just loved the 'updates'. Regardless of whose 'design' I still believe it should be where everyone can see this awesome piece and marvel at your skill.1 point -
Kevin, when I bought my first Dewalt, it was so old that the stand was still made out of tubular steel. It was like the what you like. Smaller at the front than at the back. Anyway, I hated it, too tall. I like to sit DOWN and not way up on a tall stool. Anyway, I found the wood design online that was what I wanted but it had 3 legs with the single leg at the back end of the saw and the double leg right where you had to straddle them. I reversed the design and put the single leg at the front so I could straddle it. I liked it that way. I put the saw on a rectangular piece of 3/4" plywood and hinged it at the front so that it could be lifted at the rear for whatever angle of tilt I might find comfortable. I sold the saw and let the stand go with it. The stands that I have no for my two EX's are 4 footed with the two rear wheels on 7" wheels so that it can be lifted at the end where I sit and rolled around. I incorporated two pieced of 1 1/2" PVC mounted to the sides and put a piece of 1" PVC inside of the 1 1/2" so that it would slide in and out. That became my wheelbarrow handle system and is out of the way when I'm not needle them. I drilled a couple of 1/4" holes in two places in the inner slide and a single hole in the outer piece and stick a 1/4" screw in the holes to keep the inner piece of PVC from sliding in or out when not needed. They are held to the sides of the stand with 1 1/2" conduit clamps. Now, that I have this new design floating around in my head, something new may be instore. Stay tuned.1 point

You make one and willing to ship it, I might actually buy it, LOL The excalibur stand is about the poorest designed stand I've ever sat at.. Not to be offensive to those that like them.. but there is the cross braces etc on the front and the stand has a wide stance.. Nowhere for your legs / feet to go.. I know you hated the Hawk stand because of the height but at least it's not so wide that you cannot sort of straddle the stand.. The best stand I ever had so far was the DeWalt stand and the old style Delta triangle shaped stands from the 90's.. Excalibur and like saws seemed to build a nice saw but they really missed it with their stands.. JMO Someone needs to get the word out to Pegas.. maybe they'll look into designing a better stand.. they seemed to be onto improving the saws and saw tables etc.. But they still have that bulky stand. I am intrigued by the Hegner stands.. Never sat at one.. But I can't wait to find that perfect deal on a Hegner to try one out.. I almost just ordered a new one around last Christmas.. I've heard the stands design is less room in the shop etc.. I can see that both the Hawk and Excalibur stands do take up a fair amount of space.. But one can also build shelves into the stands.. Something I've been wanting to do to my Hawk stands.. my oldest hawk 220 came with a custom shelve built into the stand.. Very useful1 point

I think you are seeing what I am envisioning. The weight bench was built to sit on the small seat and lean back against the long backrest. I'm seeing that backrest as a saw table that can be adjusted for tilt once it's altered to the correct height and angle. The little seat could be made larger for my fat butt and a backrest could be fashioned. Or an office chair seat could be incorporated into the design. So many ideas, so little time.1 point

Go for it Ray, I’ll support you!1 point

I see it Ray.. I'm not sure if I see it the same way you do though Let me try a shot at this.. In the diagram after you scroll down slightly shows numbered pieces of the weight / scroll saw bench. I think you are saying to mount the saw on the #5 and you would sit on #6 but add a backrest to #6 and modify #5's height but also have it so it could be adjustable tilt.. Kinda cool idea really.. I like my factory stands best but then again.. I've never used a custom made stand.. probably cause I can't build anything and have it come out right.. besides cars and things like that.. I literally suck and building things with wood for some reason..1 point

Back when I was young, pictures cost alot of money in a magazine. I can make a sketch if you need. Also the "fakes news" was not invented yet. But I guess this guy Clair, had a lot of vibration. So to stabilize his piece from motor vibration he built a table just above the the scroll saw. Pretty good idea. He gets to feel the cuts being made.1 point
-
Please tell me you can see what I am seeing. In my minds eye, I can see it very clearly.1 point
-
Come on. Envision sitting on the small seat. The backrest becomes a table top for the saw. It would have to have the geometry altered a bit but I can see sitting on the small seat and being able to look right down on the saw top. I'm not saying that you could use it as it is now. Just another design that would work. I might just have to build one so you could "see" it.1 point

Just reread your post and it appears that it was BB ply. However, I need advice on how to spice up my BB ply cuttings as far as color goes. I'm tired of looking at white all the time.1 point

Band saw question
Wizard of Oz reacted to MrsN for a topic
@Angelo I have tips on breaking bandsaw blades! First is pay attention to the width of the blade and the tightness of the curves you are trying to cut. This shows a guide for how tight your curves can be. Pinching the blade in a tight curve creates a lot of heat build-up in the blade which makes it weak and more likely to break. The second tip that I give my students is to let the blade do the cutting, don't force feed wood into the machine.1 point -
Band saw question
new2woodwrk reacted to Heli_av8tor for a topic
I put a riser block on my old Delta clone and put the “cool block” guides. I could never get it to cut straight until I watched and followed Alex Snodgrass (of Carter Products) setup video. Also don’t overlook the benefits of a quality blade. I like Timberwolf but haven’t tried many others. resawing is now a breeze.1 point
