  4. Story time! When I first started scroll sawing, I started a blog called Scroll Saw Goodies where I posted resources and tutorials. I also started making a few videos on YouTube under the same name and sold a few patterns. Eventually, this lead me to creating Scroll Saw Village. I've always kept the two separate. But, as you can imagine, maintaining two websites is a lot of work. So I've been working on a new section on SSV where I'm going to port over some of these older projects. I created a few new areas: Project Workshop - These are project videos. These tutorials take you step-by-step as I build a scroll sawn project. I'm going to try to include written instructions as well. I'll be adding a variety of projects over time, too. Everybody has free access to this. It's also be posted on YouTube and probably FaceBook. Project Workshop Patterns - I used to sell patterns that I used on my blog. But it's tough to have the patterns in two places. So, instead of selling them individually, I'm going to give free access to SSV Patrons as a thank you for supporting SSV. Design Workshop - This area is is for design tutorials. Usually, these will be tutorials on how I designed the pattern used in the Project Workshop. But I'll also have other design tutorials, too. This is for folks who are interested in the design process. Access to these tutorials are for SSV Silver & Gold Patrons. Again, thank you for supporting SSV! I've been messing with these sections for about 6 weeks now, and I think I have it ready for prime time. This is an experiment that I'm hoping folks will enjoy. Anyway, here is the first project. I'll be porting over the older ones soon. Enjoy!

    Facebook

That's my issue with the FB groups.. you have a couple people posting the same project amongst all the groups and if you're also a member of all those same groups your news feed is plastered with the same thing from several different times. I have one that I'll frequent and that's about it. There is a couple CNC and one Laser Group with a bunch of friendly folks, and as always there is a couple with folks that make you scared to ask a question because they'll wine about you not searching first.. the search functions of most sites bring up irrelevant results more times than not and have to sort through it for hours to get the info you're looking for. Maybe I just need educated on how to search, LOL I do wish there was a active "good" CNC forum like we have here with the village for scroll work. Travis has done and still does a wonderful job with this site.. and most of the regulars get along.

  8. Yes, many of us has been there.. including myself when we first started online selling etc.. This is a big reason why I talk a lot about selling online.. I get a lot of PM's from folks asking selling / shipping questions and always happy to help share my bloopers ( experiences ) to maybe help another from learning the hard way. Many give up when they loose money or aren't making money like that think they should.. Giving up is when you loose, When you get back up and brush off is when you're closer to winning. Loosing money from shipping happens all the time.. it lets me know that it's time to adjust my prices.. not give up selling to other countries and loose business and customers just because one time you lost.. Loses happen all the time in business and in many ways.. When you solely doing it for the money those loses hurt more.. I do it for the money but also for my pleasure as well as making the customer happy in anyway I can within reason.. many times that means loosing money.. but that customer may come back and give a profitable order.. or a family / friend of the customer.. Happy customers talk and angry customers also talk.. no matter the case I strive to be talked about from the happy customer

I found it. I actually have very little interest in the Face groups. I see the same thing on every group I visit. There really is no site quite like the Village. Much more comradery here than Facebook. Facebook seems much more impersonal. Travis, you do a great job here so many thanks.

  11. Most things ship within 2-3 weeks for most of the world. I'd loose about 20% of my business if I was to drop international shipping. That's the difference between eating steaks or rice and beans for the year. Click n ship is the only way to go with shipping in my opinion.. and it fills out the customs form for you somewhat. Though I do usually change that to say one or two words to describe it.. (ie farm tractor ornament.. I just put ornament, as they don't care if it's a tractor or not LOL ). It is more work to keep up with the rules etc.. But that is a part of business and the shipping cost. High priced shipping? don't like it? they don't have to buy it.. That's for them to decide not me. Not all international customers know about the VAT tax.. so don't assume that.. I have a blurb about that in my policies and also the automated message to them when placing the order. Many times a customer will message after 3 weeks saying they didn't get the package.. I Don't bother asking the P/O here to look into it because they only enter the tracking number that you give to the same location as you would online.. They don't know that you can look up the main mail system at the destination country on their website enter the tracking and there it is.. setting in customs waiting for VAT tax to be paid.. some other countries are not very good at contacting the customer to let them know it's sitting there waiting for tax payment, and searching on our mail system tracking doesn't show anything once it has processed through our customs sorting facility. I get this a lot from the UK. so I look on "Royal Mail" website for tracking and it'll tell you about as good of tracking as domestic mail does here.. and will say something about VAT tax and or "tried to deliver but nobody answered" and if it's not in customs waiting for tax payment.. many times it was tried to delivered but nobody home etc and it is setting at their local mailing office waiting to be picked up or reschedule delivery.. That all said, I really have not had any more issues than I would with domestic mail.. so I'll continue with international mailing.. as I do like a steak every now and then.

I use them I had one that I left open and it got real mushy by the next time I wanted to use it. I had tight bond it it and I know that vinager will soften tightbond. I got a shot glass and llput a jigger of vinager in it and in a couple of days it was just like new. I have never had any problems since. IKE

I have been using these for my glue for a long time. They are cheap and I have never had one clog unless I forgot to put the cap back on and even then it was easy to clear.

    Facebook

I gotta step up my FB and Instagram game, for sure. SSV posts on FB every once in awhile, but I need to do it more. I know it gets a lot of good attention when I do and folks really enjoy what is posted. It's not a community like FB groups. It's more of a page where we post updates and share cool projects from SSV members. We want the chatter to be here.

  31. As some of you may know I offer a brass hardware kit for one of the clocks I built for the magazine. I have shipped parts to Australia and the UK and a few other countries. Yes there is extra work and cost involved, I warn customers upfront about the additional postage and they already know about customs at their end. If they agree I send the parts. I don't care about the extra time it takes me, I just want people to build the clock. I just did a shipment to Canada and for the first time used "Click and ship" It made it a lot easier.

  34. I stopped shipping international from the USA because of the shipping delays and time I need to spend tracking packages. In the before covid time, it could take a month or more to get delivered. There are other issues. You don't know in advance what is going to happen in customs in a particular country. There is extra work, customs forms, etc. You also need to know the shipping requirements for the destination country. All of this adds to shipping cost, even more so if you pay someone to do it.

  49. I cut on the black line, and have the light coming in from the side, so the blade casts a shadow of the blade away from the line. Don't have a problem telling when the blade is wandering away from the line, which happens quite a bit with my cutting.

  50. In the air. any time you blow dust no matter what device you are using, unless you have a vac hooked up then it gets blown in the air. It is of course better if it blows away from you but wearing a dust mask is still a good idea.
