    WPAP

WPAP is an abbreviation and stands for “Wedha’s Pop Art Portrait “. I made this French Bulldog WPAP style. Cut on 1/4” bb ply 215 pieces 86 different colours. I created the different levels by using a glue gun and glueing it where I wanted it. I attached a few spacers so that the head would sit off the backer. The backer is 1/8” bb ply covered front and back with cloth material. The 19 X 17” frame is made from wooden laths glued together.

  2. I drew the dog. I draw stuff, well, I draw a big mess then go to work with an eraser. BUT . I could NOT get the heart right. So - with the help of the community - we got the heart just right. The heart on this is cut from a 2" thick piece of clear redwood. Old stuff. Big stuff. The dog is cut out of 3/4" cedar - when I got done planing and stuff, it ended up at 3/4". Then .. it has a backer of 1/8" BB Ply painted black, and, attached (glued) to the back of the heart is another 1/8" BB Ply piece. This measures almost 16" long and 11 inches wide. All cut with mostly a #5 FD, the itty bitty places were cut with my trusty 2/0 FD. It's MINWAX Spar Urethane brushed on for the finish. The little letters spelling out BRODY were done in that BURL WALNUT I get locally. I love that stuff. With the left overs from the piece I cut the letters from .. I made that Rose for my wife's birthday. So - that worked great. I think that's it. Except .. a big thanks to the community for helping me with that DANGED heart !!!

    packaging tape

Having sold tape for a living in the past, I can say that 3M is good tape, with consistent quality control, and the most expensive option available. The problem with adherence to a carton these days could be that the carton has high recycled content. Shorter fiber strands are much tougher for tape to adhere to, requiring in many cases a better tack in the adhesive. The three types of adhesive in descending order of popularity and ascending order of cost are hot melt, acrylic, and natural rubber. If you're looking to use packaging tape, hot melt will be the type with an amber tint and a tackier release, while acrylic is clear with a freer release. Natural rubber is pretty much limited to duct tape. The perception is since acrylic releases so easily that it isn't as sticky as hot melt, but that isn't true. Acrylic has a faster and stronger tack than hot melt, so a release agent is applied to the back of the carrier to enable using the tape without having to fight it to get it off of the roll. In a freezer environment, acrylic is the adhesive used as nothing else will work on cases of frozen or soon to be frozen product. Look around and see if you can find Shurtape. It's a good quality tape that will cost less than 3M...if that kind of thing matters to you. This is likely more about tape than anyone really wanted to know.

  5. After 7 months + with no kitchen cabinets, we finally got most of it installed last Friday, few doors missing and change of size in one cabinet which all should be install tomorrow. Granite installer was over yesterday for measurements and it should be install by the end of the month. My kitchen fabricator and installer is a one man shop, excellent workmanship and real nice guy, name of Company is “Harbers Millwork”. I asked Don in Brooklin if he could make a word art pattern of the company’s name. Don did an excellent job and here are some pictures to prove it. Also I included a few pics of the new kitchen.

    My reward

I had a real good craft show last fall and I decided to treat myself to a new tool. If I had the money all my tools would be “FESTOOL” This dust extractor is the best, I had to fight with my wife for the use of it during our kitchen reno. Might get a few more attachments but so far I am quite please.

  7. Finished The Rifleman Chuck Connors and Johnny Crawford as Lucas and Mark McCain. Loved this show growing up. Chuck Connors played Major League Baseball with the Cubs, played in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, and had a successful acting career. Don't you just hate people like that. 1/2" Red Oak with wormy Black Walnut backer.

  9. Hubby and I went to LL Johnson yesterday, it's a good hours drive but the weather was beautiful and perfect for a road trip. Hubby headed to the Machinery section and I bee lined it to the wood Section.......................Talk about a happy camper. $60.00 dollar later I had a nice little pile of lumber. Since I do mostly ornaments and refrig magnets I buy the 5-6inch width boards.

    First Try At Inlay

This is my first time trying inlay, the box pattern is from Steve Good, the woods are 1 1/4" Mahogany an old hand rail from a shoe factory I had given me, and 1/4" Oak from off cuts, I started scrolling last Christmas, so I'm still learning, the hardest part for me is trying not to rush the cuts

    MASH

I loved the MASH pattern by @Sam Custodio but it didn't have one of my favorite characters, Frank Burns, so I added him. I moved Charles Winchester to the upper left because I knew Frank would want to be close to Hot Lips. Love how it turned out. Thanks for a great pattern Sam!!! 11" X 13" X 1/2" Red Oak.

  14. Anyone else been seeing all the complaints on FB about how they ordered a new saw back in early / mid Dec. and still have not received the saw.. they received a email recently saying it'll be another 2-3 weeks.. I gather from reading that this is like the second or third time they had set a ship date only to get a email saying it'll be pushed back another couple weeks.. A lot of folks not happy with Bearwoods either because there is no mention that the saw is back ordered and I guess you can go order on their site still thinking you'll get a saw in a week or so, LOL.. Gosh... sounds kinda like Bushton MFG now.. I've heard Denny mention that some things were back ordered but I didn't know it was for saws..

  17. Given the circumstances that Dan described, it's somewhat of a shock to me that we haven't seen a lot more of this kind of thing. I know that there have been selective shortages on all sorts of items, from toilet paper to building material to ammunition, but given the amount of goods that are imported (or made here with imported components), it's a wonder that we can get anything. I work in production and material planning for a small manufacturing company, here in Western PA. We source a lot of components from overseas. It's been nothing short of miraculous that we haven't experienced more serious supply chain problems over the past year. We have had some delays, but for the most part, we've been able to stay on schedule. Credit given to our Purchasing folks who have done a great job finding the parts we need.

Get away from tape to cover your wood. I quit using tape 15 years ago. The best product you can use is " GLAD Press N Seal " from your grocery store. It is like GLAD Saran Wrap. About 10" wide and it sticks to the wood. Peals off easy when you remove it. It is clear and you can see your wood thru it. Pull off what you need and press it on. I use a roller to take out any bubbles. Leaves no residue.

  19. I recently saw a aerial image of a port with this huge fleet of ships anchored off shore. What a mess. I need instant gratification when buying a new tool or car. This would kill me. I think all vendors should be upfront about delivery problems.

  20. As you know, the saws are made in Taiwan. They are on a slow boat from Asia to New Jersey. Because of the worldwide pandemic, everything is backed up. Here in California, the ports are overflowing with cargo ships that can’t get unloaded because of health restrictions and lack of personnel. I suspect it is the same on the east coast. It’s unfortunate that Bearwoods didn’t mention they were back ordered. I ordered one from Denny the beginning of January knowing they were back ordered, just to get in the que. I was told it would ship at the end of January. Now it’s been moved to the end of February or The beginning of March. I don’t blame Denny, I know it’s not his fault. I would complain about Bearwoods though because they weren’t upfront about being back ordered.

She was accepted on a Sports Scholarship. “Lacrosse” not bad for a Canadian living in Ontario. This is their “Red Flash” school team logo. It’s Approx. 11” tip to tip. 4 layers of 1/8” and 2 layers of 1/4” Baltic Birch.

He has so many wonderful piece of scrolling at his house that I thought he must sleep at his saw too. You obviously did a great job on this one too, Charlie Dick heppnerguy

  29. Story time! When I first started scroll sawing, I started a blog called Scroll Saw Goodies where I posted resources and tutorials. I also started making a few videos on YouTube under the same name and sold a few patterns. Eventually, this lead me to creating Scroll Saw Village. I've always kept the two separate. But, as you can imagine, maintaining two websites is a lot of work. So I've been working on a new section on SSV where I'm going to port over some of these older projects. I created a few new areas: Project Workshop - These are project videos. These tutorials take you step-by-step as I build a scroll sawn project. I'm going to try to include written instructions as well. I'll be adding a variety of projects over time, too. Everybody has free access to this. It's also be posted on YouTube and probably FaceBook. Project Workshop Patterns - I used to sell patterns that I used on my blog. But it's tough to have the patterns in two places. So, instead of selling them individually, I'm going to give free access to SSV Patrons as a thank you for supporting SSV. Design Workshop - This area is is for design tutorials. Usually, these will be tutorials on how I designed the pattern used in the Project Workshop. But I'll also have other design tutorials, too. This is for folks who are interested in the design process. Access to these tutorials are for SSV Silver & Gold Patrons. Again, thank you for supporting SSV! I've been messing with these sections for about 6 weeks now, and I think I have it ready for prime time. This is an experiment that I'm hoping folks will enjoy. Anyway, here is the first project. I'll be porting over the older ones soon. Enjoy!

  38. The Chiefs is one of the first things I did a little over a year ago. Looking forward to seeing the Chiefs win the Super Bowl this Sunday!! Although Jimmie Johnson is retired from full time NASCAR the Daytona 500 starts this year's season later this month. Jimmie was on the 2nd place team in the Rolex 24 last weekend and will run several Indy Car races this year.

  40. Never was much of a sportsy person....I can usually recognize the shape of the McGuffin used in whatever sport (volleyball, soccer ball, football, baseball, puck, etc), but that's about the extent of my knowledge. I played backyard versions of most, but it wasn't until I got introduced to running that I really became "athletic". I can put one foot in front of the other, I discovered. Generally an 8-minute-mile pace, but used to be able to hold that for hours. Wasn't in the competitive leagues (took home two trophys...in races where I was one of two people in my age group), but until my knees gave out, I loved running. Still miss it. Tried to pick it up again during the quarantine, but nope, knees are still adamant that it ain't gonna happen. Archery is another sport/hobby the family and I have picked up. GREAT upper-body workout, y'all! And cheaper than firearms....you can retrieve your arrows after a round (provided you can hit the target and don't lose them in the weeds). Cut these after the wife and daughter got really into the sport.

  42. I did the mice the same way I did the first one, the horse. It is called "double bevel inlay" (Or marquetry) It requires an inlay for each color is all. Six separate inlays. One against/over the other. Like this one with only three colors.

  47. I'm not at all interested in professional sports. So many participants are paid obscene amounts of money and are elevated in many people's minds to being much more important and influential than they should be. I feel so strongly about this that I go to the opposite extreme and don't even read about such sports. Having ranted about that, I did and, in a few cases, still do participate in many amateur sports and encourage those around me to do so. My grandson Ethan is a good baseball pitcher and I made this 'Stickman Baseball' thingy for him: Steve Good designed the pattern for this. Another good competitive activity is Chess and that is regarded as a sport by many folks. I also made this Steve Good designed chess set and "stick" chess players for Ethan:
